    • @2NDFLB
      @2NDFLB Před 4 lety +14

      *
      They should make a
      SYPHON FILTER ZERO
      A Prequel
      where you play as Gabe Logan when he's like 87 years old and is slow and whatnot.....in the beginning...
      I was initially gonna make a joke with this, but this would actually work in a metroidvania style game.
      Start weak, and then get upgrades, like a walker and then roller skates and then eventually a hover board.
      But do it for syphon filter zero too,
      Just cuz it makes NO sense for gabe to be older, when it's a prequel.
      Imagine being a game developer and someone asks you about that
      "Inconsistency", you could pretend like you don't understand the concept or time or something.
      ..
      I crack myself up.
      I'm gonna stuff a dollar between my own toes . They're not gonna tip themselves.

    My dad used to play this as I was growing up and I can’t tell what used to captivate me more anymore. I was born in 2002, so my dad had the full (at the time) trilogy.
    1. For SF2/SF3 I would always play disc 2, which is just the cutscenes. It frustrated me that my dad would skip the cutscenes and just go straight into gameplay. So I know I’m invested in the storyline.
    2. I’m a music kid and it hit a different spot in me to hear the music to each game. It was all so good. I could always tell apart the boss levels (before I learned that most of all boss levels are repeated) by the fact that there wasn’t a beat change when you were in danger, it was just one song being played throughout the mission.

    • @DfactorLongplays
      @DfactorLongplays  Před 2 lety

      Such design choices were often due to console limitations. Having dialogue during gameplay meant that it had to be loaded in and residing in console's RAM, consuming those precious resources. There are certainly other games that do it. You may even notice how in some games the "during gameplay" audio sounds more compressed than the rest, all due to the limitations.

  • @SolinOutlander
    @SolinOutlander Před 10 lety +25

    Always love looking back into the past of videogames. Interesting to see how games design has changed and evolved from back then.
    Interesting to note that apparently level design hadn't clocked onto the notion of realistic architecture yet. The cathedral, for instance, is just an oversized building full of rooms which serve no purpose, and is maze-like for the sake of being maze-like. Gabe comments on not having a way to the ground floor, yet clearly there must be a way, else all the goons and scientists wouldn't be up there themselves, because how would they get up there?
    Alas, back then, (being before Deus Ex, Rainbow 6 and I believe System Shock showed us that realistic architecture can still be fun gameplay), if players were told 'it's a cathedral' and the walls look remotely similar to how we'd expect a cathedral to look, we all just ignored the gamey architecture and play the game, whereas these days, try that and people would whine about unrealistic level design. Good or bad?

    Man this game brings back fond memories of countless hours spent on the first PlayStation. Love the fact that the time to complete your main objective didn’t change even when additional objectives were added out of nowhere, which gave the game an added level difficulty “on the fly.” For it’s time, game mechanics were tight and it gave you the three basic food groups that make a great game - platforming, puzzle solving and action. Dope!
