So glad you did this as I have som mica powders and I’ve only ever used them on my polymer clay so will be nice to use them another way. Wish I wasn’t on a no spend for the next 3 months though because the colours are gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️
Shiny Silver treasures thank you, glad you found it useful ... I have honestly barely scratched the surface of things you can do with mica Powders. A 3 month spending ban, means lots of stash busting 😍😍 xx
OMG!!! Been following you on IG and had no idea you had a channel!! I've been eyeing these powders for a while & thought I'd do some research on how to use them & came across your video. So happy to learn from you!!
I've heard about them from a few creatives but had no idea how they really were used or that they came in such a variety as you've shown. You've peaked my interest. TFS!!
Arteza mica powders need a binder using them with just water will not fix them to the paper. As soon as the water dries they will turn back into powder, smudge & fall off. You need to add something like gum Arabic to be able to use them like a watercolour. However, mixing them with paint, gesso, texture paste, glue, gel medium ect ect will work as they will adhere to each other & the paper.
Thank you , I have not had problems with pigment coming off when just using water .. however I have recently bought gum Arabic so I will be giving it a try x
@@JuliaMcNeillCrafts some mica powder comes pre mixed with binder but the arteza does not have any in it. The rangers Pearl powder , indigo blu, pretty gets gritty for example all do but a lot of others don’t. I was surprised when you didn’t have a problem with just the water 💧. Thanks for the reply.
You mentioned alcohol markers. I’m new to your channel and haven’t seen any other video just yet. I plan on blazing through, though (I watch art videos in all my free time haha)- but maybe you’ll get to this before I get through them! What alcohol markers do you prefer?
Great video. I have these same powders but haven’t used them. I purchased some gum arabica as a binder. I want use these for card making. Do you think I would need a spray fixative too? Also, what brand clear paste would you recommend? I’ve never tried this technique. Thank you.
Gum Arabic is the perfect binder & should be enough in my opinion. But with out it the arteza mica powders will fall off & smudge with just water as soon as the water dries. As for example indigo blu & magical powders already come with the binder pre mixed in the powders. Do some test pieces & see what you think about fixatives, if it is a really special piece of work it couldn’t hurt to give it a spray but be warned my fixative has a very strong smell & you need to do it outside or in a well ventilated area.
Purple_Goddess these are a pigment powder, so need some form of binder .. so for colouring you would maybe need ti mix them with waters to create watercolour paint. They won’t stick on their own they need something to bind too.
I would imagine that it depends on how you use them .. all the methods that I used on the video I used the powders to make other products .. ie watercolours, chalk paint, stencil paste e.c.t ... the only instance that I used them on their own was with the versamark ink pad .. that would act as a fixative too xx

When you put the powder on the clear versamark ink do you heat set them to stop the powder coming of? X
I’m a bit confused how these work, if they come out as powder. Can I leave them dry, and use them for background? I do adult coloring.

Love this as like Dawn I’ve only used mine with polymer clay thank you 😊 xxx
Michelle Dobbie thank you, glad you found it useful x
Can I use this to make calligraphy inks?
It’s not something I have tried .. You would need to know the ingredients of calligraphy inks & try mixing the elements together xx
