Are the manes braded on these horses or what is it called?
The manes are hogged as these are artillery horses and need to be quickly released from the limbers pulling the guns it stopped their manes getting caught in the reins
Their manes are hogged to prevent them catching in the reins when they are taken off the gun carriages
@@kathellison8084…Actually when the gun team drivers get on and off their horses to fire a salute. They vault on and off to save time, as time was once of the essence.
This MOD Policewoman is absolutely Brilliant.
She’s the SAS of the MOD Police.
She takes No Messing from Tourists .
If only the MOD trained all their officers to her standards the Guards wouldn’t have to put up with idiots.😂
I agree, she is wonderful. I love how she looks after both the troopers and the horses with a keen eye.
@@tc5654 Also she Never forgets the Polo Mints for the Beautiful Horses😂
@charlie4739:She loves the horses, and the horses love her right back.
John-it is different when you redirect tourists. You are present at the King’s Guard so often that you are a part of its fabric. The American tourist has no business getting her nose out of joint. She is merely a guest and is certainly not knowledgeable about the rules and customs there. She is definitely a “Karen,” while you are a gentleman helping to upstanding the customs within the guard and ensuring that tourist treat the soldiers and horses with the respect and dignity they deserve. I am stunned that so few people say “thank you.” Even though the soldiers are trained not to respond, their ears certainly work. Part of being respectful, at least in my mind, is thanking them for the work that they do and allowing strangers to observe them and interact with the horses. I have not been to the UK, but when I do, I will certainly be more polite than the Americans I watch on your channel. I truly appreciate that you share knowledge with your viewers and give us good chuckles along the way.
John, by I do like your videos most especially because of your commentary & bits of information. My daughter is a tour director, usually of teenagers, & before bringing them to Horse Guards, gives very specific instructions to them on what is acceptable & what not & that these are trained soldiers, not just an attraction. On one of her tours recently, when a trooper came out one of the Guards spoke to him & he called my daughter over & said the Guard asked him to tell her he so appreciated the respect her group showed. Why can’t all do this I wonder? I am in Johannesburg, South Africa & was so pleased by this.
Thanks for mentioning me in your video yesterday. I like to help as much as I can, it's something different to what I normally do with the military and it's a lot of fun, especially with the help of your superb videos.
Sometimes I think the horses get overwhelmed with so many people around, especially if they get too close.
They do look smart!
I have watched other CZcams channels but hope it’s okay to say, I prefer your channel because you speak to us and getting to know Central London on foot. A plus for me.
Thank you John
John the horse in the right hand box gave such a look when the gentleman touched him as if to say ‘excuse me did you just touch me’
I agree. And he didn’t care for the wife one bit either, not that I blame him/her. We don’t know what they are yet.
I know these horses are smaller but they are very beautiful and still big.
It was so cute when the little boy waved and said “bye” to the horse.
The horses are so beautiful and chill.
Beautiful horses
I know that I've said it many times before in your videos but I absolutely appreciate your videos, commentaries and intellect and, of course, your brilliant humor!! Have a good day John! Also, I've learned so much!
I'll say it again, love the uniforms and such different mounts.
Talking to a friend, we would love to see them on duty over Christmas, especially if there's snow.. how magical it would be
Very good to see the King's Troop Gunners and beautiful horses today. Thanks, John! ❤😊
Yes, that was a beautiful sight, of the six police horses. With the arrival of the Gunners there certainly is a feeling of softness and gentleness. Adorable baby bays. Awful shock. Thank goodness both are all right. Lovely video. Thank you John
Good Sunday morning to you John and fellow watchers! Be blessed!
Hi john, just seen you in buskas video in your Sun hat.i feel sorry for that girl she needs help. ❤
Blessed day from here in Martin Tennessee

Good evening to all. I’m watching late today.
The Majestic Beauty on the right hand box.
I love the way he/she keeps moving their lips, as to be speaking to everyone❤😊
I'm sure this is the same horse as last year. He was nodding his head, does it here to in one of Buskas videos, he looked like he was bopping along to music..

Yes, I was thinking that too, as if to say, Skip to My Loo❤😊
Hello John 😊From what I’ve read about the horses in reference to the smaller ones, the Queen preferred the horses from a breeder or stables from a specific place in Ireland and they were to be 16 hands. That is what she wanted so I imagine that’s why there’s such a difference. I love the big black beautiful horses but they are all beautiful as well. ❤
The black ones are Irish draughts and they are a working breed.
@@carolzippel5021The cavalry blacks have Thoroghbred sires with Irish Light Draft Mares.
The Ministry of Defense has bought horses from Ireland and selected breeders for more than a century and the Queen actually had nothing to do with it, practically speaking.
Horse artillery have traditionally been almost any colour (except grey) and the King’s Troop have had bays since before the Queen’s reign.
Similarly the Household Cavalry have had blacks since the 1800s.
The Cleveland Bay is the breed for this unit. I refuse to tell you why because until you do your own research, you don’t believe me. Have a blessed day.
@@grannygoes I don’t know why you think I wouldn’t believe you. I appreciate your knowledge if you care to share. I only stated what I had read. 😊
@@grannygoes Cleveland Bays are NOT used for the King’s Troop.
They ARE used at the Royal Mews as dual purpose ride and drive.
My husband was in the King’s Troop for ten years, ending with both military and civilian riding instructor qualifications, then we lived and he worked at The Royal Mews for almost twenty years, as he broke and trained the young horses.
I visited the Animal Defence Center in Melton Mowbray in April and spoke to a Staff Sergeant, who told me she was shortly due to visit Ireland with this year’s purchasing committee as she was a vet technician.
I love your narration, which is why this is my favorite channel. I’ve learned so much. Thank you! ❤️
Love watching your videos and British accent! Can’t believe already over a month that I was in the Uk. Just love it. Hope to go back again some day ❤
Thanks for a great day! Very exciting to see the Gunners arrive with their 😊beautiful bays! Along with the fantastic police horses! Love that you educate and give us some entertainment …always respecting the horse guards and their mounts!
I just discovered your channel! Thank you for your videos, they are the best. 👍
I like your walks, your explanations and that you talk to people. You have such a positive attitude.
Greetings from Germany. 🙋♀
The lady in green monopolizing the horse is the one who was previously asked to move, lol. I do wonder why, in the age of smartphones where you can either do a short video or take multiple snapshots in seconds, does it take people so long to get a photo sometimes.
Got to get her right side!!!
How many sides has she got ?😁

Don't care for people but I do love the horses
Thanks John, another great CZcams video about London, the Horse Guard, and the beautiful horses of Kings Troop.
I can only speak for myself, but I’d much rather visit the horse guard than the palace. Just saying, lol. 😅
I do love the names of the horses popcorn and burrito
Don't know the proper term. To address this unit of female troopers. They are with the horses magnificent sight to behold. I do find their approach with tourists very subtle. I do miss the no nonsense Blue Royals and nipping Guard Horses. Thanks! John for always providing the wonderful highlights and asking the questions. Luv your cheeky humor. I mean that with the utmost resoect. Well done!❤️💂♀️🐴🇬🇧
They are a Unit of Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery. They are ceremonial firing guns salutes at various Royal Occassions. About half female I think. The lowest rank are Gunners
Thank you! I get a little overwhelmed. By all the military regiments.👍👍💂♀️🇬🇧@maggiemadwestiemum
@@paradiseana7634That makes two of us.
Ok John, when they are to be on the streets of London, they are trucked in to Hyde Park barracks from their base in Woolwich. Still searching units ranks.
Ladies and Gents: please research the history of the Cleveland Bay horse breed before damaging your tongue. Queen Elizabeth II had a great deal to do with saving the breed by assigning them to this troop.
The King’s Troop was formed in 1946 by her father. She declared after his death that in his honor the name would remain.
Thanks for the info. I researched a bit myself after your comment and read about the Cleveland Bays bred at Royal Mews for this group. Some obviously are the larger front horses in the teams but I was confused by the center and wheelers on the teams that are 15.3 hands and 15.2 respectively. Are they crosses that look like the pure Cleveland Bays. In any event the Cleveland Bays are simply wonderful horses and very a versatile breed. I have seen a few and am an admirer.
@@janedeclarico5920 Dear @grannygoes, I have in fact researched Cleveland Bays and am in no danger of damaging my tongue. I am very familiar with Cleveland Bays as I lived with them - my husband worked at the Royal Mews for twenty years breaking and training them. He was also in the King’s Troop and knew perfectly well where the gun horses came from - Ireland. I have also spoken with many of the riding instructors in both the King’s Troop and the Household Cavalry - Cleveland Bays are NOT used in the Household Division, except for possibly as an officer’s charger.
The Royal Mews horses are used to pull the Royal carriages and as outriders in Royal processions and have nothing to do with the Army horses. The Queen bred her own Cleveland Bays at Hampton Court Stud for decades and the Duke of Edinburgh used to compete with a team of home bred horses.
If you visit the Cleveland Bay Society website , you will see no mention at all in their gallery of horses used in the Army. Moreover white marking are strongly discouraged in this breed, whereas many of the gun horses have white markings on face and stocking. They are a very different stamp of horse.
If you check this website, you will see it notes, under a picture of a small, stocky bay team , that “Nearly all the army’s horses are bred and purchased in Ireland.” See www.britishempire.co.uk/forces/rhakings1980.htm#google_vignette
@@janedeclarico5920 The Royal Mews does not breed Cleveland Bays for the Army. This first hand from the coachmen there.
What a gorgeous horse really a different color than I’ve seen
Thank You John For Explaining About The Different Military Troopers. Have a great Sunday John.
the uniforms are fantastic
I would love to see this small horse next to Ormond or one of the taller black horses!!! Have a great day. It’s very hot and humid here in Alabama. 😊😊😊😊😊

Glad to see nobody is “manhandling” these horses like they do the big black one! I should say mailing them. Lol
KING'S TROOP are great professionals.🤗❤ We want to see them more often. 🤠Many greetings from the Czech Republic
I bet their winter order cloaks are black ones, with gold braid. Will be gorgeous.
John has the kings red and blue gone for there lovely😊 time at the lovely Norfolk coast having a lovely time in in sea I do love to watch the horses and troopers enjoying themselves anther great 👍 video you always make it enjoyable and interesting it’s nice to see the new troopers they are so gentle 😅
Ilove that that siren officer stopped the siren while driving past! At just after the hour mark 😊
The handsome Black Male gunner is to tall to ride that small horse. I am 4"11" that is my kind of horse. As an American my money that rude entitle women is American. I love "get a better tour guide" You are entertaining ..
Why oh why do people keep wanting to pet the horses when is plainly obvious that the horse doesn’t want to be touched. Maybe it’s about time the rules state no touching!!!!
Lmao 🤣 u can talk to animals ? 🤣 is that what the horse told u 😳
It’s not a petting zoo am I right?
Animals give body language movements. When the horse bucks his head , ears pointed back, movement of its head, moving about in and out of the box, and stomping his leg.
@judithvigorito4548 lmao 🤣 no they don't there stomping their leg to get the flies off u clearly never been around a horse 🤣

Good morning, John. Though these Guards and Hourses are Beautiful, but I already miss the Lifes Guards and the Horses.
I miss them as well, but they deserve a holiday, and besides, they will be back soon! It's nice to see the King's Troop for a change : )
Too bad you didn't see her very "gracious" hand gesture. Her baffled look that everybody ignored her was priceless😂
I noticed that the Gunners hold the sword at the carry position right through their shift. The Gateswoman gave the woman a super side eye as she walked past her. No helmets shows their faces more and they are very smiley. Nice.
I sub. to several channels and their lack of narration does not bother me in the slightest. Thanks John for Pts 1 and 2. kiwi 😃
I noticed in someone else’s video that during inspection time one of the horse’s saddle pads had been put on backwards 🤣. The horses in this regiment are so beautiful and small compared to the kings guard horses. They look so sporty ❤
Great video as always!
Ayyyyaaayy - shoes on cobbles, so slippery. Makes me nervous. 😬
Thank you, I always enjoy your videos! These are beautiful horses and so different than the others. Glad that one that fell is ok.
23:15 No John, not Christmas. The dates are 25 Nov to 8 Dec, according to Changing Guard website that lists all the schedules.
20:42 John, rank structure is identical throughout the armed forces. Three stripes denote a sergeant.
The gold spur on the right shoulder denotes a riding instructor.
I don't know about these artillary gunners, but there is no such rank as "sergeant" in the Lifeguards and Blues and Royals regiments. Three stripes in those denote the rank of "Corporal of Horse." It is the equivalent rank to sergeant elsewhere in the armed forces.
Edit • John is very knowledgeable about the rank structure of H Cav personnel.
@@monicawarner4091 Yes, I know about Corporals of Horse. John said at that time marker he would have to look up what three stripes meant in the King’s Troop; I was replying to that.
Good Morning John....happy Sunday last day of June....hope things don't get to crazy ...be safe.

I don't really enjoy the other channels all that much. Mostly because they don't talk at all. It's boring, to be honest. You have lively conversation and are very funny, it works well with your videos.
Why did this take so llong to load? Love seeing Kings Troop again a great video John
Hi John where do kings troop reside .they seem small compared to our normal guards an horses maybe it’s cause they are ladies that’s good if there back at Christmas gives the others a break ❤❤❤❤
Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery are based at Woolwich .
An interesting variety of wildlife in these vids. The horses are pretty cool as well😉

Thanks for t he great video! With watching the gunners and their horses they are well matched. The chitman(?) Looks smaller as well as the horses.
Thank you so much, John. You keep me hanging in here, brighten my day, well, 2050hrs Sunday evening here in Freo Western Australia 🇦🇺
Beautiful colour of horses.
Wonder what the gunnars think of this duty, being boxmen/women. So different from their usual routine, or the horse's.
2:33 Did I see in an earlier posting they'll be here at Christmas for 2 weeks, dividing the time?
So there it is: part two of last Friday 😊 thank you, John, and enjoy your Sunday!
I bet the lady with green bag had fruit in it. Horse wanted snack. The gunners seem to smile much more than the troopers
crazy !
Single chevron=Lance Bombardier. Dad was one during the war in the Royal Artillery.
Blessed Day John and All

John hope you are ok? The kings Troop horses seem to be a lot more contented than the lifeguards
Hi John the other big parade is Notting Hill Carnival but I don’t think it goes near Horse Guads
These horses look like pony’s compared to the royals and life guards horses ❤
Missing the beautiful black beauties 😍 Although the bays are gorgeous too but look so little 😍
John, how many languages can you speak? 😊
watching you now over a year , it still frightens me , when the parent , pushes the child to the horse
Beautiful horses! Which breed are they? The uniforms worn are very handsome. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
The horses are Cleveland Bays. I agree, they are stunning : )
They're not Cleveland Bay I'm afraid they are light Irish draft Thoroughbred mix . If you search through the comments above for the one by Roheryn 100 you find a full explanation .
John sometimes with the Blues and Royals you can see part of a red chevron at the top of the glove, I believe all troopers and N.C.O’s take a turn in ceremonial dress roles
Loving all the horses. I cannot work out the style of braid used for the troop's horses mane. If anyone knows please comment and tag me. Cheers!
@2051bumblebee - The manes are hogged not braided , it was done to prevent their manes catching on the reins when they were quickly unhitched from the gun carriages .
I love the artillery uniforms
Bloody hell, what was that guy taking photos of? 😂😂
RANKS: The Royal Artillery has the special rank of gunner below Corporal. 1 chevron =lance corporal 2=corporal 3=sergeant
There is a colour sergeant, 1 chevron with a staff extending upward with crossed cannon, the British flag, topped by the crown.
I like the handsome 7 footer best , lol
The only subscribe to your channel is because of your narration, and of course your humor. Your channel is educational!
I anticipate that you will get it sooner or later, but I am curious about the dismounts. Do the Kings troop dismount differently from the other guards?
Oh oh a horse that might have been here before...and remembers the rude people...
John it's a Busby not a hat. 😂
I love there uniforms but prefer the h cav horses like ormonde and q10
I wonder how they decide whether to wait at the end of the tunnel or to go directly back. Personal preference? Do they have a routine/schedule they have to keep and may have more time some days than others? Just curious.
I notice they have Corporals (Bombadier)and Lance corporals Lance Bombadier on the horses. The NcO who came out front with the change I think is a staff sergeant 3 chevrons and a crown
Fist, love your commentary on your videos😍😍I know this is not your field of expertise😀, but what is the (3:04) white robe around the houses neck called?
A white rope I would think!! Sorry, Aussie humour 😊
I would call it a 'lead rope' which is attached to a halter. Whenever I went on a ride I would have the halter & lead rope under the bridle so that if I stopped for a rest I could tie my horse
up using such, as I was taught that you NEVER use the reins to tie up. Reason. The reins are attached to the bit. If the horse pulls back it will injure its mouth. If that makes sense.
That is most likely why a lot of the troopers & gunners don't like to yank the reins out of the idiots oops tourists hands unless there is no other way to get the message across
@@NesleyPorter Thank you for your reply😊, I know what the rope (ROBE; my bad spelling, hate it when I do that😁) is used for, A hundred years ago I trained horses. My question is what do the KING'S TROOP call it. Sorry I should have been more descriptive in my question.
