    • @SuperKikelove
      @SuperKikelove Před 8 lety +8

      +Harkness78 In my view it was, why? because despite the "tone", it highlights a giant issue that is destroying our society which is the fact that people have a tendency to think that they know best when it comes to other people's lifes. and that is a big issue. People need to understand that no matter you personal view, you have NO AUTHORITY to tell anyone what to do, feel or think. People don't understand this.

      @randzopyr1038 Před 8 lety

      +Enrique Gonzalez By being part of a society you give people the right to tell you what to do. You accept certain social norms, you accept the rule of law, etc... You can push for social change, but breaking the law or violating the taboos of society while still living in said society will cause that society to try to punish you. That's why Snowden is in Russia - many Americans don't necessarily agree that what he did was wrong, but until the social norms (in this case laws) change, he's an outcast and if he tries to come back into the society he has to face its punishment.
      To give a specific example - this may have been a case of underage consensual sex, but far too often it happens without consent - were it legal it would happen that much more often without consent because Rape is particularly hard to prove and prosecute for a myriad of reasons far too detailed and long to discuss here. But if you can't tell someone what to do or how to behave, people will do it because they can, and more people will be damaged for life because of it.

    • @hitomi969
      @hitomi969 Před 8 lety +6

      +Jacob Knighten
      But how do you measure the quality of a life ?
      It's a too subjective concept !

    • @KhaledTheSaudiHawkII
      @KhaledTheSaudiHawkII Před 8 lety

      +hitomi969 l think there exists a short list of quantifiable list of life quality metrics that should include mental, social and financial health. You should balance that against the fun-making bad choices you might have to make. Smoking, for instance, is a redundant perpetual risk that clearly doesnt pass an objective risk/fun analysis in the long run. You get my point l guess.

      Wrong. Life shouldn't be measured by anybody's yardstick but your own.

    • @JonnyRocketfingers7
      @JonnyRocketfingers7 Před 8 lety

      +hitomi969 Exactly! Quality or meaning is subjective. But, if it were to be objective, like any other living thing our purpose would be to grow. There are even studies that show life is perceived longer when we try new things. Both in the moment and in memory. So, how much you have changed and grown is a great measure of life quality.

    For the record, Lori Maddox also had relationships with Jimmy Page and Keith Moon apart from her time with Bowie. She was one of the most famous groupies of the 1970s and was underage for all of these encounters. She consistently lied about her age in order to get famous musicians to sleep with her and was very much a willing participant. Look up an old interview with her discussing this time of her life and tell me if that looks like a regretful woman to you.

    The issue raised by Dr. Amalu is important because it shed light on a hazard of playing football that wasn't acknowledged beforehand. I agree that people should be allowed to determine when they want to risk their health, but people can't make a reasonable decision if they aren't informed of the dangers. The film starring Will Smith actually confuses the issue by being called "concussion". There is a difference between chronic traumatic encephalopathy and concussions, and CTE can manifest in someone who is never diagnosed with a concussion.

I don’t know how I feel about this piece. Brain injury is a serious disability, at times it’s severity can be compared to paralysis. Honestly..I’d have a hard time choosing between the two, I really think I might choose paralysis had I not improved symptomatically this last year.
    People are free to live their lives and fuck things up, hurt themselves with drugs and reckless action...but shouldn’t limits be drawn?
    Brain injury destroyed my life.

Are you trying to be your version of politically correct on those who you don't like for being politically correct? If someone wants to say, "hey....heads up....football is dangerous", I say that's good. Well said, Bill. Every NFL fan with a brain knows all too well the health risks that the players may deal with. Torn ligaments, broken bones, concussions. As you said, all an unfortunate side-effect to a sport many Americans (and I, as a Canadian) enjoy.

    People should not be trying to make laurie (sp?) feel bad about her experience; the point is that the fact that she did not feel abused by it doesn't justify other people doing the same thing in the future.

  • @mena376
    @mena376 Před 8 lety

    But people weren't aware of the consequences of football head injuries. And many people still aren't fully aware and don't take it seriously. There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting people make informed decisions. Why try to stop information?

    • @aimraah2586
      @aimraah2586 Před 8 lety

      ADULTS are aware of the consequences. High school and middle school kids are, by definition, NOT. And most high school seniors are as big and strong as grown ups and can crack open each other's skulls just as easily.
      I have no sympathy for the NFL players, they're millionaires. I have no sympathy for the college players, they're all over 18 and capable of making their own informed decisions. But we have to take measures to protect the high school kids. For every one that actually goes on to become an NFL millionaire, dozens get injuries that afflict them for the rest of their lives.

    • @mena376
      @mena376 Před 8 lety

      So many parents, coaches, and young athletes just don't take the warnings seriously. Or dismiss the idea without even listenning to the evidence. Not all ADULTS are aware of the consequences.

    • @ImTheMan0fSteel

      That's the risk he took. Sometimes bad shot happens, sometimes that skydivers parachute doesn't open, still better than living a lifetime with a stick up your ass.

    • @EHCBunny4real
      @EHCBunny4real Před 8 lety +3

      HaHaHa. Are you really equivocating sex with parachuting? Do you know the majority of men are mature enough to use simple reason over risk taking? How many men do you know who fuck and how many do you know who skydive? A fool is always a fool

      +EH CBunny you're the one indirectly comparing sex to recklessness to begin with, I'm just branching off your reasoning. I love sex, me and my partner participate multiple times a week. I've known several of my friends who have gone skydiving. I'd love to try one day. All I'm saying is, if I was available and met someone as a spur of the moment thing who was kind enough to want mess around, I'm not going to hand them an std panel first lol. Although, I'm also not going to go out and buy nights with 10 dollar hookers either. You can be reckless without being stupid. Your more likely to die on your commute to work than most "reckless" things

    • @EHCBunny4real
      @EHCBunny4real Před 8 lety

      You're assuming I'm comparing it but Iam comparing his promiscuity with sex drugs, and alcohol. Sheen admitted his reckless behavior gave him HIV. Sheen played it fast and loose until the wheel fell off. Why can't I laugh while passing him along the road? Sometimes slow and steady wins the race.

    Okay, I see this has opened a whole new debate on age of consent. So I'd like to do a little poll here: Who is for the age of consent to be lowered to 15? In other words, do you believe a 15-year-old should has the maturity and ability to consent to sex?
    If you don't, answer "no"; if you do for boys only, answer "yes, males"; for girls only, answer "yes, females"; for both, answer "yes, both".
