    In this video we take a look at the LEICA 35mm Summilux 1.4 ASpherical FLE lens, a lens many consider to be one of the best lenses ever made. But before you buy it, let's talk about a few things to consider and why it's probably best to purchase it new vs used.

    Awesome review. BTW, the FLE works perfectly on M11 as well.

    Just under 2k for an m240 service? My m10 only cost around $600. And DAG serviced my 35mm summilux for $300

      Yeah, I did the servicing directly through Leica in New Jersey. I had reached out to DAG first in 2021 and was told that they couldn't help for my particular situation (Which was that the camera stopped recognizing all memory cards, and I needed a CLA). Just a CLA from Leica is probably around 600-700, but I really have no Idea since my bill just had one price for everything listed on it. But a circuit board needed to be replaced on my M240 which is what I'm assuming drove the price up the most.

      @@RentonVlogs yea with the digital cameras anything outside of CLA is expensive. My 35mm had the focus ring break internally. It had a lot of movement. And DAG fixed it for $300. But anything with a digital body has to go straight to Leica

    Thanks for the review ! That’s unfortunate what happened to your m240 but the servicing for lenses would greatly be less .

      I`ve been buying used Leica lenses for 25 plus years and have never had to have any serviced .

    Thank for your review, very nice pictures! I would still advocate for buying this used, especially if you can test it before. I REALLY doubt, that a CLA-Service is as expensive as you predicted. What was wrong with your M240? Sounds like that they hat to replace a core part of the camera to make it THAT expensive, sorry to hear that it was so costly.

      Cheers, I agree that if you can look at/test a used lens in person you can definitely mitigate the risk, and it may be worth buying used and saving some money. But I wouldn't buy an expensive used lens blind (maybe from B&H or a place with a solid warranty I would consider it but the idea still makes me really uncomfortable). Leica is known for charging a lot to fix cameras/lenses so 20-30% of the original price is pretty common. (but it doesn't mean it will absolutely be that much and if it's under warranty it should be free or close to free). And yes, I did need a fair amount done to the camera that went beyond a basic CLA. I would describe myself as a very heavy user; the camera went with me everywhere, everyday, for five years and then it stopped working. I think part of the reason servicing is so expensive is that there is only one place in the US that does the servicing, so they can definitely keep prices high if they want to. So here is the list of things that needed to be done on my LEICA M240 (total price $1895) 1) adjust/replace printed circuit 2) adjust range finder, check, adjust, clean 3) leather covering (There was nothing wrong with it other than minor signs of wear in one section) 4)Board-set, calibrated. I've heard a standard CLA is typically 750-800 for the M240 (so I was expecting to pay around 1000 not double). But to be fair to Leica it seems like there was a fair amount of work that needed to be done on my camera, especially considering #1

      @@RentonVlogs If it comes to the electronic parts, the money is running no matte what make you high-end gear is. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had any repairs on my M240 and M-P240 done. The Leica lenses are premium both in quality and price, but the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten. I've tried both Zeiss and Voigtländer lenses, but they can't beat Leica in performance.

    Nice review! Why did you trade it?

    • @RentonVlogs
      @RentonVlogs  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! At the time I traded it I knew I wanted to vlog and shoot music videos. I also wasn't using the lens much since my M240 needed to be serviced. I didn't have a video camera/lens or the money to purchase them, So I traded the lens for a Canon C500 mark1 (Pl mount) and some money towards a PL mount lens which allowed me to start this vlog. And this week I actually just purchased a new camera (Leica SL2s) so I'll be doing a video on the C500 Mark1 before selling it (Just for fun, it's a little outdated but outputs a great image)
