My First Concert. 1975
Elvin Bishop.
I was 14.
My date, Brenda Brown, was 17.🥰
I was a Lucky boy!
Met at "Church camp"!😁😏
This song was the highlight of the night. Wonderful time!
Me without a car yet, her, 50 miles away.
So sad, it didnt last.😕
Broke my Heart, so far in the past.
How the years have flashed by so quickly dear Brenda!
I'll always hold a special place in my Heart for the brief, Wonderful moments we shared!🥰
Micky Thomas was Amazing, Live, 10 feet from us!👍
What a Time that was to be Alive!
Mike in San Diego.🌞🎸🚀🖖
Elvin Bishop was the guitarist in this band. The lead vocalist, Mickey Thomas, is one of the great, underrated vocalists of his time. If you want to hear how awesome he was as a singer, react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.
great suggestion ... absolute must.
💯
Or listen to "It's Not Enough" ..
No. He is not underrated by anyone that has listened to pop music over the last 4 or 5 decades
@@axetu true-not underrated. Maybe under ppls radar today is all
The Midnight Special is where it all went down!!!
The 70's was a magical time for music, we had the Commodores, then Elton John, the the Ohio Players and Led Zeppelin...you name it we had it. Miss it... ; )
Totally Totally Totally agree! The 70's without a doubt was simply the greatest period for music "of all kinds" the world has ever seen!!!
You forgot to mention the kinks
@@billhill4929 The Kinks, Queensryche, Foreigner... incredibly diverse music scene. We were very fortunate
@@p.h.5752Styx,Blue Oyster Cult ,Yes ,Bad Co,Moody Blues ,Alice Cooper,Grand Funk Railroad,Stones,Pink Floyd,The Who , The Animals ,CCR, Foriegner,Journey,Rod Stewart and Faces,Guess Who ,BTO, Beach Boys, Bob Seeger and Siver Bullitt Band,Black Sabbath,On and on!
Yes, you're so right, the 70's was "The BOMB" decade for music and there were so many soulful singers during that time too!!!
I was a teenager in the 70s and the Midnight Special had so many great bands.
Do you remember night flight tv show pre mtv
Girl,I think you can sing a bit too.
All the best groups were on
H&O ❤
yeah before MTV of you wanted to see your fav rock bands on tv it was midnight special or Don Kirshner's rock concert.
Just love when youngins finally hear our music............
One of the best songs ever written. Just trickles down right to your soul. Late 70's had some of the most phenomenal music, in every genre imaginable.
I kinda feel sorry for some of the younger generations because they are missing out on some of the greatest music in history. Thank you for not closing your eyes or your mind to such truly great music! 👍
It's their own choice.
So true Brother!
Truth.
I agree!
Hi Britt, Back in the day, singers & groups had to perform "LIVE" on The Midnight Special and this showed the world whether you were good or not; there was no lip-syncing or hiding behind your studio recordings and definitely no auto-tune!!! Needless to say, if you performed well on the show your record sales would skyrocket; but if you performed poorly your record sales would tank!!! In other words they had to deliver the goods!!! Thanks for this reaction too, because as you can see & hear Elvin Bishop & his band did their thing!!!
There were many great live performances on music shows back then. We were spoiled.
Yes. "Midnight Special" baby. Great old memories.
Love The Midnight Special. Mom and Dad would let me stay up late to watch it. Check out Manfred Mann, Blinded by the light on Midnight Special...they nailed it.
@@dougtaylor2803 I Love that song!
Right on showed their stuff live great memories damn miss those days enjoy 😊😊😊😊
This lead singer is from my hometown, Cairo Georgia, he’s still got it !
#Mickey
I remember watching this. Mickey Thomas the singer joined Jefferson starship after this smash hit. Elvin Bishop is the guitar player. The midnight special with Wolfman jack. Was the MTV of my generation. Was the only way we got to see a band. Pre internet. After midnight special My favorite show with the harder bands came on called Don Kirshner's Rock Concert🤘🤘🤘
63 years old here. You nailed how it was back in the day.
I'm 57 and i used to stay up to see both of those shows. Sat morning cartoons & late nite music !
@@rogerdaly6326 yep that was it .younger People still can't believe that television went off the air at night.. That was one of the only night it stayed on late. Lol. And I noticed that it's. Called the midnight special now. They leave out Wolfman Jack...lol
@@kd8199 well there were appearances by bands on other shows but not like those late night shows mentioned earlier. but they did appear on variety shows like Sonny and Cher and Smothers Brothers, even on American Bandstand.
@@rogerdaly6326 Sat morning cartoons were a huge thing back then. The new fall season premieres was like Christmas to me.
Elvin Bishop is so underrated as a blues guitarist.
Elvin Bishop Band ,he is the guitar lead you see. He wrote Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Bishop ; feeling that his gravelly voice wouldn't do the song justice, invited Mickey Thomas, ,a background singer in his band to sing it. Mickey Thomas still sings this song in every Starship concert and still sounds this good I am told, the pride of Cairo, Georgia. Reni Slais is the Rainbow girl who punches it up. Southern Rock had its zenith 70s-80s Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. If you want to continue this groove Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See". Love your bright , insightful and upbeat reactions.
Mickey Thomas has serious chops. Don't think he got as much recognition for it as he deserves. If you want the hear another great song that showcases his voice. Listen to the studio version of Jane from Jefferson Starship, which was the band he later fronted after The Elvin Bishop Group. Incredible.
So agree! Everyone likes to mention Steve Perry, but I think Mickey is overlooked and belongs in the conversation as one of the greatest singers ever
Yes indeed. Jane is a monster song.
Love your enthusiasm! And yes, nothing compares to the 70s! Imagine listening to all these great hits on the radio! ❤️
Can't stop watching. Great song !! Reni Slais, puts her heart and soul, into every performance too.
Mickey had one of the best voices in rock. He had to to sing lead for Starship. Check out the song "Jane" for another great example of his singing. And yeah girl the 70's was the best time to be a young person. Great music, muscle cars, bellbottoms and silk shirts.
Yep bellbottoms. Then the super bells. I bought me some really nice Anaconda snake skin boots. My dad ask me why did you buy such nice boots nobody can see them because of your pants..lol
@@SIR-DanielHunterplatform Shoes and Dingo Boots!

70's was the best for everything!!!!!!
Every time I hear this song. It breaks my heart. Very nostalgic. It always sound so fresh. It is one those songs I never get tired of hearing
But why does it break your heart?
Embrace it!
@@billhill4929 it reminds me of a broken relationship
Take a deep breath, and then be happy!
I grew up in the 60's and 70's a lot of great music, bee gees, KC and the sunshine band, steely Dan so many more lots o fun
My friends tell me I have a head full of useless musical knowledge, lol it does an old guy much joy to see young folks discover good music.
The word is”soul”. These songs just have SOUL!
The singer, Mickey Thomas, went on to Jefferson Starship. "Jane" by the Starship really shows off his vocal skills.
Agreed! My favorite song of any of the Jefferson Airplane / Starship hits - 'Jane' !
Soaring vocals and some killer guitar riffs!
I grew up as a kid in the 70's... It was such a cool time....The singers actually could sing too. They needed zero electronics to help their voices...
Huge hit . Was on the radio all the time ❤😂
Mickey Thomas was outstanding and Elvin Bishop on guitar was incredible.
Trust me...Mikey doesn't need anyone singing with him, that man can sang!! The 70's was the best time to grow up and the music was absolutely amazing, so amazing that its still popular till this day and my kids love the music too!! So many great memories from my childhood!!!
Was 28 when this was a hit remember holding my baby girl and dancing 🕺 around with her to this. At 74 this is still a good time 👵❤️
This is of those Summer classics that brings me back to my youth. The guitar solo never gets old.
Yes, 70'S anad 80's music was the best. I was there.
were great days and this song like so many others have stood the test of time.... hard to believe it's almost 50 years
I love how Mickey Thomas simply walked away from the mic after he was done singing. Mic drop. Basically saying, "Oh yeah, I'm bad." "I know it." Absolutely incredible!!!
Elvin on Guitar, Mickey Thomas on Vocals, He was in the group Starship we built this City on Rock and Roll,
Mickey Thomas lead singer, he was also a member of Jefferson Starship... check out their song "Jane" if you want to hear Mickey belt-out more of those sweet vocals 🙂
I did grow up in the 70s. 60s-70s, best music era hands down. Loved watching the Midnight Special and you couldn't lip-sync on that show.
Yep 70s was the all time greatest time for music no matter what you were into
Mickey Thomas was the most underrated singer of all time as Elvin Bishop was one of the most underrated guitar players ever.... Whenever I hear this it brings back bittersweet memories of my first love in 1975 .... sadly she is gone as is our youth but this brings it back even if only for a short time....
Just saw Mickey Thomas a couple of months ago! He still sounds just as fresh today as he did back then!
Hey Brit great reaction! Seventies baby here It It was a great time to be a kid. The music the movies the vibe Was just awesome. Didn't have to worry about a lot of stuff you have to worry about today. The older I get the more I miss that time period.
I wish I was a 70s kid!!!
This is facts.
Yes I totally agree with you I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those days. Such a fun time to grow up back then I miss those days now more than ever before 🤔
@@frankrizzo4460 Agreed the only thing I Would change Is having the life experience I have now back then lol! Would have been really fun lol!
😢 I know how you feel I’m 73 years old and I hate the fact that I have to get ready for a civil fucking war
Grew up in the 70’s! Yes ma’am! You can’t beat the 70’s and 80’s music! Real talent!!!
This was like in the top 10 in 1976 ,it takes me back to when I was 15 , am now 62
This song is one of my all-time favorites. It's well written, well produced, etc. But with Elvin's guitar work and Mickey Thomas wailing on the vocals, it's just perfect.
The great Elvin Bishop
Midnight special was a tv show you could watch all the current acts on ! And yes it came on at midnight !
Great reaction !
May Gods Blessings be with you !
*I was 7 years old when this came out. I didn't become familiar with it until a few years later. Once I made it to middle school it had become a well known song for slow dancing.*
I have such a special memory of slow dancing to this in a bar late at night after working the evening shift. We played it over and over on the “ juke box” until the bartender said enough already. Great song but let it rest a few he said. Yes, I am old, 68 , was in my early twenties at the time. Robin Bishop was great and this song made me a huge Mickey Thomas fan forever. Elvin said he could not do justice to the lead on this song so he tapped Mickey.
What a voice!!! Great concert too!!
I miss it soooooooo bad!!!!
I was 14 in 1980 and the 70’s was amazing Britt, you would have loved it. I would have taken you to the lake and we would have had an amazing time lol.
😂😂😂😂
Any group that was on the midnight special was fantastic!
Girl you 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember watching the Saturdaynight Specials, and Don Kirshner's Rock Concerts. 😎They were absolutely amazing, They were live and in color. Unlike the MTV videos of the 80's or todays CZcams music videos.
Great stuff, Britt! Yeah, more Midnight Special performances!
Mickey's voice hasn't changed much over the years.
I was 17 with that song come out and I still remember the girl that I sent it to wonderful time to be alive
You know your music love it Thank you 😊 ❤️ 🎉🎉🎉
The 70's were a special time for music. Musicians played their own instruments, & wrote most of their own music. Vocals were sung without the aid of auto tune. We had vinyl, 8-tracks, & cassettes. I largely grew up in Augusta. There was a Mexican restaurant called Sancho's Taco on the south side, off of the Gordon Highway, that we would go to. We would get a pitcher of ice cold beer, which was served in a glass pitcher & heavy glass beer mugs to go with our tacos. (By the way, the legal age back then was 18. In high school, the students were permitted to smoke outside of the building.) Sancho's had a Wurlitzer juke box, & Fooled Around & Fell In Love was on it. We played it every time we stopped in. Good times & good memories of an era now long past.
Mickey Th9mas,with Elvin Bishop, and his band were phenomenal! This is my favorite song of all time! Tuvm
The ‘70’s were the best…great clothes and great music new every single week - artists wanted to make their own distinct mark… we were free range children
I can’t explain what this song does for me, this performance in particular. This wasn’t my era either but I can certainly appreciate Mr. Bishop. Those breaks, as you said, they’re amazing. It gives nostalgia in all the right ways.
The man playing the guitar is Elvin Bishop!!!!!!!!!
LOVE LOVE Mickey Thomas!! Vocals and all!! Wish I could have been born a bit sooner, I would have hunted him out...LOL Seriously though, great under rated singer. We saw them in Clearwater a few weeks ago and he still has it!!!!!
This is a special one because they are performing live. You nailed it; he's really good live.
Micky can sing his ass off, effortlessly cranking the notes.
The beauty of the 60's and 70's is there were 100's of bands and songs that were barely talked about because there were SOOOOOO many of them, there wasnt enough time and room... very sad.
I LOVE Mickey Thomas! Jefferson Starship is his band. Sarah, is my favorite song! I have it as a ring tone! I am subscribing! I love how he keeps looking at the girl singer, and she is ignoring him! Love your channel!
This is ELVIN BISHOP, who plays the red guitar, and Mickey Thomas sings. Later in his career Mickey also sang with Grace Slick in JEFFERSON STARSHIP and STARSHIP.
Excellent choice!! One of the great songs!!
I'm bk2 watch and listen again bc you hv the right response (ha ha) and I love Mickey Thomas on the vocals here and the whole band. What a song and what a performance! 💜👈🎵 😘
Elvin Bishop is famously the leader also of the band WILD CHERRY. (Play that funky music white boy).
This is one of my favorite songs and another one that's like this one is Billy Vera. At this moment. I know you will love this one too.
Born in 57 ,Grew up in 60’-70’s just Great Music and Cars !!
Good song from the good times.
Complete American music a mix of Country Gospel the blues and rock and roll……
Charlie Daniels - Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay
He ain't good lookin', but he sure can play
The 70s has the music ever made, its all real singers. Too many bands to name. The studio version is really good too.
I was lucky enough to grow up in the 60's and 70's, and we would have loved to have you with us back then. And I think you would rock either of those jump suits! There was just an amazing quantity of amazing songs covering numerous genres back in the 70's. There was something for everyone. You're already amazed at the music, and you have barely scratched the surface! It's so much fun to watch you discover that era of music that many of us older people sometimes take for granted. Really enjoy your reactions! Please keep up the great work you're doing!!!
If you love the 70's check out Grand Funk Railroad - "We're an American Band (1973 Studio Footage)" also Grand Funk Railroad "Some Kind of Wonderful".
Their tears left me cold as a stone.
I grew up in the 60's and 70's it was the best era ever loved it....
I love this ! I was 18 years old when this song came out !!!!!!
I grew up in the 70's and it was a blast! Best music and fun times!
Elvin perfection 🥰 💞 😊😊😊❤
Elvin Bishop is the guitarist and Mickey Thompson is the lead singer and yes, he was a gospel singer in his youth. Mickey went on to sing for Jefferson Starship / Starship.
He is one of the best singers in Rock/Soul.
The male singer became a member of rock group “Jefferson Starship” you need to hear him sing “Jane” !!
A 70's Banger. Great reaction
Mickey Thomas (the male singer) was born in 1949. I saw him a few years ago in Starship as they opened for Boston. I actually went to see Boston and I saw that Mickey was going to sing and I thought it would just be another old-guy performance but he stole the show and hasn't lost any of his power or ability.
He's Mickey Thomas, guitar is Elvin
Jane by Jefferson Starship is another great Mickey song
Listen to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship. Mickey Thomas is a spectacular singer. Extremely underrated.
"Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a song written and performed by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop with Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Of Starship. I saw him at Disney every year with Starship. He was much older and hit every single note. You should look up from his stuff from Starship.
Takes me right back to 1974 jr. high school, this song was on the charts for a LONG time! Mickey Thomas...great vocalist, don't know why he doesn't get the credit he deserves??
Oh yes Britt. I grew up in the seventies. The music back then was so memorable. You had such a variety of genres of music.
Britt I grew up in the 60s and the 70s (my wife I graduated from the same high school in 1977). The Midnight Special was a great way to hear and see a band perform live before investing time and money getting a ticket for their concert arrived in your home town. I fooled around and fell in love with my best friend, and we are still together!
you would of loved the 70s!! I was fortunate enough to live the 70s during my mid teens to early 20s. Music was everywhere. Enjoy!
Your reaction and comments were spot on Britt! You brought back so many memories for me since I did live through the 70's! Fabulous!
Skinny little dude with a big voice. So rock and roll. The backup singer has very good mic awareness. Always loved this tune. Great, earnest reaction.
Mickey Thomas is out there still, performing with Starship. He’s in his 70s but he sounds great
You would have loved growing up in the 70s. The Midnight Special was a show on the weekends we'd watch and see all these artists. It truly was a great decade.
The best thing about the Midnight Special was that the artist performed live every time.
Mickey Thomas is the singer.....Elvin Bishop on Guitar
Mickey Thomas in Jefferson Starship,,,Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now,,,,💥💥💥💥👍👍👍😎
