- Thank you to our Alpha Patron Joel for this wonderful show. i didn't know it was gonna be a live show so that took me by surprise... but this was fun. I enjoyed separate parts of it but all together it was a unique combo of the 70ss and 80s.

Do 'Sky Blue and Black' by Jackson. Fantastic song.
I prefer the clarity and sparseness of the album version too, but it’s good to see this, thanks. Another heartbreaker!
Such a good song writer! I think The Load Out/Stay ( live) is still my favorite for just the joy of the performance.
The woman singing was Valerie Carter. She did a lot of good solo work and sang backup for Jackson, James Taylor and others.
"Stone's Throw Away" is great! JB wrote "That Girl Could Sing" about her. Gorgeous voice.
His voice is timeless. Put's my mind at ease.
Lee you said it perfectly right and this song was the best Jackson did in his later years. It somewhat pales to his music of the 1970’s though I do like this one very much!
Agreed. He had some real jams in the 80's and 90's, but nothing like the pure poetry of his work in the 70's.
The live version was performed well, but I prefer the studio cut. Also, I feel like the instrumentation here overwhelmed the lyrics. And the lyrics to this song make it one of my favorite Jackson Browne songs. If you get a chance, give it another listen (or the studio cut) and focus on the lyrics.
Will do brother! Thank you for the tip. I'll pay attention to the lyrics more for the studio cut when I listen :)
Agreed. The lyrics are gut wrenching
Great song writer ❤
The album that this song is on has a lot of gems. The song "Lives in the Balance" definitely deserves a listen... very powerful social/political commentary, even for today.
Great song❤
It really was. I really dig Jackson. He writes from the soul.
@@L33Reacts - That whole Laurel Canyon crowd was amazing. CSN, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Brown, Mama Cass, James Taylor, etc. Timeless.
On y short list. Many great song build attributes. Barricades of Heaven next.
He was only 16 when he wrote the beautiful song ( especially when Nico sings it) These days
Check out the whole album.
Always enjoyed him
Jackson Browne was a Laurel Canyon resident ( have mentioned the Canyon before Lee ) where so many great 60s musicians. He wrote stacks of songs whilst in collaboration with the noted musicians. Difference was he didn’t achievement until the 70s. But we got it better than never
Great observation on musicians. I have seen Jackson Browne several times over the years. The first time was 1979 and the last time was 2015. And yes, always great musicians. If you want to learn about several of those musicians, watch the recent documentary about the Immediate Family. A group of great musicians that kind of got their starts through James Taylor and played on hundreds and hundreds of songs. Many of those guys were in the band I saw play with Jackson in 1979. I would agree that In The Shape Of A Heart is a good song but doesn’t rank with his best.
The Pretender!
Next week! 😊
Massive respect for Jackson. Doesn’t matter the decade performed. This is a perfect song for you to get into…lyrics need to be digested and absorbed. Listen to my Pandora Jackson Browne channel all the time.
This version is a LOT different from the studio version. You owe it to yourself to check it out. So much better.
I'm ready. Sunday Nights at Jackson's House.
I Love & hate this song , it brings back bittersweet memories of my "Girl from Yesterday" that I'd gifted with a necklace that had a pendant "In the Shape of a Heart" . This album came out not long after the relationship had ended . Mr. Browne tapped into that & I'm sure there's others that have similar bittersweet memories .
I always thought the lyrics of this song were especially good.
Yeah the lyrics are definitely on point with this one. Jackson has a way with words.
His story is very sad , read about him . Tragic
He has a couple of solo acoustic albums. Check out his solo version. For some reason when I leave links the comments get removed. If you are a traveling musician you need to listen to the entire album of Running On Empty and check out the LIVE versions. The two biggest on CZcams are "The Load Out/Stay" and "Running On Empty" LIVE.
The entire Running On Empty album is great and actually IS a live album. Recorded on stage, in hotel rooms, backstage, and on their tour bus. It is a rarity in the world of live albums because unlike most live albums, their are a minimal amount of studio “fixes”. They didn’t fix mistakes, correct with overdubs, etc. This album belongs on the list of great live albums. The 2 songs you mentioned are certainly worth a reaction but everyone reacts to those. I’d love to hear Lee react to Rosie, You Love The Thunder and/or The Road…this is a full album listen IMO
altho i do like this song..........there are sooooooo so many songs of his that are better
I bet there is! We'll get there. I have a request for the pretender to do next.
Album version is far, far better.
His wife committed suicide. This song is about that.
