PIT / TVI Maneuver on a Kia K5 - Sideswipes civilian SUV (Arkansas State Police)

- Trooper's Narrative:
On June 10, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., while patrolling the area Hwy 253 and Old Hwy 271, I observed a grey Kia
passenger car passing vehicles on a double yellow and driving recklessly. I initiated my blue lights and siren, but the vehicle
began to flee south on Hwy 253. I pursued the vehicle for several miles while the vehicle continued to flee and drive recklessly.
Once the opportunity presented itself and traffic started to clear, I performed a tactical vehicle intervention. After performing the
tactical vehicle intervention, the suspect vehicle attempted to regain control, but I continued to push the vehicle until the
suspect vehicle left the roadway. Once the suspect vehicle came to rest, Troopers held lethal cover on the vehicle and placed
the driver into custody who was identified as Hargett and the passenger into custody who was identified as Wilson. Troopers
then searched the vehicle where we located a plastic container containing suspected methamphetamine as well as several
used syringes containing suspected methamphetamine residue. Also, Wilson stated she had methamphetamine located inside
her bra where it was retrieved by female deputies. Let it be known that during the initial tactical vehicle intervention, the suspect
vehicle sideswiped a civilian SUV, and that driver was transported to Mercy Hospital. Both parties were transported to SCADC
without incident.

@@woody4u247 I think the primary issue is that many police officers are not adequately trained in the methods of ending pursuits effectively, decisively, and safely. Many are not TVI certified, much less have the level of vehicle training that ASP has. In many cases the budget simply isn't there - many cities have a strict policy that governs whether pursuits can be initiated because of this. They do not have the budget to constantly replace the fleet whenever a vehicle gets damaged, unlike most state patrol agencies.
Simply accusing so-called liberals for the policies without understanding the complexity of the issue is called scapegoating.

Terrible TVI. You don't do it in a corner when traffic is coming the other way. It caused the perp to hit an innocent person and they had to be transported to the hospital.

I've only seen one car that was being pursued get away from the police, and there was a tremendous amount of luck involved. I'm 72 years old, and the stupidity that's out there never ceases to amaze me!
Me too ... I'm 75, and I've never in my life seen some of what's going on all around us. It seems we've entered an era when law enforcement means absolutely nothing to some. Back in 'our day', cops had the right and authority to deal with this type of people I a much more convincing and effective way. However ..... these are changing times in which we're living ..... and sorry to say, not for the better.

First pit manouver was very risky ! The police officer did not take into account the incoming traffic. It almost caused an accident and an innocent driver could have been harmed !

And when he gets respect, he tries not to repeat these mistakes. But most police officers hide like rats behind immunity and not only repeat bad behavior, but also create much worse behavior.

Seems like a dangerous choice to pit him in the the oncoming lane on a blind curve.
In addition to that laundry list of charges for the Driver I'm pretty sure I saw multiple illegal lane changes and failure to use proper turn signals. Certainly a couple of fine upstanding Citizens. I love these videos and this was a nice PIT in the end but the amount of luck involved ... Usually these PIT's only are being used when there is a clear stretch of straight road. This felt more like a hastily done one because thre was an oppurtunity. But with 2 cars going around a bend in the road like that. This could have ended with a lot of casualties or worse.

I have watched it frame by frame by the second cruisers cam and it appears somehow the Kia either didn't make any contact with or barely any contact with the silver SUV. I thought for sure with the view from the main patrol vehicle he made direct contact with them.
They were stopped on their way to church!
