(If you need an example of what I mean, check out "You Know You're Right", "Scentless Apprentice", and "Tourette's".) I'd love to see your take on punk rock/noise rock screams!!!! Hey Austin, I am having so much trouble getting the high scream that is a foundation to this type of sound. Is it a fry or false chord? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do false chord high screams.
Nik Davis the witch one is def more false chord based because it’s mostly your actual voice and you add the raspy sound to that volume. You can do them fry I actually think fry tunnel vocals sound more inhuman than false chord, they aren’t as loud but you get wayyyy more control and less voice when you do fry so it sounds more evil than the wya I do it but the false chord version gives you volume and it makes your sound stand out because it has the uniqueness of your voice to it rather than a fry sound that for most people sounds the same.

Austin, I’m having issues getting to a false chord high to begin with. My lows are.. okay. I’m a beginner, but they’re getting better. But when I try to push my lows up to a high, it just sounds like really dumb mids. Is there any fry in you false chord highs? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😂
Seth Shumaker it sound to me like you are trying to hit your high in your low register which will result in a higher tone mid, to achieve the actual false chord high you have to utilize your soft pallet, The noise needs to switch from where your lows are (think Adam’s apple and under area) and go higher in your mouth to you soft pallet. You do this by easing up and tensing your throat less, some people think the higher scream need a narrow passage but that’s not true for false chords you let that air pass with little resistance just enough to get some grit and you form the sound by it bouncing between you soft pallet and nasal passage you can manipulate the tone easier there by raising your facial features ex. Raising up your eyebrows, opening your mouth wide and flairing your nostrils to make an easier air flow to your soft pallet. Try those out I hope it helps find it better!
