If you never had the pleasure of seeing Broadcast on tour, particularly in their early years with keyboardist Roj Stevens and guitarist Tim Felton, then this is for you. Actually, this is for everyone. It's a dark and saddening time for fans of the band since the recent and sudden passing of singer/multi-instrumentalist Trish Keenan. But I can't think of a better way to celebrate her life than to spread the group's music around to as many people as possible. Broadcast's Black Session from Paris, France -- May 4th, 2000 is a perfect representation of their trademark electronic art-pop, Trish's amazing voice and the band's ability to transform experimental recordings into beautiful live performances.
This set features the original lineup that toured in support of their spectacular debut album, The Noise Made By People. It also includes all of those quirky electronic segues and dissonance between tracks, along with stellar renditions of early singles, albums cuts and B-sides like "Message From Home", "Where Youth and Laughter Go", "Echo's Answer" and more.

best live recording of all time. I really hope that one day it will officially release it on vinyl. this version of “unchanging window + chord simple” breaks my soul. amazing, beautiful, raw, powerful.
I am grateful that the music of Trish & James is surviving in 2022 !
I feel like I just found the gold pot at the end of the rainbow
Hearing this for the first time and there are no words…
I am reduced to tears every time I hear this beautiful, beautiful music. It comforts my soul and makes me feel as though I'll be okay, no matter what may happen. I never met Trish, but after years of listening to her music she now seems like a dear friend who I miss terribly. R.I.P. Trish and thank you Broadcast for all the lovely music. Also thank you Danijela for the upload, this a superb set with great sound quality!
What song of theirs caught your attention originally?
I just discovered this session, having been a ~15year Broadcast fan, and yep. You captured almost exactly how it's hitting me.
Every time I listen to Broadcast now I'm filled with blissed-out joy at the music, and Keenan's voice and words, but at the same time the weird sadness of losing a loved one that I never actually met.
Broadcast is, imho, one of the most important bands of the twenty-first century. The death of Trish Keenan is an irreparable disaster for the music of our time. I still mourn her. In addition to the albums, we are left with extraordinary recordings such as this "Black Session". Thank you France Inter for these fifty minutes of intense emotion!
I would sell my soul to have this is a live LP
No joke
Thank God they managed to get a very decent back catalogue
This is probably one of the most amazing things I have ever heard.
100 % agree
I can’t even believe I’m just hearing this now for the first time, stunning
I was Lucky, to see all of this live in 2005, now I can die in peace. And will most probably do so

Trish Keenan voice comes from heaven.
The best live show ever.
The first and only time I saw them play live I couldn't believe how loud they played... It was a much more physical experience than I expected. Made me love the band even more.
so jealous
Loud is good 👍
I saw them in a tiny basement at a college on the Witch Cults tour... wish I could do that again.
If only I could have bought tickets while I was there. To say this music is otherworldly is a vast understatement.
RIP xx
What a beautiful and superb set. Thank you for this upload!! Can't believe I'm only finding this now
Best live performance all time
It is! People realize, finally.
I discovered broadcast in 2000 when I was working in uk, the sound made by the people.... Amazing ! And I forgot....but with youtube and you !! I found that live masterpiece and I will die with ! Thx thx a lot and thx France Inter (I m french !)
This performance touched me.
I love broadcast so much
15:30 on... my god I love echos answer. the way her voice just comes spilling out is so luxurious...Trish!! come back.
Great session, RIP Trish Keenan
R.I.P Trish, LEGEND band
It is unbelievable how good they sound live. Goodness me...
"I look outside" in particular is so haunting... We miss you dearly Trish...
I've listened to this so many, many times, the drummer really lifts into the stratosphere
drumming is crazy
I had the pleasure of seeing her play live before she passed r.i.p.
Me too = 1996.
:-)
Long was this year, long was last year, long was every year.
But NO. Every year is so short. Hardly it started, it is already over.
I love BROADCAST & Thank you for uploading this Music !
Can't thank you enough for this upload. Warms my heart.
I just found out last night that Trish the singer passed away way back in 2011... I wasn't a super huge fan but still a solid fan--I never kept up with what they had done in more recent times. Then this amazing live session from France pops up in my video feed... Wow just wow this performance is otherworldly and touching...
I really can't think of anything to say but.. thanks for the upload.. I'm speechless..
The version of Echo's Answer here is really lovely and special.
Deeply moving
absolutely the best- RIP Trish Keenan
Beautiful music by a great band . Trish keenly missed.
black session france inter avec bernard lenoir , j y etait ,so many were made for more than a decade in this renowned radio ....
💙
jesus, this is phenomenal.
Echoes answer is treasure for my ears and brain
Has anyone noticed that their 8. Interlude 2 (0:23:38) was almost note from note inspired by French Library Music Electronica pioneer Cecil Leuter's "Pop Électronique" in 1969?!
Interesting of you to notice that...inspired, perhaps. Here (goo.gl/Mzx7kG) you can find more of their influences guessed and compiled, if you are interested. Nothing comes from a vacuum, really.
Wow! That is fantastic!
I typed in "May 4th, 2000" in the CZcams Search Bar, and sorted the results by "View Count", and this was the top video, with 112,323 views as of 05/04/2022 at 12:35 A.M. Eastern Time(U.S. & Canada).
This is amazing
Thank you so much for posting this! I still miss Trish Keenan, though I didn't know her personally.
this is special, thanks for sharing
I wonder if the band members know who much their music still appreciated.
Utterly glorious.
"My room is to small for parties, too spacious when you´re lonely"...
This is where the phrase, "they killed it" originated.
Or should have, anyway.
I've long loved Broadcast and saw them live in 2000 and this performance remains my single favorite recording of theirs, period. Rawer and edgier-sounding than on their albums, this is them at their live peak.
this is legitimately the best live performance i’ve ever seen, come on let’s go in particular is astounding (wish it was longer though..)
Beyond good
incrediBLEY...
Wow. have never heard. fantastique...
Thank you!! Amazing band. Trish will live forever.
love this band
So so so good live!...my fav avant pop, krautrock band. Thanks for upload.
A simply beautiful band like no other I know. Thank you so much for this
Rip TK - ❤️❤️
amazing set of songs ... cant get enough of it
Wow! I can't even describe how much I love this. Lucky to have seen them a few times and I'll never forget it. Talent, beauty, depth and so much goodness! This has been on repeat non-stop. Thank you Broadcast. : )
same here...
Christopher Smith I wish Warp would release that performance on record, it's amazing...It would be a great addition to their discography
@@ERRREC - That would be won-won-wonderful but I reckon the rights for the recording are probably owned by Radio France.
:-)
This is lovely... We miss you, Trish.
incredible!!
They're a good bunch.
Less than a minute in and already in awe
thanks alot!!!!!!!!
Magnifique !!!
Love them. Reminds me of White Noise “An Electric storm” and The United States of America’s 1968 album
They liked both of those LP's, so it's no wonder.
:-)
Thank for posting this. Definitely a gem of early Broadcast.
So f'ing good,
this is beautiful music.
Her voice on a live recording!! What a gift to us!! Thanks a lot for uploading this one
Thankyou so much for uploading this! This really displays what was so great about this band, and i'm saddened to think of how much more they had ahead of them.
Sorcery and Divination. Such sounds provoking joy and melancholy!
Wild and beautiful set. Thank you for sharing.
Superb. Trish's vocals are incredible throughout as is the bands playing. Fantastic recording.
those opening chords for look outside in this version do something to my chest everytime the keys are played in that tone. what exactly is it that music tones do to the body, why does it feel like a flashing? or pulsing i guess, not like a heartbeat pulsating.
19:09 the gong sound
then 19:13 is the sound i'm talking about. that ringing i guess maybe it's not the keys.
Just heard them playing this session on Sirius XMU! My interests were peaked so, definetly checking out the rest of their discography
Thank you so much for sharing, love Broadcast, probably have seen all the youtube videos and found this treasure!
spooky atmospherics
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
