Why not? This is the same company that torpedoed Silent Hills despite the fantastic response to Kojima's Teaser, but thought Contra: Rogue Corps was worth bringing to the market. Selling the Metal Gear and Silent Hill IPs to Kojima would be a great move on their behalf.
@@SteelShroom256 That would be the ideal scenario ya. Though if anything, I don't think I'd mind Silent Hill going to Remedy if Kojima can't have it. With their work on Control, and Alan Wake especially, I honestly feel like they could make a pretty good Silent Hill game.

Konami is the prime example of corporate greed meets incompetence. And you know it's going to be basic employees that will meet the axe when things go down. Not the suits that forced it to happen.
Konami is so bad they make Nintendo look competent and consumer friendly.
I have little hope for Silent Hill 2 Remake.
The corporate greed IS the incompetence. Baulder's Gate 3 is immaculate because they didn't need to make ALL of the money. They just wanted to deliver the best theu could do and make a good return. It all goes to crap when investors want returns on other people's work and the "leadership" thinks of games as "products" and not as art for sale.
It's not necessarily incompetence, it's just going through the motions. IIRC their leadership changed prior to PT being cancelled, and the new management prioritizes Konami's other business (they do lots in Japan outside video games) over video games. I haven't paid much attention lately, but at the time the new guy was big into Pachinko but was otherwise a businessman with no experience or interest in video games, hence the cringe Pachinko spin-offs.
So it's not so much bad decisions, just a lack of interest. This decision was probably good business (no effort involved, they'll still make money just based on the name from people who don't know any better) and even if their gaming division does eventually fail, management doesn't really care because they make more money elsewhere.
Remember the days when Konami was loved dearly by the gaming community? Good times.
Back then Konami was a dream company that a lot of people that wanted to work at for a lot of people has turned into a hellish nightmare of a company that nobody wants to work for.
Well after our generations go, they will never came back t9 their former glory and fsded slowly as one of the most relevant gaming company anyway
@@sharpester7277i think that also applied to many big gaming companies like blizzard, ubisoft, bungie, etc. Back when they made a quality game.
@@joshuadaniel8508 I used to be so excited for Blizzard back in the day... playing Warcraft 1-3, Blackthorne, Diablo 1-2, Starcraft for several months on end. Emulation is the way. ;)
Knowing this is Konami, and knowing what they had previously done with the infamous Silent Hill HD collection, can anyone really, _truly_ be surprised that this happened at all? I feel like after more than 10 years we should've all just seen this coming and fully know this was going to happen.
Not even just Silent Hill, they also fucked up thje Zone of the Enders Collection, and only patched the 1st game and only on ps3, we had to wait years until Cygames made the solo remaster of 2 to play it properly. But then it was too late, I never bought it, never will, Konami can go fuck themselves.
You’d think they would at least learn from their mistakes, though.
Expecting Konami to be good is like expecting a drunk driver to drive safe
Nah, that's giving them too much credit. I expect more from a 1200lb drunk man riding a unicycle over a tightrope than Konami making a good product.
I absolutely love modders, seriously. I don't know anything about what it takes to create or port a videogame, so whenever something like this happens i'm very quick to think "Well, this is probably much more complicated than i think so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt" and then some random GigaChad shows up and does it himself.
spite is a great motivator (in the short term)
Creating something is different from what most modders do which is just adding or changing something that already exists
Konami will _never_ fail to disappoint

@@TheSoCalledZoner1you realise that would mean Konami is making good products, right?
You'd think they would treat Metal Gear with respect after the abomination that was Metal Gear Survive 🤔
Include Sega EA and y2k into that
"Sorry, this game is currently not available in your region." - the greatest blessing from Steam I've got so far, besides sales.
Lol you know you messed up when players are happy the game isn't available
Yeah nothing against Mori Calliope, she would be crazy not to take this opportunity, she said she didnt have much control over the project. Shes a pretty great streamer and is an upcoming voice actor as well outside of her music career. She doesnt really gloss over issues with the game, basically like "The game is bad? What!? Ugh. Well we'll play it anyways"
i honestly dont know how people like her music. it sounds so bad lol
Being a hololive fan, I didn't even know she was attached to the marketing until now. Pekora playing MGS and Korone doing Castlevania, think that Konami is using vtubers for an extended reach.
To be fair, if you stream a game only to be constantly complaining about how bad the game is, it wouldn't be much fun for the viewers.
Just look at how people react to the streams where the person streaming is just saying "this sucks, this is unfair, I hate this so much".
This collection has a lot of issues, but if you personally don't care that much about it, you can still have some fun with it.
It's not like the Silent Hill collection where there're bugs everywhere, things are rewritten and the new voice acting can be quite jarring.
Then again, the fact that they used a similar style for the marketing for both collections could be seen as a pretty big red flag.
I love how these companies take your money then release a statement 24 hrs before the game releases, saying there will be problems. Stop buying these games on day 1. Let them earn your money by "consistently" showing they will release a good product day 1. Otherwise, wait for the sale and the obvious patches and game fixes that will show up later.
Some people forget, the love that went into the metal gear solid games was from Hideo Kojima, now with only Konami running things, you can definitely expect poor choices that are the laziest options
its better in the hands of someone else, he F!@# up his own series.

I am the belief like others that Kojima wasn't the real brains behind mgs series. @@JackCrossSama I actually really enjoyed MGS4, though the cutscenes were rough. As far as I know from MGS5, Konami was actually cutting Kojima out of the loop and not letting him have the reigns like they did in the past. You're absolutely right. I picked up the legacy collection end of 2015 for 20 bucks new on Amazon. Still one of the best game purchases I've ever made.
Same here, those ports are well tuned to the PS3 and run good, going to hold onto mine as well especially since its getting up there in price
The collab with Calliope was harmless silly fun, though she knew it would divide fans (as she did not write the lyrics). Even Kojima watches Vtubers.
Taking into consideration what your getting before you pay for it now, The Metal Gear Solid Collection for those who are interested in purchasing it should only be purchased when it is on sale for between $20-$30 at most and not $60. Probably because it's Kojimas they dropped the ball on purpose
Even then, I honestly feel like Konami seems to be heading to the right direction compared to their output 3-4 years ago. The Castlevania, Contra, and TMNT collections are a homerun like you said. The Suikoden remasters look incredible. The rejuvination of Silent Hill with the new projects and remake is refreshing. Just a month ago, they also announced Contra Operation Galuga that seems like a return to form compared to the terrible Rogue Corps. Just today, they released a new trailer of Snake Eater remake that feels faithful to the original. It actually feels like Konami are at least trying.

@@blueflare3848 Yesh, that's exactly the expectation I would consider ridiculous. Konami just.doesn't.give.a.fuck! So expecting them to learn a lesson is the epitome of wishful thinking based on nothing else but ones own personal desires. Just because other companies like Capcom felt the need to change something about the way they approach things doesn't mean that the heads at Konami feel the same.
Also they did learn their lesson. The things it's a different lesson from what customers hope for. What Konami learned is that no matter how much you half-ass things, there will always be more than enough people to buy their crap.
This is not just a problem exclusive to Konami. For example recently Blizzard has been on a role in disappointing their customers, which lead to a huge amount of Backlash be it with Diablo Immoral, Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2. Gamers and all those drama influencers give Blizzard hell for this. But you lnow what many are giving Blizzard at the same time? Their money.
Gamers think that all those negative Metacritic scores are gonna lead to an magic change of course for the company. That that's the takeaway here. But what any company that puts profits first takes away from here is "we can make a huge profit by milking this idiots and all it will cost us is a Metacritic score that means nothing". It's not the companies that are supposed to learn a lesson here. It's the customers who make the wrong vote with their wallet.
Our expectations were low but holy shit.
I'm just emulating it on my PC. But I'm disappointed that I can't get the face button pressure sensitivity feature on my PS5 controller.
The mistake was thinking that Konami actually cared. If you want a MGS collection by people that actually care, get the emulators, get the roms and enable 4k with AA with unlocked framerate and fixed widescreen. (only stretches the ui) and that will be a much better version of the game than Konami will ever put effort into.
I'm perpetually perplexed when folks express astonishment over a lackluster release from Konami. This company has dwindled considerably from its past glory. To deem those who harbored hopes for a quality product as somewhat gullible would be a rather charitable assessment. It's time to awaken, dear people!

B-but suikoden remaster and silent hills games...
So disappointing considering Konami's Castlevania, Contra and TMNT collections were done with so much care, passion and attention 😢
We're they done specifically by Konami? Or did they get another studio to make those ones?
@devilwarr1or great question and I think that might solve the question- the Castlevania and Contra collections were co-done by a company called M2 and the TMNT collection was by Digital Eclipse. I guess when you leave it to just Konami by themselves they don't care at all
i still dont have SoTN on steam, they suck
Yes very disappointing. What are these companies doing putting out this garbage
That was M2. Not Konami.
I don’t really understand all the fuss over the specs. They were never advertised as remasters. Plus, I think the resolution and frame rates give it that “classic” feel to these games. Playing MGS1 on the PS5 for the first time and I’m really digging it. I never got the chance to play it on the original system so I think it’s neat!
I can't use the sonar on the mgs3 for nintendo, anyone know why?
Never thought I'd see Mori on here but here we are.
I think it's almost irrelevant that they collabed with her. The song doesn't fit the game but fits the artist.
But with the issues and Kojimas name still out of the credits, it makes me think Konami is still the same old and makes me scared about the future of Delta and SH2.
The reason I say its irrelevant is because I think it's just an ad for the game using a popular media, that being Hololive. As a fan of both, I found it really interesting. It should have no effect on the quality of the game. If the games were running fine, nobody would be talking about the collab.
Well, people would still be talking about it, but it'd be mostly limited to Calli's fans/haters.
And hey, at least Calli finally got permission to play the game on stream? Demonstrated some of the bugs in the PC version too. heh.
Yeah, the Calli-haters would still make a stink about it, and poor Calli found out firsthand how bad this "port" is. Unfortunately, in order to really make it in the music industry in Japan, stuff like this is basically required, and at least she finally got the perms to play it at all (something which Pomu didn't have any issues with; fame definitely has its drawbacks).
I'm still of the opinion that Pomu should have gotten the collab off her sheer fangirl energy but it is what it is
@@ironboy3245 I don't know who that is but I can agree there were probably better choices for collabs.

Add this to a list of franchises I would have liked to play with modern conviences and hardware, along with Warcraft 3, but couldn't due to the incompetence of publishers and simply messing up a basic thing.
I remember when I got the legacy collection for ps3 about 10 years ago. Still holds up great.
Iv still got it, my fav collection 👌🏻
I'm shocked.
Not at Konami, but at the people who really expected the bare minimum of quality from Konami.
Honestly, I don’t blame people for giving them the benefit of the doubt. After ten years of lying dormant, you would think Konami would take the time to learn from their mistakes. That they would come back strong so they can redeem themselves and win back their player base, kind of like what Capcom did with RE7 and everything after. You would think that Konami would be able to handle a remaster. It’s easier than remaking a game from the ground up or creating a completely new game from scratch. It’s something that even Konami shouldn’t have been able to fuck up.
This wouldn't have happened if Kojima had managed to keep his baby. Always protect your publishing, folks. NEVER sell the life, soul, and heartbeat of your brainchildren to a company who will "help you find success." This will always be the kind of result that hits you in the face in the end.
Sure but good luck retaining ownership of an IP created in 1987 under a publisher . Nobody did
Kojima always wanted to pass the metal gear franchise to a worthy successor but couldn't, so he just ends up coming back and directing the games again, until he got fired after mgs 5

im really surprised anyone expected anything other than bad from Konami. This is 100% what you should have expected from them since they have a long history of bad porting and not really caring about their IPs.
They did okay with the Contra and Castlevania Advance collections. Both of those probably have some minor issues, but I haven't run across anything major other than not being able to run them on Steam Deck, which is disappointing but not totally debilitating.
*However,* I knew as soon as I heard there was a Metal Gear/MGS collection coming that it was not going to get any effort with its release. Konami wasn't going to have any respect for what Hideo Kojima created. *Of course* it would be a bunch of lazy ports, possibly literally just emulated ISOs without any options to modify controls or visual details on the player's end. Konami has all the respect and executive function of a 17-year-old who wants to be 21 so there's no authority over them.
I'm surprised anyone expected anything good from an HD collection in general. They are ALWAYS crappy cashgrabs.

This reminds me of the Silent Hill HD collection Konami put out years ago. That also released in rough shape
The sad thing, patches are supposed to be for fixing bugs that slipped past the radar or adding post launch content. Instead, most companies just use it as an excuse to release games half finished. Makes me glad that Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill F are being made by third party developers instead of being developed by Konami who have already proven several times over that they don’t give a damn.
Something must change in the gaming landscape so that publishers can be hold responsible for there advertisement and promises they don’t deliver on - it’s just unjustified and sad that they seem to know they can get away with it again and again without further consequences.
It Will never change as long as they give them money

This is so deeply frustrating to me because this felt like my only real way to play the older MGS games I missed out on. People keep telling me to emulate them but my PC hasn't been playing nice with certain things like a PS2 emulator, so MGS3 chugs pretty hard during cutscenes and the audio becomes a mess. And a single 60 dollar purchase (at least until the Vol 2 of the collection drops) is much easier than buying a PS3 and buying the old HD collection.
I guess I'll wait and hope that Konami fixes this and makes these the actual definitive ports but... Man.

Grabbed this collection on Switch just to see how they stack up compared to the collections released in the past and It is a mixed bag. I actually like the new menus and interfaces, I just wish there was a central launcher to launch vs. opening each individual game. I have the legacy collection that released on the PS3 back in the day, as well as the xbox 360 collection. The main upside, to me, is just being able to play these games on current consoles. It is disappointing that they didn't go above and beyond, but Konami will Konami. I am just happy that after 7 years of waiting, Konami finally brought these games to Switch.
100% just grateful they're putting out anything at this point

“Easy win” is an understatement honestly. As one of their most beloved franchises, all that botching this collection could possibly do is squander the money & effort needed to start the project of making the collection to start with. You’d think they’d have learned after fallout of the abysmal Silent Hill Collection Konami’d put out years ago that it’s worth fully committing to the best version of a project like this considering the returns in both money & goodwill they could get. Companies need to stop being allowed to think they can half ass the treatment of these beloved franchises under the impression that fans will eat it up regardless.

Mori is popular in japan, she made a song for one piece earlier this year that was a huge hit.
Konami was already on my sh!t list now i gotta bump up to my no buy list.
Having purchased and played it myself (on PC), I started out with the first in the series (Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) and it worked and played fine. I didn't like that saving data still used the MGS3 HD edition's menu, as it's in a separate app, but still enjoyed it with no hiccups. MGS1 on the other hand I could tell immediately there were some issues. The controls are inverted to match the PS1 versions swapped control scheme which is fine but you can't change controls until you open the game, not in the main menu options. Next, the graphics are much muddier than I expected. It's a PS1 game, so I didn't expect much, but the digital version on the PS3 is about what I expected to see, which is not what we got here. Haven't finished MGS1 yet so I can't say how rough the ports of 2 and 3 are in comparison, but it's not looking good online.
There was a lot of talk and drama about how bad this collection was going to be, but honestly I thought it was dramatized and wouldn't be as bad as people made it out or that their expectations were too high. This is a collection of some of the greatest games of all time, untouched from their HD editions at 60$, and I was happy with that. The added content like different editions and collector's books is icing on the cake. But that doesn't look to be the case given my experience.
Based on the description and setup, I expected about the quality of the Castlevania collections released over the past few years. Still Konami brand, both high profile franchises, and both getting collections. The Castlevania collections are both great, and got multiple updates to make them even better. But it's clear to me that the team that were given the Castlevania collections can port games much better than the team that was given Metal Gear.
Maybe we'll get updates akin to what the Castlevania collection got, improving the quality of the games? As it is right now, fans have been able to go in and fix the quality with some quick changes, so it's very doable for the team to go back and update the whole thing taking some of these fixes into consideration. Whether or not they do it depends on how much the team cares. I'm not super optimistic given the newest post with the MGS Delta pre-alpha footage earlier today/yesterday, possibly trying to sweep the complaints under the rug, but I hope that I'm wrong.
tldr?
Why is anyone surprised this has happened? We don't live in the early 2000s anymore.
This constant trend of game companies failing to make a proper remaster/collection has to be intentional at this point.
Modders are ALWAYS making corporations look like complete FOOLS
The modders provide free labor and the corporation get the profir, hardly foolish.
Bethesda moment
The thing that disappointed me was that the controls or miss features that were in the original game.
I played mgs 2, on the ps5 and i remember distinctly, on the ps2 you could hold the square button down to aim snd shoot, but when releasing the button slowly he wouldn't shoot and just put away his gun, that feature is gone.
Now you have to press L3 or something to not shoot while aiming.
I don't even want to know what they did with when holding a full auto weapon
_In fairness,_ that has to do with missing features on the controller itself. None of the modern consoles feature pressure sensitive buttons on their controller, making it necessary to introduce some sort of work around. Clicking the button to not shoot is the same work around that was used in the 360 and Vita versions of the HD Collection
@@gdj2438 do you really think they took away the feature that it measures how hard buttons are being pressed? It could be, but i feel like everyone duakshock had that.
They just have to let us map a different button to it. Imagine the same feature as adaptive trigger
Is it me or does it feel like all the big companies are forgetting how to make games? it's been bothering me for a while and that's what it feels like.
Tbh a lot of their key creators are gone from the company so it make sense why they sucks, Capcom lose Shinji Mikami and Keiji Inafune, Konami lost Hideo Kojima and Koji Igarashi, Tecmo lost Tomonobu Itagaki, Nintendo lost Satoru Iwata and Gunpei Yokoi, MK lost John Tobias and Dan Forden, Square Enix lost Hironobu Sakaguchi, Sega lost Christian Whitehead and Yuji Naka, UbiSoft lost Jade Raymond, Sony lost Kaz Hirai, etc.
Can we stop acting like Konami will ever do anything positive for gaming (since Kojima departure). Its honestly getting old that anyone, to include Yong tbh, has hope that something would change (real or acted as if he does for videos) and then they churn out content when it yet again doesn't pan out. I really am tired of this kind of "content". If Konami DOES something 10/10 that would be worthy to talk about but not if they are in the mud and we are acting like it's surprising they are still in the mud.
