I do not at all contest the need for justice to be blind/impartial. With that said, it is disheartening that some sexual predators/assaulters have the means to hire lawyers who find and who exploit whatever may assist them to free their clients. We may need to figure out a means to keep sexual predators/assaulters from being released and/or from having their convictions overturned due to a technical error up until the victims of their sexual assaults have had their chance to seek justice. Their victims as well as the families, friends, and/or communities of the victims continue to be victimized by what appears to be a catch and release (due to errors) legal system. No victim(s) of a sexual assault ought to experience witnessing their attackers being freed due to an error or for any other reason. ⚖😢

This case is a great example of the importance of having a jury of your PEERS.

While I understand them not wanting to allow his past bad behavior, it’s akin to police picking up someone suspected of rape and the guy has a long history of rapes.
You are basing your opinions based on NOT living on the border where dangerous people are coming across on a regular basis. If you had criminals walking through your yard on a regular basis....you would have a different opinion about guns and protecting your family and property.

Weinstein’s looking like an old hungover has been. The original judge should be disciplined for that error
I understand the fear of a senior individual seeing a group of men crossing his property, however, he was not in imminent danger, and he fired 'nine warning shots' with an assault weapon, when they were a football field distance away from him. And he erroneously thought --- he claims --- that he was firing above their heads. In recent times, too many elderly persons have taken the 'shoot first, ask questions after' stance, which has resulted in several deaths and grave injuries.
To name two: the man who shot through his door when a 16 year old teen, sent to pick up his brother at the home next to the senior, mistakenly rang the senior's bell instead. He was shot several times through a locked door, during the early evening when it was still light outside. Luckily, he survived. Another senior shot up a car with 3 college students, when the car made a u-turn by backing into the beginning of his driveway. He was a good distance away, in the house or on the porch. A young woman in her early 20s was killed. And there are several more cases, resulting in death, in recent times, across the nation.
I understand the timidity that comes with the vulnerability of old age, but the elderly cannot be allowed to continue to kill out of unfounded perceived imminent dangers. Something has to be done about educating the elderly gun-carrying sector about learning to differentiate between real and perceived danger, and making the right call when deciding to use 'deadly force'. No one should lose his/her life because of another person's unwarranted fear of harm.

A prudent individual builds a door unto his home, and keeps it closed {and locked} when not in use, or being monitored. He does not stand guard with an AK-47, or other assault weapon, and blasts anyone who moves near his house/gets on his property.
The problem of an 'open border' is one of legislative and governmental ineptitude! ALL nations realize that an open --- or penetrable border, is no longer a real 'border', but an open invitation for all to 'come on in'. That matter should be taken up with the governmental authorities who are trained and duly elected to safeguard the life and property of each of the residents of the nation.
Governmental ineptitude does not sanction individual residents turning into vigilantes. Yes, each individual has the right to protect 'life and limb' and safeguard personal property. But, since we have evolved into a civilized nation, I should hope that we each realize we have a duty AS A HUMANBEING to try to ensure that we face 'clear and present danger', before we resort to the use of 'deadly force'. A life, once taken, cannot be restored.
Seriously unless the prosecution and/or police investigation completely fumbled the case I don't understand how that rancher wasn't found guilty of at minimum the assault charges or why he wasn't charged with manslaughter or some sort of attempted murder/manslaughter due to shooting at them so many times at that distance when they posed no threat from that distance.
I guess I can somewhat understand the mistrial after thinking about it more and hearing why it can pose some doubt but man..... that's absolutely crazy as that guy should not be able to bust off like that and have no repercussions
