And think about it - Preston with those endless quests, he sometimes sends you into one place several times (database malfunctions?), that's not how human acts, no human would have knowledge of so many settlements and settlers - it's like there is a huge database in his head covering all Commonwealth - that's impossible for a human.
Dialogue option I wish was in the game: "Oh, HEY, Preston, glad I found you! I've been scoping out a Mirelurk den nearby, could use some help clearing it. What's that? You don't think you have enough ammo, so you need to leave and get more? DON'T WORRY about it! *I have plenty."*
I mean, he is extotorting money from civillians, and inpersonating somebody she knows. Also its a random encounter so its probably not scripted. Or he became hostile after the last dialog option but the OP starter blasting immidiatly do it wasnt obvious

Bro, I played this game in 2016 and it hold so much memories and now, suddenly I got hit by how much time has passed since I first played it, and how much time will pass and I still be playing this masterpiece, knowing that so much things have changed in these 7 years is really strange to think about.
well, i do have a solution, kinda, just build allota turrets around the settlements and then the settlement won't be under attack, be sure to give them water and food etc. to the point where it is enough, but let defense be more than food, water etc.

It's a real shame Bethesda made this event but didn't think to do anything else with it. Instead of him just running away he should have an option to be recruited to the Minutemen as a body double for Preston. Surely Bethesda could have come up with a quest to find a double after someone tried to assassinate Preston for doing whatever it is the Minutemen do.
probably because the development team wants to do all they can but Bethesda the company wants they to make the game as fast as they can so there conflict there. There were soo many scrapped quests like some underwater vault that they even recorded some dialogue like when Deacon is saying everything you have done in the Commonwealth and in the Glowing sea there are many places that could were planned to be quests or be interesting but had to be scrapped due to deadlines. The Fallout world is just soo massive and the Bethesda team just wants to do as much with it as possible it would take forever to make sure there were no wasted opportunities. That is why the Fallout team tried to keep Fallout 4 a secrete for so long so nobody would miss it if maybe they had to push the dead lines back a bunch. You see how mad people get when they hear a game is getting released but then the release date gets pushed back a bit to make it better.

First time I ran into that guy I was being attacked by super mutants and never got a chance to talk to him. He was killed in the crossfire and I thought I had actually killed Preston and was like "well there goes the minutemen quest."
I didn't know about this guy I've played fallout 4 like 5 times through the story and wandered around seemingly endlessly as I scavenged the wastes for my precious moon monkeys and teddybears (I collect them for a wonderful display).... never seen him once and this is the first I've ever heard of him
Preston's settlement missions were fun for awhile it sure did help me level up and I still enjoy doing them as I role play my characters 😉 I did a hero of the wastes before and never turned down those settlements had good karma and I never killed anyone without them attacking me first lol Time for the villain play through

New Theory: That is the real Preston, and the other one is an imposter who's sole purpose is to troll the sole survivor. Which is why he promoted you to general, and then makes you do all the work. Because in reality he is using you, and hiding behind a mask of moral righteousness.
But when your back is turned, he is secretly laughing at you, for believing in his bullshit. And Prestons Minutemen are actually the ones who betray the Minutemen at the Quincy massacre. While the real Minutemen are trying to rebuild elsewhere.

It's a real shame Bethesda made this event but didn't think to do anything else with it. Instead of him just running away he should have an option to be recruited to the Minutemen as a body double for Preston. Surely Bethesda could have come up with a quest to find a double after someone tried to assassinate Preston for doing whatever it is the Minutemen do.

probably because the development team wants to do all they can but Bethesda the company wants they to make the game as fast as they can so there conflict there. There were soo many scrapped quests like some underwater vault that they even recorded some dialogue like when Deacon is saying everything you have done in the Commonwealth and in the Glowing sea there are many places that could were planned to be quests or be interesting but had to be scrapped due to deadlines. The Fallout world is just soo massive and the Bethesda team just wants to do as much with it as possible it would take forever to make sure there were no wasted opportunities. That is why the Fallout team tried to keep Fallout 4 a secrete for so long so nobody would miss it if maybe they had to push the dead lines back a bunch. You see how mad people get when they hear a game is getting released but then the release date gets pushed back a bit to make it better.

First time I ran into that guy I was being attacked by super mutants and never got a chance to talk to him. He was killed in the crossfire and I thought I had actually killed Preston and was like "well there goes the minutemen quest."
I didn't know about this guy I've played fallout 4 like 5 times through the story and wandered around seemingly endlessly as I scavenged the wastes for my precious moon monkeys and teddybears (I collect them for a wonderful display).... never seen him once and this is the first I've ever heard of him

Preston's settlement missions were fun for awhile it sure did help me level up and I still enjoy doing them as I role play my characters 😉 I did a hero of the wastes before and never turned down those settlements had good karma and I never killed anyone without them attacking me first lol
