I’m Canadian but my parents came here as immigrants when I was very young. This was back in the early 90s. I remember my mom was only Muslim woman in the building and she didn’t talk English at all. But all the women on our floor used to come over and sit with her, even though they didn’t know how to talk to eachother, they understood eachother, I thought it was funny how they tried to communicate so I used to translate for them. my mom taught them how to cook and make sweets. They asked a lot of questions about our culture because they were soooo interested in Arab culture, not because they thought we were weird. This was back when people weren’t afraid of eachother. I just don’t understand what is so threatening about immigrants
