Life on a sailing boat isn't always romance and sunshine, some days it's really stressful and eventually can lead to fallouts, especially on days like today when we lose the ability to steer our boat.

Gripping stuff! Next time the boat is out, fit a rudder blade. It's a like small knife with a right angle in the end of the blade. Just slightly longer than the rudder gap and very sharp stainless it is fixed to the hull a few mm from the forward edge of the rudder. The blade slopes slightly aft and either cuts line or smaller ropes or deflects bigger stuff down the rudder blade. In combination with Ambassador Marine's Strippers you will never swear at pot lines again. 😀 Congrats from us two. Sail Safe guys. Ant & Cid.xx

I have never seen your channel before, never watched one of your videos, and with the title in mind I watched this lovely and amazing woman playing the perfect supportive role, doing everything really well...like I could be envious even....and I was thinking "hellsbells, dude, why the hell would you break up with her, she is awe-inspiring, and you are a ginger!"

Congratulations on your big day and like the kilt. Now to check the tartan. A very subdued hunting tartan. As for the line, nice it was ‘only’ the rudder stock. Been there, had that, Alderney to Chichester, rounding Ventnor, tide racing against us, hence engine, in 100m of water, moonless and pitch black. Took a sec to work out what was going but had the chart plotter and ‘tracks’ on clearly showing us swinging in an arc. No opportunity to get it to look at this. Pitch black and strong current running, ideal opportunity to be swept away. Put in a pan-pan and the Bembridge lifeboat chose to come out. It then nearly got entangled. All kinds of mayhem, but were finally towed back to Chichester harbour!

I have seen some weddings so pretty the beauty can get me to tears, but I don't think I have ever seen one half as stunning as yours. The planning, the making and the performing of that could be its own mini channel, really impressive, I hope the union equals it. I had been hoping all along that you would get married as the both of you seemed very compatible and I never saw any disagreement between you although from the experience of being married for 58 years, I know that there are times when you will have some , but always work them out amicably and you too will have a long and beautiful marriage. I figured out right away that the two of you had gotten married even though you tried to throw us off of the track initially.

2 comments about your pot line incident.
1) Been there, done that, ended up putting out a pan-pan as I didn't fancy going over the side in the dark with a swell running.
2) if you could have tied a line to the one stuck in your rudder, tied one end off and then put the other end into a primary winch, you may have been able to pull the line out of the steering by winching in.
Good effort sorting it out though and extra kudos for filming it - I'm not sure I'd have stopped to grab the go-pro.
Appreciate the alternative ideas, these will no doubt be food for thought for many of us going forward. As for grabbing the go pro, it was already attached to my mask, which it always is as I film when I spearfish. I really wasn't in much of a mood to film anything though, in the moment, just hit record and what came out, came out 😬
