    The premium is only stupid if you grade with places like TAG lol
    Nice work :)

      Thanks Ben! You are right, once you realize that objective and consistent grading is available (TAG), you realize just how silly it is to put such a premium on a card that could have been a BGS 10 Gold or even a 9.5 on a different day.

    Happy to report that with inspiration of this weekly segment, this life long Bruins die hard fan was the winner of the Ray Bourque card at 4:30, my first hockey card. I'm far more into baseball (and not into patch autos there), but the knowledge I've picked up watching this every week had me dipping my toes into starting a hockey collection. Appreciate this vid every week, so thanks .... (and thanks for not bidding me up!)

      That's super cool to hear that I inspired you to start a hockey collection!!! I love the pickup, congrats! Keep me posted on your future pickups too!

    I don't collect BGS Black Labels but the same could be said for a PSA 10. How much difference in eye appeal is there between a PSA 9 and a 10? An 86 Fleer Jordan...10X from a 9 to a 10. People say a BGS 10 86 Jordan would be a $1,000,000. If there were ever a Black Label 86 Jordan I could easily see it going for $5,000,000. In the end you are right why the extreme premiums?

    • @SportsCardsLive
      @SportsCardsLive  Před 29 dny +2

      I agree 100%. I love selling into the PSA hype. I firmly believe that 40%+ os PSA 10's could have been a PSA 9 on a different day or is graded by a different grader. The inconsistency is mind blowing. 9's are just fine, especially in the high-end world where the 10 premium is extreme.

    Thank you for confirming this used case of the Black Label psychology and credit to the consigner for submitting to Beckett and kudos to the QA at Upper Deck in printing of this Bedard card.

      I see it this way, the submitter hit the spin-the-wheel grading lottery.

    Interesting in studying the AUSTON MATTHEWS EMBLEMS OF ENDORSEMENT BGS 7 the leaf emblem is white on his Jersey but is the blue version emblem on the back, a nice contrast. I could not find the BGS 8.5 under sold/completed search option.

    The premiums on PSA 10s are just as stupid. At least the Black labels are more rare.

    • @SportsCardsLive
      @SportsCardsLive  Před 28 dny

      Well, yes, they are stupid too, but not as stupid. Sure they are more rare, so great for people who collect labels, but most of us collect cards. Cheers Mike!

    Because of the great print quality of Topps Now cards, I am doing my own Black Label Experiment . 10 Topps Now Josh Gibson cards going to PSA and 10 going to BGS.

    Should owners of PSA 10 2023+O-PEE-CHEE Bedard Marquee rookie crack and submit to BGS looking for the black label ?

  • @brettmiles16
    @brettmiles16 Před 29 dny +1

    Clowns! 🤡 Ha ha.
    Amazing how much of a premium that black label received. Makes me think about how much I’d be willing to shell out for a black label RC of my guy??? 10x? 20x? I hope not.
    Equipment bag memorabilia…not on a card like that. Not that way. Give me a jumbo piece that has some character and story to it…make it more about the bag and less about it being on a signed Gretzky card. Then maybe.
    Love these episodes. Keep it up. 👍

      I've never owned a BGS 10 Black label card for one reason: They just aren't worth the price. People buying black labels perhaps think they are buying the finest copy of a card, but they are not. They are simply paying for the ability to flex the black label; not the card itself. Its quite hilarious actually.
      I like how you qualified the equipment bag in terms of a bigger piece with some character. I still wouldn't buy one for my PC, I don't think, but I would be happy to buy one to flip.
      Cheers Brett!

    When black labels first came out i thought it was a cool gimmick but not worth it. I ended up asking my wife for any black label for my birthday and she got me a Kris Bryant black label card that was a dollar raw but $100 in a black label. I love it because it was a gift but i would have never bought it myself

      Cool story Pepino! Nice gift from the wife. Black labels are novelties at best.
