Aren't there therapy to get or groups to go to in Germany? I'm from Denmark and we can some therapy and some groups related to sexual addiction. I'm just starting in group therapy myself. I'd assume there was something similar in Germany. I send you sympathy and love:) There's a way out, and it's never too late. You are not alone:)

Hello. Sorry, we currently only list UK-based professionals. Have you tried searching for 'counsellor near me' in your search engine? This should bring up the options available to you in your area.

A therapist from counselling directory recommended that I visited an escort, this unfortunately led to sex addiction. Unfortunately a lot of people don't acknowledge sex addiction, it's so numbing and isolating. Best way to describe it to someone who doesn't understand is it's similar to other addictions in the sense of just "One more glass" of wine or whatever. With sex addiction it can be just taking a peak at a site because you're curious, or just visiting an escort because you found an online article stating that it's healthy, and before you know it you've relapsed, if you give it an inch it takes a mile. People who are lonely and isolated are most susceptible to it, it's so dark I have tried committing suicide because of this. Seeing escorts should not be therapeutic advice it's ruined my life financially and socially.

Sorry to hear this. Have you reported this therapist to their professional body?

@@Happiful I am in the process of doing that, it's deeply saddening when the therapeutic relationship breaks down. I told her in multiple sessions that I was spending far too much money on it and sometimes it made me feel suicidal, I was using it as a coping mechanism for the way I was feeling, at the time it was hard to see that I believe I was in the precontemplation stage of addiction, I would of never of went down that route unless told by a mental health professional. No reviews or goals were set in therapy, I had been seeing this therapist for over half a year, it just felt like they were happy to watch my demise with this. We're all human, I am not annoyed by the suggestion, but I am annoyed that they provided no help when things got out of control for me with it. Escorts will try to get their clients to fall in love with them so they can get the most money out of them, I lost thousands, client's in therapy are seen as vulnerable people, it's insanity that a therapist would ever suggest this to a client. The physical risk and the mental risk far outweighs the potential benefits, prostitution is legal in the UK to protect working girls, it's not legal because it's seen as something to be used in a therapeutic way.
I don't have the energy to spend my time putting a case together to report this therapist, I just want to get better and feel happy, I was a lot better before doing therapy, I would of never went down this path unless advised by a mental health professional. Reality is anyone can be a therapist and the dangers of therapy is never spoken about properly, as a client I felt very receptive to what my therapist was saying.

sex is not addictive in the same way as drugs or alcohol .it is not a thing in the DSM

    • @Happiful

That's true - however, the DSM-5 is a US publication. Clinicians in the UK will typically refer to the ICD system, in which case, compulsive sexual behaviours are noted. You're right though in that it isn't considered an addiction in the same way as substance abuse or alcohol - it is in fact characterised as an impulse control disorder: icd.who.int/browse11/l-m/en#/id.who.int/icd/entity/1630268048
