What Happened at the Council of Ephesus?

  • The beginning of the 5th century was a turbulent time for the Roman empire. There were constant invasions and sackings of the western half of the empire. The east was relatively stable throughout that time, although the largest divisions happened to be in matters of theology. During these times, Christianity remained strong even when its adherents had been undergoing so much change. The ecclesiastical rivalries and the political rivalries would eventually lead to the council of Ephesus in 431. Why did it happen? What were the christologies being defended and how did it all end? Today, we answer these questions and more as we discuss the Council of Ephesus.

Thank you for sharing the video, very balanced. I am from the church of the east which accepted the teaching of Saint Nestor, just wanted to say something when all churches offers the "Oblation" what they say , this is the body of "Christ" not God. This is what we believe.

I know this video is three years old, but at 6:42 I noticed a critical error. St. Cyril and the entirety of the east for that matter, did not define hypostasis as “person”. Hypostasis is a particular instance of an essence.

And when GOD will say: O jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to people: take my mother and me, for two gods beside God? He will say: be glorified it was not mine to utter that to which i had no right. If i used to say it, then, you knew it. You know what is in my mind, and i know not what is in your mind. (Quran. 5:116)

If you had understood the ayah you just quoted you would have left islam a long time ago. Here is allah whom muslims believe is all-knowing god misunderstanding The Doctrine Of The TRINITY, No Christian Believes in Three gods(isa, mary and allah), in fact, no one in history ever believed what the quran stated. so much for the all-knowing allah, allah of the quran proves himself to be a fraud.
