💥 WANT CANNONS? Watch our live performance for cannons, fireworks and tower bell: • 1812 OVERTURE, P. I. T...
The Year 1812 Solemn Overture, Op. 49, popularly known as the 1812 Overture, is a concert overture in E♭ major written in 1880 by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to commemorate the successful Russian defense against Napoleon's invading Grande Armée in 1812.
In 1974, the Boston Pops added cannons, church bells and fireworks to draw crowds to their Independence Day concert. It was so successful that the inclusion of the "1812 Overture" became a staple.
Flash Mob performed by Banda Simfònica d'Algemesí on September 3rd 2016 at Algemesí city (Spain), playing Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture"; after the success achieved with the Ravel's Bolero flashmob in 2013.

WHY NO CANNONS? Answer :
If you want to see and hear us playing 1812 with cannons, fireworks and towerbell, watch our live concert: czcams.com/video/QUpuAvQQrC0/video.html
We do not have permission from the authorities to get a cannon out for the flashmob. Cannon = weapon.
Think of it: a busy square full of people. A spontaneous flashmob. Suddenly there are explosions ... It's better not to scare people.
Societat Musical d'Algemesí have the trumpets and trombones as far away as possible good idea

No cannons, but still gave me chills. Beautiful!
Well done! It's a shame about the lack of cannons but you're absolutely right about the potential for panic.
It's 4am, I've spent the last 3 hours watching flash mob videos on CZcams... Time well-spent.
Only 2hrs for me.
Spent the last 11 years doing this
Yep, sounds about right
@@Anonymous-bh9om You good bud?
@@RainbowLuke honestly... no and I don't think it will ever get better
And this is precisely why music programs in school must never be eliminated.
please, for all the love of what is good and righteous in the world, bring back flash mobs. Just brilliant.
Young people who's parents paid for lessons! They must be most happy! Please keep music in schools! PRICELESS...
"I'll bring the cannon!"
"Um... No, that's okay... We'll just skip the cannon part..."
"You sure? It'll fit in my truck!"
"Yeah... Yeah, we're good without the cannon..."
"Aw, man! Nobody ever lets me play the cannon! How's a street musician suppose to survive?!"
Is the canon tuned ?
@Jay Barker imagine going to university to get a major and Bachelors degree in canonery
Would a coordinated sonic boom might do? 🙉

TheNeilBernardShow, I’ll bet if The Bruce Dickinson told them he had a fever for more canon...
I don't know why, but I was expecting a couple people dragging a cannon in.
dude yeah i was disapointed >:/ where is the cannon!
There is another post of the same group with cannons. Look it up. You won’t be disappointed.
That was my only disappointment with this
One Independence Day we put this on the sound system and shot our shotguns in place of the cannon. If you live out in the country, I highly recommend this approach to musical accompaniment.
Yes
Now that's music. No computers involved. Just natural sound. Bravo!
These flash mob performances are incredible. I get tears in my eyes when i watch them. I get so psyched! I wish this kind of thing happened everywhere and more often.
Yeah, but when they start dragging the 5 inch artiliary around the corner for the final part of the song it can be a little, shall we say ...... disconcerting.
A tiny drop of concentrated joy in a world gone insane.
Brass sneaking up over the roof about to blast their hearts out.
Blastin brass at the crowd if you catch my meaning
Ad it should be. Huzzah!
It's what we do best😁
When I was a young man, my brother was a musician in a high school band and orchestra. They played this overture in the new school gymnasium and used a shotgun fired into a garbage can for the cannon shots. And the blanks blew out the bottom of the can and put holes in the new basketball court. Great times!
Most of them - young people. It's a hope for the Future of this planet 🎉
Such a JOY to see musicians of ALL ages participate in the JOY!

I do miss the bang.
They couldn't bring the cannon.
Our symphony plays it every summer in June in the Concerts in the Garden series, and the cannons are choreographed fireworks
where is the middle two thirds of the piece? my favorite part is when the chord at 2:24 is resolved by a nice mellow brass section which builds into a great moment of tension. but we did not get to hear that. the ending is great but it sounded so out of place with only that short prelude preceding it.
This is what a Flash Mob should be. Awesome.
😭I ALWAYS cry when I hear this. It’s a mixture of the sadness of war, the battered men, mixed with patriotism. And then the sound of triumphant glory. And it’s my fantasy to see a great flash mob like this. Wonderful performance!!!
If you ever get the chance, Boston MA has a free live concert on the 4th of July in the center of the city. The Boston Pops 4th of July Spectacular. They do this song every year, the full 20+ minutes complete with bells, The Presidents Own trumpeters from the US Marine band AND the MA infantry plays their canons (just shells). Its amazing to watch the commander with his sheet music, commanding the soldiers, timing the canons perfectly to the beat set in the original score.. Its absolutely amazing and beautiful and a once in a lifetime experience.
@@lizgreer6888 wow! Thanks so much for the suggestion! I’ll put it on my bucket list. I’m in the Philadelphia area and years ag I saw this performed down In Delaware with the canons, but I’m ready to see it again. So glad this pandemic is winding down
You're not alone when you cry. I cry too. Every time
So think I.
@@tommasocianti9308 it’s a good cry though!
This is the one piece that turned me on to classical music when I was 13 some 67 years ago.
46 years ago, when I was a senior in HS, my school's 75 pc. concert band played the 1812 Overture in our Spring concert. I was first chair, first clarinet, with 25 clarinets under me. I never worked so hard on a piece of music in my life, but we nailed it. Hearing this again (albeit a nicely shortened version), brought this old man to tears. It is an infectious piece of music. I will have it played at my funeral.
+Charlie L thank you for your words. We wish you still enjoying music for a looong long time :D
@peter stimpson, thank you. I posted that response 2 years ago, and it still holds true today. I again watched this wonderful flash mob video of the 1812, and again had tears halfway thru til the end. Powerful thing, music.

Not just chills, flood of tears for me too! I'm sitting here sobbing with pleasure. Thank you.
This would have been well played in any "normal" concert venue, but to perform like this in a flashmob is truly amazing.
Maravilhosa gostaria de estar presente
Good musicians are good musicians wherever and whatever they are playing. All of the people participating in this are excellent musicians.
Let's get one thing straight. This is the 1812 Overture. Not the July 4th song.
Michael Voight beep, wrong. You’re thinking of the William Tell Overture.
...Not to mention that it was written about the Napoleonic war of 1812, not the American war of 1812.....
@Army Tanker new york Did who really say what? Which post are you referring to?
Some who like to criticize are often NOT capable of doing anything themzelf,
Morbus well they lost the war of 1812 anyway

Just found this... BRAVO !!!!
Noticed that, amazingly, the player of the tubular bells was able to keep her handbag over her shoulder the whole time. But still, where else is a girl going to carry her hammers. So glad this was on, loved every second.
As long as we have young people who appreciate the classics like the young people do, then the classics are here to stay for another generation for sure....Loved this rendition....Good show, mates!
Thank you very much!
There's still hope for the youth of today when we see things like this. Bravo.
The thing that most amazes me is the ability of the sound engineer to get it so well balanced!
Oh!! Thank you 😄 That was me
This put a smile on my face. THANK YOU!
Fantastic! First time heard of the 1812 Overture in a flash-mob. This version is well performed. The sudden appearance of the brass from the top is a nice surprise.
Well performed. Most enjoyable. Wish there were a dozen of canons and loads of fireworks.
Lovely! I enjoy it.

Not just ANY cannon will do: The composition calls for Bronze 12-pounder "Napoleon" cannons. When fired, they ring with a distinctive note; you can hear it Right Here on CZcams - look under Civil War cannon--particularly Canister Shot From CW Canon.

absolutely agree with u. i am thrilled when the brasses suddenly occur :)
Every year in Sydney the this is performed in Summer under the stars in an open area called the Domain. The Domain is next to St Marys Catholic Cathedral and so the Overture is performed with real church bells from St Marys, two cannon on stage and fire works
This is the first music I can remember hearing as a very very little girl- still a toddler, about 2 years old- I remember coming home from church on Sundays and my brother, who is 16 months older and I would beg Mom and Dad to put the record we called "Guns and Bells" on the big old console record player (it was 1968, after all) and turn it up all the way, so we could feel the music till the drums gave us butterflies in our bellies and the bells and horns brought me up onto my tippy toes... it is perhaps my most profound memory of all time, only surpassed by the moments I gave birth to my children. I still get goosebumps every time I hear the 1812 Overture, no matter who is performing, and this was a grand performance... I was wondering where the rest of the brass section was going to be, when I saw how crowded the plaza was becoming, so it was a delightful surprise to see them appear overhead! Thank you for bringing back those cherished memories of my early childhood, reviving my memories of what the grand classics do for my soul.

My favourite bit of this is the lady playing the Tubular Bells... she has her bag over her shoulder, real casual. like she was just walking by on her way somewhere and picked up the hammers and started playing
Wow, talk about music for the masses! The music is over 200 years old and still stirs the soul!
STUNNING INSPIRING WOW BEAUTIFUL MY EYES ARE LEAKING WATER MORE MORE MORE
Brought a tear to my eye :-)
Many decades ago I had the privilege of escorting my girlfriend to a high school concert at Palo Verde High School in Tucson, AZ, in the school auditorium in which the cannon fire was done with 12 gauge shotguns, firing blanks of course, and it was so very awesome. I don't guess anyone will ever do that again, given the paranoia rampant these days.
I would dearly love to be there for one of these events though. Classical music is my favorite and to be in the presence of such a great performance by young people is really heartening to me that real music isn't dying out.
That gal playing the chimes probably has better heart and circulatory health than anyone else in the orchestra barring probably the conductor.
¡Me encanta, me fascina, me vuelve loco...!!! Sigan, sigan , sigan. Por favor. ¡Gracias!
I know this performance was several years ago, but every time it pops up on my multiple video selection screen, I have to watch it. And it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Totally amazing! Thank you!!!!
flash mobs show just how INGRAINED into all humans a love of music is, countless people all stopped whatever they were doing entirely as the music began, and, all, for even a small moment, truly just appreciated the beauty of sound, with nothing else to taint it, the world needs to learn that despite all differences we have that will ALWAYS divide us, there are core ideas, passions and loves (like music) that are universal, and just like with music, an individual can be strong and moving, but when more come together and play their parts, the strength grows with it, and the whole becomes better off because of it
I enjoy the flash mob orchestras , I think it is great to keep Classical music in the fore front. Thank you
I absolutely love it. Thsnk you.

The brass at the top of the building? SOOO effective! As a brass player myself, I loved that set-up!
A. Katherine Suetterlin the power of the brass from above, its satisfying! That’s as good as it gets!
The most beautiful thing I've ever heard was the Fijian Army Band playing as a cruise ship left Suva and they turned the Tromies on the tinshed opposite and bounced the sound off it onto the ship. Breathingly awesome

This was probably the best flash mob of all times. It’s hard enough to get an ensemble or chorus together, but to field an entire orchestra playing one of the most demanding pieces from Tchaikovsky. Brilliant and well done.
"Brilliant and well done."
And very well planned... hardly a "flash mob" at all, more of an orchestrated performance, wouldn't you say ?

@@CraftAero All flash mobs are orchestrated performances. It's just a matter of how well the performers blend into the crowd. With instruments, that's nearly impossible.

Probably not a good idea in Europe these days. They're kinda touchy about gunfire/explosion noises these days.
It's so beautiful that it brings me to tears. I can't imagine being there in person. ❤️
Congratulations to all the musicians! The people deserve...
My senior year in high school we played the 1812 Overture for a football half-time show. Started out with the band in straight line on the goal line. We then proceed to march in tempo with music through various formations, until we ended up in concert formation center field, for the finally. Our canon was an oil drum with top removed and slanted at 45º angle and someone shooting a gun with blanks. Wish there had been someone in the stands with a movie camera, but none has surfaced (this a long time before digital phones).
1812 is a long time ago ...lol...

It was my good fortune to see and hear this wonderful music at Merryweather Pavilion in MD. It was outdoor but there was a roof. Towards the end, when the cannons began to fire, God Himself seemed to note his satisfaction by launching a thunder storm. Never seen anything like it.

I don't know. Maybe people are taking offense of the lack of a decently sized string section. 4 cellos and no violins, violas or contrabasses isn't exactly proportional to the hordes that is the wind and percussion sections.
