I doubt anyone sees this comment, but I wanted to say I remember him being so sweet and painfully shy--I was his 8th grade reading teacher. I remember him missing school to go to rodeos... and coming home a champion! Eighth grade!!! I wish I had appreciated it more for what it was. I just remember how shy he was and apparently so humble, which is why I didn't understand how amazing he was back then! Way to go Derrick! More than anything, I am happy to hear that you remain that great "kid" I once knew.
