I have always liked Merle. His music is so sincere and truthful. I did not realize that he had been married 5 times. A very good musician. Thank you for the story 😢

Thanks Bob for this Classic Rock and Country F & T segment on MH. It was truly a sad story, Alzheimer’s does a number on folks. God Bless and God Keep 🙏 and prayers go out to everyone who have been are or will be affected by this horrible disease.

Merle had an interesting and sad life to begin with. The passing of his wife was another low point for him. Thanks, Bob.

I've known folks with Alzheimer's too. It's a scary disease. We just lost another celebrity to it, Steve Lawrence. Bravo to the families and caretakers of these people. May we find a cure very soon!
My grandmother had the Legend of Bonnie and Clyde 45. Glen Campbell played banjo. Today I Started Loving You Again was the B-side. It's a beautiful song. In one of Merle's books, he told of Buck Trent having an early tape of him and Bonnie singing it. How many songs got lost for lack of pen, paper, and someone to write them down?

All that matteres is that Merle knew who she was, and he loved her. Thankfully, my wife was still of sound mind the last time I visited with her. She had left me more than 25 years before. We never divorced. When we last spoke, I told her it was like we were two old soldiers who were once enemies on the battlefield, but now the years have brought us understanding and forgiveness, ... and peace. I told her I still loved her. And that was the last I saw her before she died. My 'Syl'.

    Interesting and moving story, Bob!
Dementia is a HORRIBLE thing. I would rather just be gone. 😇

in one of merle's 5 wedding ceremonies an ex-wife served as one of his new wife's bridesmaids! that was a truly great video! thank you. it was also very heart breaking. previously bonnie had been married to buck owens. there were times when buck's children and merle's children were living under the same roof. i was thinking that don gibson had a big hit with (today) i started loving you again, but just now could find more chart position for his version. merle wrote always wanting you for dolly parton. merle haggard is my all time favorite country artist. number 2 is a tie between waylon + buck owens + hank williams (the original) + dwight yoakam. 3 is CASH. i also like marty robbins, lefty frizzell and roger miller and about a thousand other country artists.

I agree, that would be a heart wrenching moment. I believe she always loved him. He said divorce made them realise they weren't meant to be married. No he wasn't meant to be married, he was a womanizer and he fell for Leona Williams. Bobby was smart enough to not be the third wheel but I believe she loved him enough to give him up hoping that he would be happy. She put her career second to his and supported him by just being his back up singer. She always let him shine. That's the true heart break, that she loved him and lost him but always loved him. Too bad she never wrote a song about that, although who know, maybe she actually wrote Always Loving you for him and let him take the credit for it because that's what she always did.
