      It's actually not too hard to do a growl or scream. The hard part is finding a way to make these noises in a healthier way, and with less risk of vocal fatigue or injury.
      A fry scream built from Khöömei will always be safer and healthier than a fry scream built from falsetto, and an exhale-based scream will always be safer than an inhale-based scream (can't say healthier because there isn't enough research in that area of ingressive phonation)
      Please note that no form of vocals/singing are 100% safe, because our bodies just aren't built to produce these noises.

    The one technique that helped me a lot with doing gutturals well every vocal technique besides the highs, was Mongolian throat singing, it helped me how to breathe and use my diagram properly. Then I started listening to every band that had those deep lows like Whitechapel and Vulvodynia, if anything I can do slam vocals better since I love slam. I learned Mongolian throat singing for about a month, then once I could cover a whole Mongolian song in one take, I moved on to doing vocal covers. I can do gutturals, tunnelling, false and my favourite one the pig squeals. I learned all of this while at my job since I had a ton of time to myself which is why I learned quickly. I always have ice cold by my side when I do vocal covers.

    Hmm I tried doing gutturals during this tutorial and managed to learn a different growl. I have no idea which one it is and I thought it sounded cool and so did others. So after a month I think or more of doing that I forgot all about gutturals and learned another growl which also sounded cool. Im pretty proud of myself lol and I have practicing screaming and growling fir 9-11 months. Makes me realize that all the time and dedication was worth it. Now here I am back to this tutorial and now I think I might be able to do it. Ill wait till tomorrow since my parents are asleep. Also thanks for the tips Austin. (: I hope you reply to this and if you dont its fine. You Jared and other youtubers relly helped me learn how to scream and growl. I can now hold my growls longer than before and I dont get light headed either. I learned how to breath from my diaphragm as well. Id say that you and Jared helped me the most with these tutorials. I thank the both of you so much. :)

    • @BoDiJyPz
      @BoDiJyPz Před 9 lety

      Also Id suggest to try doing different tongue placement for different sounds. One I really like and use the most is to use the middle/back of my tongue and put it to the roof of my mouth kinda far back in my my mouth. Its not an amazing sounding guttural, but it does make a different sound, and it makes it so much easier to pronounce words. All other guttural techniques make it really hard for me to pronounce words, except maybe tunnel throat, but Im not sure if I do that right.

    Ok I been practicing my screams for a couple years now and finally got my highs pretty damn good. But my question is how much of the volume of a scream is relied on by the mic? Obviously you're not gonna deafen a room without a mic but just how quiet are your screams without using a mic? I'm afraid of trying to push too much to get the necessary volume and end up doing more damage than good.

    When I do my low false chord screams they sound quite different to yours. I'm not sure what the cause is, because we both use the false chord technique, but I think it has something to do with the openness of your throat. My screaming is heavily influenced by Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, so I consequentially try to sound like him, whereas I feel like you have a more "modern" vibe with the tone and your throat technique.

    I used to be pretty decent at it but stoped practicing and now can't do anything low like my Adams Apple just wants to go up. I have a low speaking and singing voice and good mids and hights

    I've been teaching myself how to scream for the last month. I feel like I'm making great progress. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to hit those extreme highs. When I try to narrow my vocal cords to hit those highs I feel like I'm hitting a wall. I cant go any higher. Is that something I just need to keep working on? One of my friends who used to scream for a band, told me I should practice talking like a girl, to get my vocal cords used to being that narrow, and gradually increasing volume and air flow. Is that right? I'd appreciate any tips!

      Idk bro but i do highs by holding my breath and opening my mouth wide when i just ate or drunk something that gets stuck in my throat, this way it's easier to make a high scream, it's cheating you can say but it works i guess, but it's not professional so try watching vocal coaches videos on CZcams and learn more about mouth shape and brathing techniques and how to keep your throat hydrated, also warming up can help i guess.

    Hey, Austin. My name is Austin. Haha. This really helped me out, dude. Thanks a lot, just.. When I try to do lows, I sound like a try hard carnifex. It sounds stupid & strange. Any tips?
    And also, i think it's ironic how you & jared when my best friends name is Jared & we're trying to get into the music stuff.

      Yes! I've gotten a lot of requests to cover the more basics of starting out like getting a sound projection duration and warm ups. I will be doing a video for them soon or you can add me on facebook and I will help you out that way!!

      Don't push or tense so hard. When they sound throaty usually it means you are constricting your throat too much so be lenses tense in a sense try less haha. Hope that helps.
