@@No1reallydies this is not true, really. You just want to believe this, e60 is not faster than f90 anyways, acceleration, top speed, 0-100, 100-200, it's older and slower. I agree that e60 is classic, V10 sounds great, I like e60 too, but f90 is faster and way more modern.

The E60 M5 is truly an epic car, a real shame it's an absolute nightmare to own.
I have one, 80k miles on it now. Couple little electrical issues for sure
Have worked at dealerships forever. Every E60 M5 has been a disaster. Even things like the stitched leather dash just totally coming apart. Electrical issues, engine lights etc. Pity as they were an amazing bit of kit

I got almost 100k miles on my m6. I put 50k by myself. So far I never had any serious problem with the car beside wear and tear items and regular maintenance. One of the most reliable car I have ever owned.
Like almost all E60. Not only design was shite but quality and reliability were horrible. Better own a E39, and this one looks good.

1:25 the M button was not pressed, the m5 was in 400bhp mode not 507bhp
The power button was pressed for 507bhp that's why there aren6 gear settings showing. Normally shows upto S5. With power button and traction off S6 becomes available
And I guess it wasn't on SMG 6 mode because of the super slow gear changes.
@@raphaeme it was in S5 which is still quick and sharp but you gotta know how to shift an smg properly to get the best out of it. It took me a few months in mine to get to know how to use smg box properly

Haha, you don't have to have "M" button pressed to be in high HP mode. Can simply press the power button by the gear shift. Start up, ie. Low HP mode is way slower. 12.8 is normal 1/4 mile time in High Hp mode. M button is just whatever you want to program it and can acutally program it to be in low HP with other selections if you want.
M5 E60 was, is and will be the best BMW ever. The E61 even better. Those V10 engines and that design, oh gosh. I’ll be in love forever...

I test drove one, and might have bought it if it was a bit comfier and didn't wheelspin so much. Even driving normally it just wants to screw the rear tyres up, but it's a great little car. Handles beautifully too.
@@ApothecaryTerry I'd have said the complete opposite. It's a very comfortable excellent daily, with actually very good mpg. Handling is its weak point and tbh it doesn't want to wheel spin everywhere with Michelin Pilot super sports or ps4 on. Maybe the one you tried had shitty run flats

@@ItzD3fW1sH I guess comfort depends what you compare it to- vs an RS3 it's much better, vs a GS450h it's much worse. The tyres probably were bad true, but the throttle is twitchy- usually that means precise which is good, but it did seem tricky to drive slowly (maybe just psychologically!). I didn't find handling a weak point at all though, not sure about track performance but it was easy to control and great fun, much better than the previous gen 3 or 5 series imo.
George Turl Agree. I ran a M135i for a while and they are a lot quicker than people think. Although mine had 320 bhp I don’t understand why people think you can just boot it everywhere and not have a few traction issues. Great cars , not perfect but value great performance for little money. Soon to be discontinued sadly.

You never own one you don’t fking know, it’s a true car, only one manufacturer is producing NA v10 this days. The e60 is absolutely a true car.

I think it did really bad. The last drag with carwow as well. 13.5 13.6 is on the extreme high side for this car. It should perform between 12.6 and 13.0

@Richard Seffer Don't tell me the e90 m5 didn't have serious transmission problems and basically everything going wrong with it that could... BMW is notorious for really bad quality. On the other hand they drive like a dream.
@Richard Seffer I still would never go as low as owning a BMW. They are super expensive to buy, maintain and repair. In most cases you will have to repair it quite often. There will be lucky owners but especially nowadays that you can only get a manual with lower end engines, there will be a lot of problems. I just do find it hard to like a manufacturer that sells you unreliable shit and lies about being the best. Back in the day, BMW was truly great, but in the last 15-20 years they are just a status symbol for most.

In all honesty, cars such as these (M5, E63, RS6) are not designed or engineered with durability or reliability in mind.
In all fairness, these are £100k cars made for the filthy rich to enjoy for 2/3 years or 50k/60k miles and then go and dump it in part x against another brand new car.

This is why i love my e60 m5, the model debuted in 2006 and is still kicking ass...not too mention i love the design and sound
The M5 V10 and the M6 V10 will always be BMWs herocars! No matter how fast the new cars are.. a V10 is always a V10, and we all know there is no replacemant for displacement 😍🔥

Modern diesel is really insane, wanna se 550d g30 vs e60 m5. The technology of diessl engine really improve in last 10 years
even the e60 535d would be competetive from the launch. The M5 is just flying at high rpms.
The F10/11 M550d is as fast as the E60/61 M5.

The problem with diesels is that everyone thinks just because they have more torque, that they are quicker when they here the torque numbers. I really would like to see diesels on a track. Petrol vs. Diesel lap times wpuld be interesting

RS6 sedan imo better
@@deltaruin5941 I had the RS6 estate, and it cost thousands in repairs. Fucking oil leaks meant the engine had to come out twice. Very quiet when standard, handling isn't great at all, but they are very quick in a straight line. Around 700bhp when remapped too I believe.
I have an m140i now though and it's much quicker than the RS6, and much more fun to drive.
Any V10 is unreliable, shame cos they're epic. I looked at an M140i, very nice but wasn't comfy enough for me (mostly motorway driving) so I bought a GS450h which is a total beast. Not much cornering grip, although great balance, but down a slip road it's ridiculous- plus it looks like a really slow car. Shame it doesn't launch though.

Very nice comparison. In what regards the braking test, the whole system's performance depends in how well maintained the individual parts of the system since we are comparing new registered cars with a 10plate car.

Well as an owner of an E60 M5 for over 2 years and spending ZERO on it for maintenance apart from servicing...I'd say they're as reliable as any other car I've owned. But hey I'm just an owner...Doug Demuro obviously knows better than an owner :/

Love the V10...the 8 series is a beautiful looking machine. But a £30k hot hatch held it’s own admirably against what is a 500 horse power monster. That is incredible.

I was very surprised with the m140i on a roll. It held he m5 far longer than I thought. Maybe helped by a shorter gear?
I have a feeling he didn't have the M5 in M mode, or didn't push the 'POWER' Button, which limits him to 400hp

Surely there is somebody, ( after market ) starting to try to mate that 8 speed wet clutch ZF gearbox to that Engine ?? I realise that the trickle down effect of finding wrecked cars with that ZF gearbox is starting to happen. Or are the ratios totally wrong ?
@Richard Seffer DCT horrible wtf?? My third car with DCT now and its just keeps getting better. Much more raw feeling than torque converter like F90. Best transmission ever.
Autocar road test M5 did 12.8 standing quarter in 2004 so that was a good showing by Matt in that race to equal that time

I think you should have horizontal white lines painted after the brake line so you can compare how close or far the front of the cars are to one of the lines
