Jackson Browne is an amazing songwriter! Regarding the statement about the organ part being really good, according to the album's liner notes, that's Doug Haywood playing the organ. Other musicians on this track include Browne himself on rhythm guitar, Rick Vito on lead guitar, Craig Doerge on piano and synthesizers, Bob Glaub on bass and guitar, and Russ Kunkel on drums, with Danny Kortchmar credited as the arranger. Backing vocals are sung by Doug Haywood and Rick Vito. IDK for certain, but I interpret this as a protest song about the Cold War. BTW, if you like Jackson Browne, then you'll love Bob Seger.
I LOVE this song and used to hear it SO often on classic rock radio back in "the day," so when I saw this pop up...WHAM... I'm right here! and smashing like before even listening! :D Yes I really like this song...So sue me! ;)

The 80s were a unique time for world politics. We saw the collapse of that massive empire.
BTW, I think the car is a Mercedes Benz. BMW didn't have dual headlights at that time as far as I remember... close enough.
Cold war had a hard impact on all those groups it seems, some make propaganda-like love songs, some make satire, some get influenced by the art, some get stoned in front of their TV sets :) This is the 3. song from eighties with some USSR influences in it that you're reacting to and there even was a recent Björk song :)
You Guys should definitely check out Black Sabbath - War Pigs live In Paris 1970 they were the band that created the genre metal in the late 60’s! The performance is killer and I would love to see your guys reaction!
Jackson Browne is my all time favorite singer/songwriter. For me his best albums are "Late For the Sky" & "The Pretender", although his biggest album success is "Running on Empty" with it's 7 x Platinum sales.

Haven't heard this in years. It didn't do as well as some of his other stuff, but I always thought it was really good, even more so when you put it with the video👍🏻👍🏻
Jackson Browne charted 12 Top 40 Hits. Only "Doctor My Eyes" peaked at 8 in '72, "Running On Empty" peaked at 11 in '78, and "Somebody's Baby" peaked at 7 in '82 would chart higher than "Lawyers In Love" which peaked at 13 in '83. His other Top 40 Hits include "Here Come Those Tears Again" "Stay/The Load-Out" "Boulevard" "That Girl Could Sing" "Tender Is The Night" "You're A Friend Of Mine" and "For America." I should also add that "Lawyers In Love" is tied with 3 of his other hits for the most weeks any of his songs stayed in the Top 40 (12 weeks).
... just as a FYI, the pop filter goes between your voice and the microphone, not the other way around. As a lawyer I can say that a bunch of us belong in Russia. If you like Jackson Browne, his great contemporary Bob Seger will be to your taste ... start with _Night Moves_ and go from there, he has a very deep catalog
