So coming from zero knowledge of riding a motorcycle 3 years ago, I did as much research as I could on how to ride a motorcycle. What I also did was that I bought my bike first before going for the classes. So I learned how to use the clutch etc around my taman area to get the confidence. That was my own initiative and I made sure not to go out of my taman area. I didn't want to waste time going for the practical class and looking like a complete noob and having to learn the basics there when I could spend the time to remember when and where to flap my arms. But this is my choice to do it that way. Also when I was applying for the bfull class, we still had to go do the stupid computer test to get our L license. Nowadays no need, can go straight for practical classes if I'm not wrong. But once I got my L, I stuck the sticker on and started venturing further out and even went to my driving school for the practical lessons.
I did however find out during my practical classes that my driving school (metro driving academy), did teach complete motorcycle noobs on the basics of riding a clutch bike. They would go round and round the compound and once they were confident enough, they'd go for their first nightmare, the damn titi. Of course, terus jatuh la. I saw a few complete beginners during my practical sessions so I guess that was how they taught them. However I'm not sure if they started on a kapcai then moved on to the big bike or if they started out straight on the big bike because the classes are all pretty much mixed with people doing their first class, last class etc.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes it's good to have your own initiative to learn outside of school, but it is still the responsibility of the school to teach new students, they cannot slack on that part. If not mistaken, you only need to go through that written test part if you have no had any type of license prior.

@@thesighbored Yeah definitely agree with it being the driving school responsibility to teach. After all, they are a school.
Ive had a car license for 15 years or so and I still had to go for the written test 3 years ago. But nowadays yes, if you've already had license prior, then you don't need to go for the written test, just apply for the L license and go for the course.

Well said man. Can relate it was like this for me too as I came from a complete noob background. However, some of the instructors were definitely more supportive and helpful than others. The way I see it, most places don't control the instructors individually, in fact some of them was a total douchebag. But I digress, I passed and I'm done with it.
But I do worry that this might turn away prospective new riders. It sucks when something intimidating is compounded by dodgy practices and incompetent lazy instructors. Mentah2 seribu lebih keluar juga sial.

Firstly, congrats on passing! Well the story I got is that this is not by the instructor. It's right at the registration office itself. The staff there will ask you directly if you know how to ride or not. Maybe it could be request from the instructor though. Either way it's just f--ked up wanting the easy way not taking responsibility in training the students.

@@thesighbored oh damn, it does tally with what a buddy of mine told me too. They refused to accept his wife because she had no motorcycle background. Told her to go learn on her own and come back to do licence, on the excuse they don't want their bikes to be dropped.
      Ridiculous weyh.
