Love how you mentioned the prices - always helpful and refreshing opposed to the people who say they are on a budget build and then proceed to put dura ace cranks on their bike lol
Thanks bro! Glad to hear it was useful🙂
watched that gcn video too huh
@@waveywheelies You must be an amazing bargain hunter as some of those prices seemed really cheap for NZ.
Aka gcn
Tbh I built a budget bike , I found a beat up dura ace 7710 track crank with ultegra 6500 bb for 250$ Canadian shipping included , sanded and repolished it myself looks like new now after some hard work
Super clean build, I’d for sure throw on some fat tires in the future.
Great build! These videos transmit a great sense of calmness 🚲🧘♂️
I appreciate that man! Thanks for watching👌
As always nice build, white frame, all black components. Very good
That frame is fire. Awesome build man!
Thanks man! 🙌
Just switched over to a steamroller myself, took what I could from my old Jamis Beatnik. Bunch of budget parts: alex rims wheels, old lasco cranks, tekro brakes I was given. Few new bits to make up the cockpit. Really love the bones of this bike, first Surly frame I've ridden, really love it.
Nice! They are awesome frames
Just built a Steamroller for trail riding and im loving the bike
Definitely a different feel to my street mashing Cinelli
Rad, what tyres did you go for?
@@waveywheelies I went with Continental Cyclocross Race 35c tires
Solid build and im loving that gear ratio looks chill
Cheers man! Yeah, it’s a nice ratio to just mess around on and learn tricks
Dude, you're building the bikes I see in my dreams!
nice build. I would have gone for wider tyres though. For me the point of the steamroller is the super tight geometry with big tyre clearance. With fat tyres they are a lot of fun to ride on gravel.
Thanks! Check out my other two steamroller builds, they both have wide tyres!
Love the build - I have a Steamroller in black and it's awesome! Great that your g/f is riding fixed!
Thanks! That’s awesome, steamrollers are so much fun!✌️
Great video, in the future I would want to build one of those old Peugeot bikes and make it SS
Thanks! You definitely should, they are good fun
*love the simplicity of it bruv*
Thanks bro!
Sweet as always!
😊😊
Watching from Philippines🇵🇭 nice build, hoping everyone could ride a nice bike like that🚴
Me too! Thanks for the support✌️
Noicely done. Love the clean aesthetic
Thanks!!
Seriously awesome. Wish you were a yacht designer….. I’d bring you in, in an instant.. keep it up😎
Another stunna.
Thanks man🙌
this build is fine af
awesome build,she’s gonna love it!
Cool build! Prices always fluctuate but I appreciate knowing what you were spending and why
Price is always important, good job Bro💪😍😁
Really nice low key build! Hope she enjoys it
Thanks, she is!
Seems like a sweet runner
Sure is!
down to earth bike build, dig it
thanks!
🖤🖤🖤 great job!
Thanks yo 🌻
really clean build
Thankyou!
I'd love to know whether all these builds have ended up as your bikes, are built for friends, or whether these are customer bikes (ie your setup is a pro shop, rather than as i imagine, a sweeeeetly kitted out home garage) - either way, I'm always blown away by the end result....one of my fave bike porn / garage porn channels ... word! 👍🏻👍🏻
Also love how on the post build edit the camera pan usually clips your identity - it ads to the mystery of "who is Wavey Wheels"....classy
Thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate the support! Most of them are my bikes, some I've built for friends and some I've sold on. and your right about the home garage 🙂 ✌️
Beautiful bike build!
Thanks 🙂
I just finish watching the video i like it a lot even tho i don't have a bike
awesome build... i want something similar for a 'beater' around town bike (with some racks and/or basket for carrying stuff)
Nice Build. Love The Color.
Thanks✌️
That’s a beautiful bike! Congrats and excellent video
Thank you! I appreciate the support!! 🙌
Bike of mine has similar white frame with no bosses, no decals. No names on it. I thought about spraying junctions in different color but then decided lots of marks and scratches it has (all done by previous owner, frame is only one year old) give it enough character. This frame was an eyeopener - I started to like white as a frame color.
Yep!
Ad always awesome videos. Thank you for detailing the price and mentioning the USD in the end since I am from Europe and I do not know yet how the NZD are indexing haha
Thanks man! and no worries, glad it was helpful!
Many thanks for this, I learned a lot! Subbed
Every day I cry when I watch fixed gear videos because the local bike market here is terrible and basically dead especially when it comes to fixed gear and track bikes ☹️
Might be a good opportunity for you to open a fixed focused shop in your market! Go for it! There should always be a good outlet for those brakeless wild cats
so relaxing
Love your videos! Peep the Janoskis too, I wish they hadn't discontinued them. Theyre slowly bringing them back but without all the options and clean styling.
Cheers man! Yeah was gutted when they stopped them, haven’t really checked out the new ones yet but I better go do that. Just been rocking my old pairs for years, still going strong haha
@@waveywheelies Same! I have a few pairs that I baby whenever I wear them so I can make them last. The newer pairs sell out quick so hopefully you’re able to snag some!
You should check out those avid FR-5 brake levers, around $10 for one but they're amazing and I strongly recommend them.
cool video as always. cheers man
Thank you man!
5:40: don't thighten the non-drive side (even if only manually) before thightening the drive side with the appropriate tools.
And ream the BB shell first...
Love watching things I don't have
Ufffff , nice build
Nice ass seat post! Good build
Thanks yo!
Damn i love your videos so much!!!
Thank you😊✌️
It's funny how someone's "tight" budget, for the simplest of all the bikes,is someone else's almost monthly salary,in one of those less developed countries! Almost 😁
Great build,btw! 😊
You know that he really loves her when he puts frontbrake
Love these builds and the pricing breakdown as well! I know you said this one is for your gf, but do you typically put these up for sale or are you building them for specific people?
Thanks!! A lot of them are personal builds that I keep, but like this one I occasionally build some for other people and occasionally sell a few too
@@waveywheelies that’s great! If only we didn’t live on different continents, I would totally harass you to build me one too haha. Instead you’re inspiring me to try a conversion myself. The biggest challenge I’m seeing is knowing what size I need for all the random parts like bottom brackets, chain rings, headsets, etc. Any tips for that?
I need one of these in my life.....I'm running my Colnago super as a single speed but something dedicated would be way better....not sure I have the surly attitude tho 😉...
If you’re not sure if you have the Surly attitude, you do. Go for it! We’re a friendly bunch 🤘🏼
go for it!
I would’ve put at least 32c tires if not bigger. Besides that looks great!
Nice video, nice frame! Enjoying when watching!
Think steam roller frame have a low bb position, if ya rolling on wide platform flat pedals with straps...
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the tip, that’s why I went for 165 cranks!
🔥
✌️
Perfect!
The fact you built it up for your girlfriend is really sweet
Anyways still love the vid
Thanks!
damn this build is lit because of how clean everything is.
Thanks yo!
Always support u bro
Thanks bro✌️
love how this is doble my budeget
The build cost of this bike is almost the cost of a new bike here in our country (depending on the brand of course), but still a cheap Surly build indeed!
Awesome 👍🌟
Thanks!!
I really want a Surly frame
Get one!
Interesting that you went with plastic pedals. I've always found that the body brakes around the axle over time, especially on a fixie. Cool bike though, love the color!
Thanks! Yeah they aren’t for everyone, I’ve been riding plastic bmx pedals for years. They are really solid, and yet to break on me! If you get a good branded bmx set they’ll last you a long time
I’m enjoying the bike so far czcams.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
Nice!
Thanks!
Lovely build, but I prefer the frame without the decals. Haha. 😁
Thank you, and fair enough!
Bro $10 for a brand new chain!? I just paid 5 times that for one from a bike shop for my single speed! Dammmm...
what chain did you buy? They do range from around nzd$10-$100+. A $50 will be a decent one for sure!
Essas bikes fixas são muuuuuuuito top 👍💯
Fuckin love steamrollers!!! Just can never find them!
Nice! Straps with tall pedal pins might be a bit sketchy.
Thanks! and yeah, these luckily aren't supper grippy like metal pins so its not too bad
I wish this comming February 30 my birthday i got my first ever fix gear bike
Sana all
Кайф! Спасибо за приятную картинку )
So cool bro from Philippines
Thanks bro!
Perfeita!
The first thing that strikes me is .. after I've been building bicycles for 10 years (most of them fixed gear), it doesn't seem strange to me that there is no freewheel and no second brake XD
For people who plan to build a new bike for themselves:
It has to be said that for some parts (these will not reduce the price even further), it makes no difference whether they are bought new or used. These include (in Germany) seatpost, handlebar (someone ALWAYS sells a riser near you). However, good, new bike grips make a big difference.
And I think it's important to pay attention to sealed bearings. Pedals, bottom bracket, headset, axles. It is better to spend a little more on it, but you save yourself buying a new one for many years because the bearings are rough.
Even if some offers seem tempting cheap, check what it is beforehand. Possibly a "cool, old Italian frame" for little money, but the necessary parts are so rare and expensive due to their dimensions that you don't just wait forever to find something suitable, but also pay exorbitant prices for them.
So make sure you have the usual measurements on your first bike.
Otherwise, as always a great video :)
Cheers man! and thanks for the tips
How are the Surly frames? My local bike shop carries them and was looking at a decent steel frame for a new build its between that or an all city one atm but don't have experience with either.
cool
✌️
All city Cranksets are underrated, had them on my bike before my Omniums, barely noticed a difference in stiffness
All city is under rated period imo
I would have bought inexpensive MTB pinned flat pedals off Amazon over the cheap plastic pedals in your build. Then you could have skipped the nylon foot straps.
I would have went with slightly nicer pedals that actually have decent bearings and would spin a little easier. Other than that, flip that stem. Great video. Love my Steamroller! I know she will as well!
Thank you!! Yeah, steamrollers are awesome frames!
❤️🔥 how much is it?
sweet build! my preference, would have changed the cogs to a 17T
Thanks man!
hi, a colossi cheeko frame with surly fork what you think ?
Who mounts a front brake lever on the right?
Very cool video..... what are the song list in the video?
Thank you! They are made by a friend of mine for my videos!
Lucky girlfriend!
What lube/grease did you use for the build?
Doooope
The song track at the end, someone please tell me the name? 🙏🏻❤️
is the brake on the rim or the tire?
Do you think people will be more eager to steal it if they see the surly brand?
Good question. I’d say most likely yes, mainly because if it’s un branded they wouldn’t know what it is. Quite a few people remove the branding from surly or similar bikes for that exact reason.
Is every bike's fork that you build have a expander?
Steel and aluminium usually have star nuts and carbon forks will have expanders
Fixie? You hate her that much? :)
At least she'll look great.
Haha!!
What’s the BB spindle length?
Super dope as always! Only thing I would have changed would be adding a single white spacer in the headset stack or using white brake cable housing instead of black.
That would look slick too. I wonder how much of this was preferred by the builder’s partner. I’m sure they discussed aspects like cable housing colour.
Thank you man!
What is the model headset press that you’re using?
It’s a lifeline one similar to x-tools I believe
niceee …
✌️
Frame size.?
What is the size of thisbike?
Rear break?
No, just a front in this one
