Aglaonema rotundum 'Tiger' Care And Propagation In Water and Soil - WITH SATISFYING UPDATES

- The aglaonema rotundum hails from Northern part of Sumatra in Indonesia. With striking electrifying pink vein and dark green leaves, this plant is easy to grow if you get the growing conditions right. This is why I set out to share care tips for this aglaonema. I used a sick and unsightly specimen to show you how I rehab it and turned into many plants in the end using water and soil propagation. This episode is satisfying to watch to the very end!

Hey Sean, I want to appreciate the amount of hardwork you put in these propagation videos. I cannot tell if there is anyone else on this platform who helps the viewers with propagation updates as well but yours is the most helpful. You might already have heard this but if not, know that you're a gem for us plant parents and this community.
Wow thank you for taking the time to write this. It encourages me! ❤️
After all these years of avoiding aglaonemas, I finally got one yesterday. I can't believe I was blinded from realizing how beautiful they are!
They also size up beautifully. And comes in so many diverse varieties.
Great video Sean. I have missed these videos on specific plants care & propogation. I hope you’re doing well. 🥰
Doing well here, thank youu!
Hi Sean, I hope you are doing well 😊 I just want to say that your plant care and propagation is my favorite type of videos. I think this is what sets you apart from other plant CZcamsrs, aside from your sense of humor ofcourse 😉 It’s very useful and informative and realistic. I know you mentioned that you don’t get the same views as before, but I hope you don’t stop making quality videos like this. More power to you!!! 🥇
Thank youuu. A few are filming and on the way! i have just ended 9 months of travel so I should be home more! Thanks for letting me know. This encourages me!
Seaaaaaaan!!!
I'm SOOOO happy you did a video on THIS specific Ag!! They are REALLY hard to find in the USA. I've had mine for almost a year. It's not as easy to care for as all my other Ags. It had 6 leaves when I got it, immediately dropped 3 of them and stayed dormant for several months. I put it in a ziplock bag about a month ago and it's finally sprouted it's first leaf with me. I've been too scared to propagate it so I'm so happy to see this video. When I feel it's more established I'll be ready to propagate it. I'd cry for days if I lost this plant, it's so striking!!
Whoaaaa… thanks for the share. They actually dont ship too well from what I heard… maybe the best way to rehabilitate is to propagate them and let them adapt to your environment
Hi Sean, The mother plant might not have the "clump" shape, but it sure is pretty, anyway. I would be more than happy to have it in my collection.
If you lived closer I would have sent you a cutting 😀
Thanks, very timely. I bought an Aglaonema "Red Edge" online and it, uh, looked better on the website. It needs to be propagated and now that I saw your video I got some more motivation. I will chop it in half and water prop the top cutting. Thanks for your educational material. I enjoyed your video as always.
Cheers 😀
Missed these videos it gave me nostalgia and brought it back the old onlyplants. It was nice. Thank you.
❤️❤️ i miss it too. More to come!
I fell in love with this plant when you first introduced it a couple years ago and I finally find a local collector that sells it. I got a stem with two leaves and there is no growth to me. The leaves fell and I only got a clean stem with a frozen shoot. I am tempting to chop the stems and do the propagation after seeing this video.
I've had a similar experience with mine out had 6 leaves and dropped 3. I put it in a ziplock bag and it's finally putting out a new leaf.
Cute!
Yeahhh you might be able to turn it into many plants. Keep an eye out for moisture and humidity… I failed to care for mine consistently thats why only a few babies sprouted.
Beautiful veining on that aglaonema! Thanks for sharing Sean.
Thank youu
Beautiful water roots! I will propagate mine like this. Hope it will success! Thank you Sean❤
They do well with water propagations. Good luck!
I have one that I got 23 years ago and it is beautiful
Whoaaa thats cool! I wanna keep mine for at least that long too. Ive only collected plants 5 years ago.
Lovely plants 🪴
My friend, thank you for good sharing 😊
Like it

Oh! Yay! Nice to see you working with your plants ☘️🌵🪴😊
🥰🥰
Wow! U really do a good job with all plants & props. With ao many htbrid aglos out there, always wonder how many OGs r actually out there😂
Haha yes… I wish more people are into them. They are truly underrated
I really love your propagation video! 😊
Hehe thank youu. I love making them too but Ive been travelling tons this year. More to come!
@@onlyplants Yay!
I've been watching your videos for quite a while and i must say, i'm very impressed with your dedication & devotion to houseplants Sean.
I wish you can and will help introduce and bring new market for all beautiful and astonishing aglaonemas hybrids from our beloved country that has always been out of the western part of the world's radar.
I can not reccomend enuf beautiful hybrids that are worthy of being feature in your channel cause therw are simply so many of them, such as the magnificent Golden Hope (which are one of decendant from Rotundum) and the astonishing Widuri Putih Tulang Merah (Witurah). Both are masterpiece from Sir Greg H which we are so proud of.
Looking forward where does this path will take you Sean, keep up the good work, and we're proud of you!! 🇲🇨
Thank you. Yes it puzzles me why aglaonemas are not in the supply and demand chain in western civilizations. I do get lots of views and comments from people who want them! No one bother to import them somehow.
A lot of us plant lovers in the West wish they could buy from you because aglaonemas come in so many beautiful varieties but all we can find are the same ordinary ones. We can order from producers in Indonesia but the shipping fees are very high and inexplicably diverse from one seller to another. You also have to pray the customs don't make it all even more complicated and costly. So all we can hope for is for western big plant companies to start getting in touch with your producers and/or authorities so we can at last buy some of the magnificent hybrids we dream of.
It's simply the case of supply and demand. The more demands for this kind of exotic hybrids the more likely it will happen in the future.
And honestly, as the only one (atleast i don't find anyone else) English speaking plant youtuber from Indonesia, i hope Sean can help drawing more attentions to this lovely Aglaonemas.
@@dharmaiskandar536 I wish it would work but Sean has been drawing attention to aglaonemas for quite a while and nothing has changed. For some reason aglaonemas are not trendy like philodendrons, hoyas or begonias and I can't think why. Most aroids we find in continental Europe come from the Netherlands who import them from South-East Asia. I'll try asking the e-shop I buy from why they're so little interested in aglaonemas.
Another great video Sean. This plant has been on my wish list forever. Impossible to find here in the UK. 😢
Thank youu. They dont ship so well I think thats why sellers avoid importing some aglaonemas
Just got my first aglaonema a week ago and love it. Surprised how amazing it smells and how well it cleans up the air inside. Grows so easy too. I potted mine with about 30 pothos cuttings.
Whoaaa interesting. 😀
@@onlyplantshaha hoping they start cascading over the side. Gonna look wild one day
That species aglaonema rotundum is very endemic in the Philippines.
Someone commented that it is a hybrid variety named Tiger.
Your videos are so enjoyable and educational! Thank you for all the work you do!
My pleasure 🐸
such a great prop.&care videos as always! 👍🏼👍🏼
but sorry Sean, this one is NOT Aglaonema rotundum (endemic species from Aceh&North Sumatra).
But, a HYBRID of A. rotundum (x A.Cawang from Thai ,*cmiiw🙏🏼). Used to be called A. rotundum 'Tiger' in our market. 🙏🏼
I had a feeling too… in my initial introduction I actually said “aceh” after rotundum but I edited that out later on. But I did not know the right ID, so thank you so much for detailing that.
@@onlyplants you're welcome.
actually i'm also still searching for the valid parentage.
that one i mentioned before was the name that i've heard from some people (that have expertise in hybridizing Aglao). 🙏🏼
You can watch samsudin111290 channel titled "Pengumuman id hybrid terbaru...", There Mr. Barlie, the next Mr. Greg, introduced some of his new Aglaonema hybrids that's on sale, and he explained and showed the difference of rotundum from Aceh, rotundum tiger, red mundo and red vein
Hi , i really love aglo but unfortunely theres not much here to where i am anyway i really enjoy your video thanks👍🌵
Yeahhh I dont know why they in low supply in many parts of the world. They are actually not that hard to grow.
It’s beautiful plant .. l have one
😀😀
I enjoyed your video, I will look to find one 😊😊
😀😀
We had house renovations last year as well, and I can't find many of my plants. I found my rotundum out in the sun, and it's fine, but it's really bleached. I keep forgetting to take the poor thing out of the sun.
Haha yes they really love to be in shade. Ive seen many aglaonemas in direct sun, it dont kill them but they look so miserable.
True!

❤️❤️❤️
🥰
😀😀
I saw your beautiful Dieffenbachia among the Aglaonema. Did you ever find out it’s name?
I didnt 🥲🥲
Can you grow aglaonema in aquarium? Like with only the roots into the water?
I have a feeling you can but not forever. They water propagate very well actually.
@@onlyplants thank you for your response! The plants I received actually really look like they just came out of a water propagation (roots are very clean) so I put them in the tank but am trying very hard to not get the stems wet and will keep a close eye for signs of rot and see what happens!
I didn't find out in Instagram 😢
?
I love you honey ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🏽😅
😔
Chilling at home with plants finally and you are away from tight schedules exploring plant worl.Although we had been enjoying thoroughly those as well. 🥰🤎💚❤.
Haha yes I just ended my 8 months of travel!
