This song was the holy grail of every Nirvana fan. For a long time only a poor live audio recording existed. That version sounded similar, but had completely different lyrics. Then the rumors started that a proper studio recording exists, but we had to wait for eight years until it was finally released.
Hey man I see you are a fan from back in the day... I would love to show you my band. We are from london and we do that 90s vibe .. #mfilesband hope you like it ..
I feel like it actually fit the time it was released.
Strangely enough I know exactly remember putting the CD into my Discman right after I bought it at my local store..
The fact this song came out like six or seven years after Kurt died and was still relevant is a testament to how revolutionary Nirvana was. Talk about a band that completely changed the musical paradigm.
i didnt realise it was that long after. thats crazy
Ya, i remember talking about that at the time, how amazing it was that several years after Kurt was gone Nirvana still had the new number one Billboard song (a testament to how great they really were).
For real. I remember back then hearing that an unreleased nirvana song was coming out and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It made me so interested in what the next phase of their career would have been like if they stayed together
@@joeboo333 I’ve often wondered how much of Foo Fighters stuff would have ended up on Nirvana albums and whether or not Foo Fighters would have even been for than just a one off. I know Grohl had it in the works when Nirvana was still together but it may have been a one and done.
It was better than any BS that was on the radio trying to copy them.
Kurt was crying all his heart out. this is what this song are
“No thought was put into this
I always knew it would come to this”
RIP Kurt
suicide note wrapped up in a lyric
Dear Courtney…
Cobain wrote the song in 93, and they recorded this song before he passed. This wasn't put together after his death like a patchwork song or something. This was his composition like the others. Also this is the official video from Nirvana. It came out when they released the best of collection
Yeah, I was going to say I didn’t think this was something newer. I remember hearing this quite a long time ago. Wasn’t there another unreleased song that had “magic” in the title or lyrics? I seem to remember something like that.
Exactly. This was actually recorded for the "next" album which never happened because he passed. They did add certain things to it post mortem in studio, but this was a song he had already written and recorded before his death. It's so great too!~
I suspect there is some looping and other Pro Tools trickery going on here in some parts, but yes this was played by the band in the studio at the same time in 1994 a few months prior to Kurt's death.
I thought the engineer/mixer did about the best they could with the what was essentially a demo (I suspect they'd re-record this later in an album session).
I wish the drums were a little harder, of course. : )
My favorite band ever. I’m 48, I’ve heard every fuckin song dozens of times. So many favorites, this is at the top
Same here. I can never get over it. I still can’t stop thinking of Kurt
Real but I’m 13😂
Your words say I love his voice, your face says stop with the tooth picks underneath my finger nails
Raw, pure passion and super intense. Nobody can sing and perform like kurt.
Kurt died
@@MidwestFarmToys No shit. everyone knows that
@@OrbaDaBorba 🙂
When you hate your parents at birth, hate yourself, hate everyone, hate existence, you would be surprised what your lungs can muster
When I first heard they were releasing this song I was worried it would fall short of expectations, but it far exceeded them. I truly love the result and couldn't be happier to get one last hit from one of the most influential bands of my childhood. There were so many feelings of sadness and loss I was able to set aside for another three and a half minutes. Nirvana was the first band that really resonated with me as a kid picking up a Bleach cassette tape in a Seattle record shop. 30 years later, they still do.
so much emotion in it.....have tears in my eyes every time
The last song that Kurt ever made. It just makes me sad every time I watch it.
Actually Kurt's last song was do ra mi..This is the last Nirvana song however.
@@jameshall1075 Did not know that.
Its the saddest Song ever! A man at the end of his dream that a/his loving family is falling apart before his eyes! The only thing he really wanted to achieve in his life becomes a crumbling dream!
Definitely can feel where his headspace was at the time. We didn't deserve you, Kurt. You were gone too soon.
This song came out 8 years after Kurt passed away, 😢 it was a big hit.
I will never forget it. My local radio station played it over and over back to back
More royalties for Courtney.
Um no it didnt!!😂😂😂😂
This song is from Nirvana’s final recording session. So I hear this kind of finality to it, including some lyrics. I think it’s a good tune, proving the band was writing strong music ‘til the very end. But Kurt’s line “I have never failed to fail” is both clever and crushing, that he ever felt that way about himself.
3:18 when they’re goofing around… that was in the corridors of the Octagon theatre at my university in Sheffield. I went to uni in 2002 there, and sat exams, walk those same halls, knowing nirvana had been there, made it really cool for me!
If only we didn't lose Kurt. Rest in power, Cobain ❤
RIP Kurt 🙏🎙️🎸 your missed everyday
Nirvana was king in my youth...Best generation ever!!!.
This song does give you appreciation for Kurts's vocals, and gave us fans a great "lost song", but as many have mentioned watching and listening to Kurt live is essential.
R.I.P Kurt 🙏🏼🕯 i love Nivana 🤘🏻
The song was one of the last songs they recorded in the studio, it just wasnt released until years later. You as an artist should know that people recorded a lot of songs that dont make an album. It doesn't mean its not finished but some doesn't think that its good enough for a specific album. Kurt when he did unplugged didnt want to do his hits he did his b songs and they became hits just by that live performance
R.I.P 🙏 we miss you Kurt 🤘
My fav of all and the last song he recorded!..RIP LEGEND!!! The state of the world and its secrets and falses give the artists the fire for these expressions.
This was Kurt’s “swan song.”
this song is so intense, I love the changes between the soft parts and the heavy parts. it's a great melody and I love how powerful Kurt sounds.
This song ia so good. Unbelievable.
It is actually the official music video so its not fan made or anything in case you were wondering. Also the lyrics aren't from the video aren't "Pain" but rather "Hey". Its probably one of those things were Kurt was playing with the listener like in Smells Like Teen Spirit where the lyrics go from "Hello Hello Hello" to "hollow".
id say pain....listen to the song its about devoricing that KUNT love....pain for franics to go through devorice like he did
This song is just hauntingly beautiful😢. Just turned 41, was a huge Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Korn etc... fan in the early 90's, when I was in my teens. I feeel nostalgic😢.
This is epic 😎 ❤❤❤100
legendary song
Kurts lyrics are incredible
I highly recommend you listen to the first live performance of this in 1993 at the Aragon Ballroom. It is so much more lyrically, sonically and just far more powerful. Knowing it was being heard for the first and only time live makes it even more amazing...During the chorus he is just screaming "Hey" not "Pain" that was altered for the video long after his death. Hole absolutely disgraced this song and Kurt during their unplugged. This was the last song Nirvana ever recorded in a studio, the same one Dave would record the first Foo Fighters album. Haunting.
Everything KrisFrederick said.
Honestly, I can't believe I never thought of these lyrics in this way somehow because of how they were framed by Courtney. He was literally saying he was leaving. And telling her not to be afraid. He was literally leaving her. Not the Earth. The way he is saying you know you're right, sounds like Kurt's extreme sarcasm. Basically an FU. You know, you're right. @@mikethompson5212
"Altered" for the video...lmao
Yeah...Listen. He was set up to end himself by her. WTF are you even doing here troll? If you have no common sense?@@mikeblanchard7579
Cool reaction. I couldn't have hoped for anything different. Thanks for posting this.
Hes playing some intricate stuff. Don't discount his ability. He fooled you all for his image.
She's a great kid!
A great Romanian kid!
So happy you’re back to reacting to Nirvana 😊❤
love your face on this. I was maybe 20 when this came out lived in seattle area at the time. They are apart of the grunge movement. That emotion you are feeling is what it is.
“I’m so warm and calm inside, I no longer have to hide” thats heroin talk
Let’s talk about someone else, steaming soup against her mouth
@@Elliebear218 Nothing really bothers her, she just wants to love herself
@@NoticerofthingsI will move away from here
Love Nirvana, love grunge and love Bisscute reactions. ❤ thanks Biss.
knew that song but had tears in my eyes....the voice with all the pain...it reminds me of Chester...who is screaming out all his pain but no one hears it
Thank you for this! I really enjoyed it and it is much appreciated.
awesome review... thanks for reviewing my fav nirvana song 🌹
It's extremely sad that Kurt's murder was framed as suicide and no investigation was done at the time to prove otherwise.
Exactly. The shotgun was to large for it to be suicide. I think he was murdered but that Courtney Love had nothing to do with it. I think it was his best friend.
@@Johncornwell103 the shotgun being too large was a myth. let the man rest, god damn.
This song brings out some emotions I never knew I could feel
And I’m fairly certain this is the video that was released when the box set came out so it was supervised by Dave and Krist I think
My favorite of theirs! Still chokes me up when it plays.
Sorry that I'm late to this party, and you know how much of a Nirvana fan I am, Miss Biss.
The final single from this band is one of my all-time favorite songs. The raw emotion that comes from Kurt's vocals always gets me. And, to answer your question, it was Dave (drummer) and Kris (bassist) that put the music video together.
Great reaction as always. Keep up the great work.
Love this song. Thanks for reacting ❤
i m a french rock muscician and thank you for this react you 're describe very well the feelings that an artist puts in his song. I find you really gifted in your listening and in the feelings that you can feel.
you are strong and empathetic
I’m actually from the town where Nirvana was formed. If you turn on the radio there’s a good chance you’ll hear a song. We have a museum and a memorial for Kurt.
Hundreds of times to keep it real, I’ve heard. I still love the music. Daily
The Best song of Nirvana
I saw them live in ’91. Kurt was wearing his trademark cardigan and jeans. They were great live. A recording of my show is actually on CZcams but with no video! They did not destroy anything the night I went, but did the night before and had a lot of bad rental equipment that Dave G complained about between songs.
date of show?
@@benjamink7105 Oct 14, 1991
After the 'In Utero' album in 1993 and the subsequent 'MTV Unplugged' performance, Nirvana reportedly started talking about new music for the next album... Sadly, "You know you're right" was the only track rehearsed and recorded in 1994 before Kurt Cobain's death.
Dave Grohl had already started recording the first Foo Fighters album (which was supposed to be a side project)... The final Nirvana track was released in 2002 w/ the self-titled 'best of' album... followed by the boxed set of unreleased tracks - "With the lights out" in 2004.
The music video was made to promote the 'Nirvana' album in 2002, and the director said that he went through the Nirvana archives and had trouble finding footage of Kurt Cobain smiling on camera 😪
Alice in Chains went through a similar situation w/ singer Layne Staley in 1998... the band wanted to record new music for a boxed set and Layne came in to write and record, but was in bad shape. He completed lyrics and vocals for 2 songs - "Get born again" and 'Died'... and those were released in 1999. Those were Layne Staley's last recordings and very sad songs - Layne was aware that he would not make it and in 'Died', he lamented at the death of his longtime girlfriend Demri... Alice In Chains made a very visually disturbing and dark music video for 'Get born again'... old footage of Layne was used. Layne Staley was found dead in 2002 from an OD.
One of the oddest coincidences was Peter Steele of Type O Negative... He was hulking bassist/ vocalist of the doom metal band, and in 2007, he wrote and released the album 'Dead again'... The song 'Dead again', he went, "I can't believe I died last night..."
Peter Steele died in 2010 from apparent sepsis... 😪
This song was the last studio recorded song that was supposed to come out on the next nirvana album!
Beautiful precious Kurt.
Каждый раз мурашки по всему телу от этой песни. Жаль что Курт так рано ушёл 😢❤
You look like you're ready to cry during this listen. And you know, I'm right there with you... ❤
Nirvana changed my life!🤘
I love Nirvana also other bands great video girl from 🇺🇾 Uruguay best regards😊❤
The vocal fry in his voice and his tone are freakin amazing.
Excellent I like it great reaction beautiful Bisscute 🤘🔥🤘
You know you’re right was the last song they recorded in the studio on January 30, 1994 the last song they performed live was heart shaped box march 1, 1994 in Munich.
This song was recorded with the full band. It was the last song they ever completed. It appears on no albums, just the 2002 Greatest Hits compilation. Kurt was alive when the song was finished, they were going to release it on the next album but then Kurt started having health problems in Roma in 1994 and then it was a tailspin from there on out.
I remember listening to them for the first time when I was 10 years old, when they were at the peak of their popularity.
I found about them and they became my fav band introducing me to rock when I was 10, but it was around 2010 :(
The main thing is that there are a huge number of interesting groups. And in every new group, you find a new discovery. Inspired by the skill and imagination of the musicians.@@janvranjes4554
This has become one of my fav songs of nirvanas
Foi a última música lançada pelo Nirvana, e o Kurt escreveu sozinho e o clipe os outros ajudaram a fazer.
If you want to hear the absolute hardest and most savage song Nirvana ever did, listen to "Endless Nameless".
Noted, thanks ❤️
As they say. He left it all out there
That is the official video. It was recorded at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle January 30, 1994. Kurt had really wanted to get that song recorded and it was done over 3 days w Kurt doing guitar and vox on the last day after Krist and Dave had laid down the rhythm tracks. It was only played once live in Chicago in the winter of 1993 at Aragon Ballroom. It's one my my absolute favorite Nirvana songs as I prefer their more heavy experimental stuff which was usually released as singles or b-sides like Oh the Guilt and I Hate myself and I Want To Die. It is an amazing snapshot of a tortured and broken heart. Kurt was divorcing Courtney and had been having marriage issues for a good while. Also, i think he was going to leave the music industry and Nirvana so it really holds the entirety of the emotional spectrum with regards to how he felt. It's a brilliant song and unfortunately 2 months later he would be found dead of "an apparent shotgun blast to the head". - Kurt Loder of MTV stated on the afternoon of April 8th. I wish we'd gotten to see him evolve as a songwriter as just this one song shows his ability to morph in different directions and anesthetics. Miss you dude!
It’s the perfect antidote to the MTV niceness ( which I love the unplugged session ) but this is the swansong we deserved & the video encapsulated them that self destructible violence was always just bubbling under the surface. This was how we first met the band, not surrounded by flowers on a tv set and this is how I will always remember them best. I’m the same age as he would be now and I can’t believe that he’s been gone longer than he was here 😢
An amazing sad song! ♥
BTW - you should check out Bob Dylan sometime. Maybe start with Like A Rolling Stone or Tangled Up In Blue
If you ever do, I'd heavily suggest sticking to studio versions
You don't have to tell us he is a great artist, the whole world knows
Nice reaction 👍🏻♥️
You definitely should check out 'King' by Marillion 🙏. It is awesome!!
Here's what the singer said about the song:
Steve Hogarth: "But I think this song is mostly inspired by Kurt Cobain's suicide notes. I have never met him, but I felt very close to him in some ways. The last ever Nirvana gig was at Munich's Terminal 1. From there the band travelled to Rome and stayed at the Cavalieri Hilton, one of my favourite hotels. Cobain took an overdose in his hotel room and I could just about imagine him there, I could see the hotel room, the bathroom, the furniture...
They then flew Cobain back to America, where as you all know he shot himself. Marillion was the first band to go on stage at Terminal 1 after Nirvana. I was the first to take centre stage and it was a very weird sensation. There I was, dressed as a bloody priest walking up to the centre of the stage and it was as if I was following a ghost... A most peculiar situation!"
Whoever said snippets were put together to make this song is wrong. This wasn’t released while was alive but it is the last song he recorded. The video was pieced together but not the song. There is an acoustic version of this song Kurt recorded at home.
And this home acoustic version is also great
You are accurate, and lovely.
Recommend: Tracy Chapman. Song is Fast Car. Live version.😊
"No Apologies" is my fav.
This song was on the Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows soundtrack
Thank you!

7:20 essentially the same phrase exists in English as well - don’t air your dirty laundry (in public)
her didn't leave anything back here..he left it all on the field
It was literally the last song Kurt Cobain recorded w/ Nirvana in the studio around 1994... The band was promoting the 'In Utero' album in 1993 and went to Europe to tour... Kurt was obviously in agony and attempted to take his own life in Rome, Italy. He recovered and was flown back to the USA where both he and his wife Courtney Love checked into rehab separately in an attempt to get clean... Kurt jumped the wall of the rehab facility in early April and was missing for days before an electrician discovered his body inside his home. Kurt had to be identified w/ fingerprints because he used a shotgun to his head after shooting up he+++n and wrote a 'last letter' where he lamented that his life was unbearable to the point that he could not continue any more.
After Kurt's death, Nirvana's recordings went to Courtney Love... and Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic had a long legal battle to get the track "You know you're right" released. It finally came out in 2002 on the 'best of' self-titled 'Nirvana' album.
Courtney Love lost all her finances and was forced to sell her share of Nirvana's catalog.
Your so wrong on so many different points
@@mikeblanchard7579 That's your opinion... Take a tissue 👎👎🤧
this is the official video for the song.
The scream of Kurt was our voice, describes the pain of our generation, when all the other stupid pop love songs try to say what we should feel, Nirvana listen what we feel and scream it in their songs 😢
I’m not really a fan of Nirvana, but this song I like a lot
can't believe they put "pain" as the chorus subtitles, lol
it's just "hey"
iirc, i think dave grohl said this was the last nirvana song ever recorded.
