  • The Roland SonicCell is a sleek little synth module with a unique feature: an available USB connection turns the SonicCell into a hardware instrument accessible from any DAW or computer-based MIDI sequencer -- without a separate interface.
Bill Holland sets ours up in Apple Logic 8 and shows us how this compact unit can add greatly to your DAW's sonic palette.

its not a "synthesizer expansion board" ..that would be the SRX cards that plug inside it ..its called a "sound module"

Why did Roland print that phrase on the module?

@@crnkmnky Because that's the assignment of the access panel to mount the SRX expansion boards.

Hi. Can you help me please. I got a SonicCell too. I can't find the way to save my Effects to my performance. Thanks

Is this a proper synth, or does this just play samples?

I agree, in fact many if not nearly all the Sonic Cell sounds are the same instrument samples used in the Sound Canvas
but poorly remastered in an attempt to make them sound "more convincing". I have the SC-88 Pro and I still use and it
still blows the Sonic Cell right out of the water, I also have Sound Canvas VA which is the VST version of the 8820. Cakewalk's
TTS-1 also uses SC-88 Pro samples so that tells me the 88 Pro and 8820 were the best general midi modules Roland ever made.

    This is severely horrible!!
Everything Roland made after 1993 was truly rotten. (The W30 was awesome!)
I, however hope that the re-designed 1M brings the magic back… A re-design of the Juno and SH series would definitely have our money.

I recently bought a Roland U-220 and I have an R-8 I just bought on EBay on it's
way in the post. I also have an SC-88 Pro, an MC-505 groovebox and a JV-1080 but
some instruments on the U-220 like the piano, strings and saxophone honestly sound better on
the U-220 and the R-8 is still one of the best Roland drum machines ever made. The JV-1080 also
has some really good sounds, some sounds like the steel guitar sound better and more realistic on
      the Roland JV-1080.
