Space Mountain, arguably the most famous rollercoaster in the world, is about to undergo its biggest change in its nearly 50 year history, with a "new" Space Mountain being built at Tokyo Disneyland, along with a new Space Mountain movie as well. So what does this mean for the future of Space Mountain at Walt Disney World and the versions all around the world?

I know how people feel toward sponsored content, but I do want to thank Squarespace for sponsoring this video. As this is actually a really cool full-circle moment for me. As before there was a DSNY Newscast, I used to run a news app called DSNY Digest for over 2 years, and that was powered by Squarespace's blogging platform. So I know how some may feel about sponsorships, but it helps keep content free, and this is a sponsor I really believe in and have used in the past.
Jack can you do a a Waltineering video of how we integrate Anastasia in the Disney Parks you know the 1997 Anastasia princess movie that was originally owned by fox and now owned by Disney sent Disney bought fox
We love to see the channel grow and understand it's necessary so that you can continue to provide content on a regular basis. Sponsor away🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Nothing wrong with that at all lol⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
1:54 It looks cool spacey more for Space Mountain in Tokyo Disneyland. My suggestion in my own thoughts opinion, is that it would be cool if Disneyland park anaheim could reskin classic Space Mountain into LIGHTYEAR MOUNTAIN if future new tomorrowland overhauling soon in Disneyland park anaheim, but although i do love classic Space Mountain though. I also hope Captain EO would comeback to Tomorrowland theater to reopen again in Disneyland park anaheim even with new tomorrowland changes as well along.
Do Viedo on future society of explorers & adventurers film that was announced
We need new society updates with anastasia and more new society members Story's not marvel
I think the best thing they could do for Disney World Space Mountain is as add music and make it two people per row, like in Disneyland. If they just added those two things, I would be ecstatic! It REALLY needs music, and two per row would help with crowds
People forget that there are two rides at Tomorrowland in the MK right as you walk in that have been closed forever, not to mention Tron not being finished. Can’t imagine Space Mountain being closed for 5 years too because they want to re-do it,
That space mountain in the thumbnail looks cool not gonna lie. I think magic kingdoms should get that refresh.
I think that Tokyo Space Mountain looks really cool! It really gives it a more futuristic look. I really do think Space Mountains at Disneyland CA and WDW do need a facelift as like you said are showing there age
The futuristic Space Mountain is very modern and highly genius-detailed for those who are ready for an actual bright future. I love it.
If they’re going to redo space mountain in the states, they HAVE to do it right. A lot of parks fans, including me will be mad if they completely gut out all of the elements and put something like screens. I would still love the ride, there’s just something charming about passing the upside down astronauts at WDW and going through the spinning light tunnel toward the black hole at Disneyland. I don’t think they’ll disappoint, but I will be mad if one of my favorite rides gets downgraded.
(Edit): I forgot to mention this: MK’s space mountain needs some love though for sure. And I would love to see some technical upgrades like onboard audio and a slight smoother track.
Bring back the spots where you can see the trains glowing in the dark as they are going around the track from the queue before you get on the ride!!!!
@@billsahlen446 bingo!
@@billsahlen446 AGREEED! That was so epic! and you could see the peoplemover too! Like a living breathing future world
I hope they don't change Disneyland so drastically, there is something iconic about our Space Mountain that the others just don't capture 😀
We will die one day and Disneyland will stay for the new generation to enjoy. Change is inevitable. Nothing will be the same forever. we should not be scared of change or be upset. Eventually others will enjoy it aswell and won’t remember what is was before their time
Honestly, Disneyland’s is nothing special, I just hope they don’t touch the original at Magic Kingdom.
@@dobermangroundzero82 Change isn't the problem. Replacing classic attractions with vastly inferior ones is how Disney has been operating lately. Mission: Space is hot garbage compared to Horizons. Runaway Railway is laughably terrible compared to the Great Movie Ride. I'm starting to wonder if all the talented Imagineers retired -- because the new attractions Disney is building (Avenger's Campus / Spiderman: Web Slingers, etc) would be an embarrassment at Six Flags, much less a Disney park.
Yeah, just like splash mountain.😒
I thought the refurb of Space Mountain at Disneyland made it better than the Disneyworld version. At least the track was much smoother.
Unpopular POV: I love WDW space mountain. The single-file ride trains add extra thrill factor that the others don’t have. It also holds the distinction as the first roller coaster at its respective resort. It could be seen as a token of its own ingenuity. I do think the effects need a renovation, especially the silver queue tube. But the simple and understated theme of space exploration still resonates well, and doesn’t require a huge, elaborate.overhaul to remain effective. There’re plenty of high-tech rides coming to WDW and space mountain does what it intends to: lifts people up and let’s gravity roll them back down to earth.
Even though I am not a roller coaster person, I honestly think Space Mountain should just stay the way it is. It is such an iconic ride and loved by so many people. If they want to tweak it in any way, then definitely go for it. But honestly I don't think the one at Disneyland or Disney World should get updated. Great video either way, Jack!
GLAD THAT IT'S GETTING UPDATES!
JACK: thanks for discussing the fact that the WDW Space Mountain attraction is essentially Florida's version of the Matterhorn at Disneyland, just set in a different environment. They are basically siblings, non identical twins.
People are always surprised when I tell them Disneyland and WDW Space Mountains are actually different rides and that WDW Space Mountain is just a space themed Matterhorn. Space Mountain at Disneyland is my favorite Disney coaster.
Yes space mountain needs to be updated. We all love it but this attraction could only get better by updating it since it’s so bare bones
So true
but because it is so "bare bones" that gives it its charm. it is up to your imagination in the dark of whats what, not what someone else says it should be. MKs Space Mountain unlike all the other attractions that super focused on a single story line. even Rock n roller coaster is highly themed. same with Guardians and Tron. but Space Mountain lets your imagination run. a good artist knows how to use "negative" space. and Space Mountain is one of those. no music, no sound. just you, the track, and the air rushing by in the dark with glimses of "positive" space here and there. the power of darkness and silence is just as important if not more so than light and sound. for it gives more meaning to the light and sound in the end.
I love Disneyland’s Space Mountain especially the soundtrack. If they ever do end up changing it, I hope they keep the soundtrack at least.
Disneyland Paris ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this is a fantastic ride and incredible theming that could be built on in Florida
Nooo I'd hate it if they changed Space Mountain in the states. I love that 70s style and what they thought the future would look like back then. We can't have every ride adopt the same new special effects, then everything would just be the same. Space Mountain shows its age, but that's what makes it so charming. Some things should just stay the same so we don't forget the visions of those before us. Tron is about to be done in Spring 2023 in MK, let Tron be the new design, that's what it was created for.
HyperSpace Mountain in Paris is really quite different and not just an "overlay" Unlike the original ride, the seats have over-the-shoulder restraints and does an inverted move - I think it's a barrel-roll. It also felt much faster than the other versions.
i was just in disneyland paris for 5 days and i agree, i love hyperspace mountain almost moreso than cosmic rewind.
What I don't like about Hyperspace mountain is that Paris's space mountain was originally steampunk and Jules verne themed and It's still steam punk looking and star wars has no business being involved in steampunk It clashes very harshly and looks like a kid made it
@@jaydenswift9856 - The original Jules Verne themed ride was stunning with a fully timed classical music theme and the cannon recoiling with smoke as you were fired into the ride. Biggest mistake was moving it to mission 2. Put it back to how it was.
Hyperspace Mountain definitely is an overlay on the already existing Disneyland Paris Space Mountain. An overlay meaning a different theme like the screens, music and lighting. It used to be steampunk themed now it is Star Wars themed.
I just want new tommorow land..😢
Disneyland needs it badly right now
Nah. They’ll just rename it “yesterday land” and keep it the same.
Yes. It must be updated
Daddy it’s ok
I wish the Oriental Land Company ran the parks in the USA.
They'd probably be cheaper...
I really don't want to see an overhaul of the existing space mountains. In really bummed about Tokyo changing theirs, because I was really looking forward to experiencing the original DLR Space Mountain someday.
I think it's best when Disney adds new attractions without replacing existing ones, such as Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway in Disneyland's Toontown and Tron in WDW.
You must remember that Space Mountain is sunk 30 feet into the ground, which was done at Disneyland, so that Sleeping Beauty Castle would not be dwarfed. I assume that they did the same thing in Tokyo. So, they easily could have a building the size of Guardians, but three stories would be underground.
Wish they did that at EPCOT
I'm pretty sure TokyoDisney's is mostly below ground. The building was so tiny from the outside, especially compared to the WDW version I'm so used to. Oriental Land Company will dig down if needed to get the same 10 stories as GotG, if that's the path they're taking....
We went on Disneyland’s Space Mountain in early June with the Star Wars overlay, and it was ROCKIN’… it has stood the test of time for me….but I would LOVE to ride a re-imagined version
The Disney World one is perfect, please do not change it! It remains the best ride in WDW
I agree 100%
I’ve been riding Disney World’s Space Mountain since I was eight. I still love the ride after 40 years and enjoy riding it with my four children. The memories are just unforgettable.
I hate how a lot of people look down on space mountain for its age. I think it only gets better with age. I like a lot of the original elements that I’ve been missing for several years. The open load areas and glow-in-the-dark rockets. I like original space mountain the best. All the old fashion retro elements only make it all the cooler. The original should be preserved
@@rocketrodlover I agree 100%
Love love love your content Jack, well done, such high quality. It’s a pity though long gaps in between. :)
Thanks Scott!
got here just in time!!!! love the channel
I think that the ride itself needs to be updated to fit in with the next 20 or 30 years much like how Tomorrowland in 1955 was meant to be a land representing the future of the 80's. We could see something representing the 2040's or 2050's or beyond, much like how Paris' Tomorrowland and space mountain is a future from the past, modeled after Jules Verne.
The original plan for the 1998 new Tomorrowland at Disneyland was supposed to be a 2055 theme, but it got scaled back due to budget cuts.
Living in both USA & Asia, I’ve had the chance to ride each incarnation of Space Mountain, including Tron, countless times. While Shanghai’s Tron is cool, when I’ve ridden either Tokyo’s or Hong Kong’s Space Mountains within a week or so, after… I actually prefer them, for their more enjoyable re-rideability and seasonal overlays from Halloween to Star Wars, etc… That said, I don’t see the need for WDW or Disneyland to replace theirs.
For me, this is a shaky subject. The current state of the og Space Mountain is my favorite attraction of all time, and I’m a massive Disney and roller coaster fan. So I don’t know how I would react to it changing. Splash Mountain is my 2nd favorite of all time, and when I saw that being renovated, I was devastated. Disneyland has their classic Disney dark rides, and I wish that space mountain would forever be that for Florida.
I agree with you on space mountain being one of my favorites. I wouldn’t mind seeing a makeover but not at the expense of being shut down for 5+ years. I mean the damn train has been down for almost 5 years and all they had to do is move some track. How long would it take to do a complete overhaul of this ride? I would say at least 3 years.
A good example of a makeover that I think is laughable is the remake of 20000 leagues under the sea into Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage which has gone through it’s second refurb. I’m on the east coast so I never got to experience the original but I feel like I would have enjoyed it as the classic ride much more.
Nothing on the planet like Space Mountain, I have much respect for that coaster. I hope if they redo it they keep it awesome. Tokyo's looks really cool but theres something so charming about the building, although I'll admit that as a kid it never stood out to me and I've only appreciated it in later years, so maybe a change to make it stand out more and unique will make kids love it more.
Space Mountain could you a track refurbishment and the design of the ride is perfect for seasonal (or IP) overlays. Just imagine a Christmas version flying along side Santa, a "scary" Halloween version, add in some classic Disney scent technology with a couple of overlays to revamp the experience. US Disney was plans till 2024 already layed out. At the current rate of "new" ride construction a large scale update would be complete around 2030.
WDW’s Space Mountain is an Icon. It is perfect. Do not mess with it. It is stressful enough what they are doing to Splash Mountain. Stop the madness.
I love how Tokyo are updating there ride Space Mountain, yet Japan is about technoligy. I personally do not think that Walt Disney World version of Space Mountain is likely to change to the same extent as it is an icons of the park and one of the original rides. With that said, it is just across from Tron Costor and would distrupt Tron if construction started massively like Tokyo, I think if anything it will be updated like Epcot Icon with lighting to light the park up. The inside might well be updated also with better lighting. Who knows what changes may come, as Disney said Walt Disney World will never be complete. It will just keep updating and getting better and better.
The new Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland is awesome. As for "updating" from Walt Disney World, like the Space Mountain for Holidays, I want it just like it a long time ago from Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland: Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy for Halloween.
Space Mountain Magic Kingdom doesn't need a new version, except for maybe a few touch ups in the queue and maybe making the toboggans ride vehicles glow-in-the-dark like they used to and resurfacing the entire track so that it's smooth like a limousine:
Space Mountain Magic Kingdom has historical value, and was based on Walt's vision of a roller coaster in space after the Matterhorn, but he couldn't do it because computers weren't advanced enough, but eventually they were able to do it in the 1970's. The Matterhorn was inspired by the toboggan style of roller coaster which was fun for families and children. Space Mountain Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Matterhorn are unique coasters that are unlike the majority of coasters. The Space Mountain Magic Kingdom building is so big they put it outside of the railroad ring and the ride track itself is actually a marvelous engineering wonder. There is so much intricacy in the ride track system and it also has the great Peoplemover that goes in and out of it, it's just an amazing architectural structure. Why would they tear this down, if they didn't tear down Splash Mountain to rebuild Tiana's Bayou Adventure? Just keep the ride. Save the money, and let people cherish the original Space Mountain ride, with its unique white architecture. The Matterhorn is the great mountain of the West coast Disney and Space Mountain is the great mountain of the East coast Disney.
With Cosmic Rewind at Epcot, Walt Disney World already has a space-themed ride with screens that can have Christmas and Halloween and Star Wars overlays just like Space Mountain Disneyland, and with the construction of the new Tron coaster next door, which is also full of screens that can have holiday overlays, we don't need another coaster that already does the same thing Cosmic Rewind and Tron are doing. People are always wanting to add these elements to the vintage Space Mountain Magic Kingdom, but it really doesn't need it, since Space Mountain Magic Kingdom is supposed to be about actually going to space, not a roller coaster with space theming music/ big screens/ special effects, so Space Mountain Magic Kingdom appropriately is eerie and silent, because space is eerie and there is no sound in space. It's a unique ride. With Disney already talking about building a 5th park, it doesn't make sense to me that they would build another roller coaster themed on space, when they just did that with Cosmic Rewind and that cost almost half a billion dollars. Why would they tear down an attraction just so they can rebuild the same attraction again, especially when we just did it twice with Cosmic Rewind and Tron. Let's start building the 5th park.
Space Mountain Magic Kingdom is a high-capacity ride with two tracks, it's two rides in one, so that's exactly what we need, which is perfect since most new rides are low-capacity. Space Mountain MK is great for children, it's not too intense and doesn't have any crazy loops or strong G-forces which makes many people sick on Cosmic Rewind and Tron, so keeping a less intense coaster is a good thing. Also, for people who can't fit on the Tron coaster, they can put a special bigger-and-normally-seated car on the Tron coaster, where you don't have to get on the bike to ride it, so big people can still ride the Tron coaster, similar to how the Cinderella Carousel has a seated vehicle for people who can't get on the merry-go-round horses.
Space Mountain Disneyland is also beloved and a complex structure as well. I just think it's too complex and costly to redo these rides, especially when they're as iconic and popular as they already are, so the reason why Tokyo Disneyland is redoing there's is because they want a Cosmic Rewind-style ride, and they don't have much physical space. Basically, Cosmic Rewind is the new version of Space Mountain that people are asking for at Walt Disney World, no need for another. I could see them adding bigger screens at Space Mountain Disneyland, maybe, but otherwise, I don't see the need to redo that ride, since it's mostly the same as Cosmic Rewind already.
Another good reason for Disney to raise prices again.
This new Space Mountain will be Amazing!! 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🕺🏽😊💜
Change and moving forward in time is what Walt meant when he said disney land will never be complete. It has to change and keep up with the new technology and generations
great update. the first time I went to MK in Florida was in 1977. The best ride was Space Mountain. I still remember how excited I was when I rode it. With space exploration still very much alive, I would love an updated version with keeping with the space theme. I hope it's side by side seating because the existing cars are hard to get into. I would also hope that the ride is a bit longer and maybe a take off like Rockin Roller Coaster. And finishing like the People Mover where you get to experience more of space. How neat would it be that you just took off to a distant planet and now you there.
Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them and your balanced point of view
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Jack, you ought to check out the Sluurp trailers; I already did. They display footage and custom montages of possible upcoming continuum movies and original shows.
How do you not have Ric Flair in that opening supercut?!
YOU WANNA RIDE SPACE MOUNTAIN, YOU BETTER GET IN LINE BABY *WOOOOOOOOO*
I love WWE, and so I know all too well that WWE have very strict copyright claims and I didn’t want to test it. I
Do not remove the cool Stuff from Florida's version. The music at the begining...EPIC! The star tunnel! The Exit which is the last bastion of scenes of future living left in Disney Parks, The cool part where it goes past the lift hills, Just bring back the open ceilings in the queue and its perfect.
It makes perfect sense for Tokyo to take the omni coaster concept for a rethemed/refurbished space mountain. And as long as they don't put it in a giant blue box like Guardians, I'm sure it will be loved! I would love something besides the boring dark inside WDW's Space Mountain, but I am not sure how I feel about making it an omni-coaster. Every year a little bit of my nostalgia is killed, it is hard to part with...😕
Headed to WDW tommorrow - my daughter was just saying about how Space mountain is just too rough and makes her sick, this update would be fantastic for visitors at WDW. however in true Disney fashion they will probably use a 2.0 version of the Gaurdians ride system. Not sure how you could hear our discussion Jack - but thanks for the awesome content.
This is awesome! Space mountain is great! Making it even better is great news!
Was at Orlando recently - Space Mountain felt deeply out of date, rundown, and in desperate need of a significant upgrade. Tomorrowland generally feels stale and oddly old. And that motortrack-raceway-thing needed to go 20 years ago. Come on Disney! Open up your wallets and get imagineering!
Space Mountain is my absolute favourite Disney ride ever. I really hope if they do decide to change the coaster in some ways, make it minor or just please don't redo the whole ride. It's too iconic and a lot of people like the ride just the way it is.
Disney Paris should resort to original theme as that was simply stunning to ride.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I LOVE the idea Tokyo has come up with! It's time. IK people in the states - especially those close to the Anaheim location are largely against changes to the more popular rides. But Cast Members have called Space Mountain "Break Down Mountain" for YEARS now and on top of that space travel is no longer a new or exciting thing in our society. Plus I love the look of the new show building, it'd look GREAT next to TRON Lightcycle: Power Run! What they could change the story to IDK. But if it were up to me EPCOT has always seemed like a knock-off Tomorrowland so I'd put Cosmic Rewind inside of the new show building and add two tracks like Disney World's Space Mountain. Hell, if it were up to me or rather if I had could build my own Disney Park I'd combine all the ideas from Tomorrowland, World Celebration, World, Discovery, and World Nature to create a quintessential Tomorrowland.
I grew up down the street from Disneyland and I'm closer to Disneyland and Disney world but you know how I think? Please keep your assumptions and thoughts as your own opinions cause you only speak for your f****** self and not the rest of everyone else!
I agree it would look perfect next to Tron especially with the multiple levels of paths too. Even if they keep the ride the same I’d love to see Magic Kingdom get a cosmetic update like this for the exterior at least
The original does need an update
Cosmic Rewind ride system with a classic theme & an OLC-level facade?!? I can't think of anything more perfect
Thanks!
I think all the space mountains should be upgraded except for the one in California at Disneyland that was to keep is nostalgia like it is so if anybody wants to go see what the original ever look like they have that one all the others need to be upgraded and future eyes.
The one in Disneyland isn’t the original. The Florida one opened in 1975 Dls opened in 1977
This looks amazing ❤❤❤❤❤
Jack, great subject matter everyone loves Space Mountain. WDW needs to update their Space Mountain. A new track for a smoother and faster ride, update the rocket (make it a retro version), and add special effects like projections. Try to complete that in 1-2 years. I think Tokyo Disney’s Space Mountain looks amazing, but, we don’t have to do that here. I’m sure there are new attractions on the horizon the Imagineers are cooking up; I’m hoping for a fifth gate 😀. Keep up the good work! PS - Have you given more thought to making the DSNY Newscast pins available for everyone?
Jack, Hong Kong's Space Mountain is feeling neglected.
Very interesting!!! Does New Space Mountain into Disneyland, Cali, and Walt Disney World, Fl ti future?
Make another coaster and keep the OG one as is. It's too iconic
The concept artwork looks a lot like a Tron derivative design language. I wish Disney would get busy and re-do Anaheim's Tomorrowland. It sorely needs it
HYPERSPACE MOUNTAIN 4 LYF
I’d love to see the styling of Tron Influence future styling of Tomorrowland at MK
I would like to interject that the 2005 refurbishment of Disneyland's Space Mountain was due to the track being rusted out. Major components of the superstructure were were falling apart and they had to gut the ride and rebuild it or have it close/break down.
It wasn't for any other reason than that- poor maintenance for 30 years.
The timing for it to open was due to Disneyland's 50th Anniversary.
I truly thought the same thing…once tron opens then that should be enough to ATLEAST refurb the track or anything at all. But then we also have splash mountain going through a massive identity overhaul. So if there’s ever a slight bit of hope that they’ll refurb space it won’t be until a bit after tianas ride is open. There’s no way they’ll have the two biggest ride at MK right now close. Plus Disney has been saying all this smoke bout ride refurb…like spaceship earth
Sounds exciting!
As long as they keep some kind of the iconic spiers I'm all for it 😁
I wish all the American Disney parks would stop with the paint a new wall every three months and hope people notice thing they do. A full overhaul is what I’ve been waiting for. Sad that the OLC can do it but not at DLR or WDW. I mean like stitch has been empty for how long?🙄
Walt Disney World's Space Mountain can be upgraded into a 2000's theme.
I have ridden space mountain probably more then any other ride in all of WDW. It’s not my favorite roller coaster at the park but due to the many late nights my brother and I spent there. Then I moved to Orlando 10 years ago and have ridden it hundreds of times since then. I know during the 24 hour event we rode it at least 20 time that night.
I CANT WAIT :)
The new Space Mountain will be located at the back of the current Space Mointain, that's why that lot was already active. Then, the new Tomorrowland Plaza will be located at the old Space Mountain.
If *Disneyland* ever got the new Space Mountain like in Tokyo, they probably would have to level Tomorrowland altogether. Then *Disneyland* would finally get their *New Tomorrowland* (but I believe it will never happen in my lifetime). They have been talking about New Tomorrowland for a long time now and let's say in January 2023 I will be 5 Decades plus 7 Years Old.
Ive been on Space Mountain at Disneyland, Disneyworld, and Paris. Disneyland one with the refurbishment in early 2000’s is so much better then DW’s and Paris. For example at DL its two seaters instead of bobsled style at DW.
Disney worlds should be restored as is almost back to its opening day form and preserved as a piece of history. It should not be changed. We wouldn’t have the versions we have today if it weren’t for the original. Floridas should be kept original and go back to the open load areas, glow in the dark rockets and silent space. No music. Just classic old fashioned fun
Let’s go! bout time
They really should keep space mountain but completely gut it and make a new indoor coaster
I don’t know how else to get in touch with the app developer but, the DSNY app stopped working about a week ago.
DLP hyperspace mountain is significantly better than either usa space mountain
I just rode Orlando's early this year, and sure it was good in the 1980s, but now it's a rattling mess! Big thunder was still enjoyable though, awesome back row! I like your ideas though jack mi boy!
Well I always forget about Disneyland Paris Space Mountain!
”Tron VS Gslactic Rewind - Space Mountains Revenge”. Or something. J.
Anybody else think the concept art of Space Mountain looks like a giant soft serve ice cream?
A retracking after the 50th anniversary 2025 is planned.
The holiday overlay will be power electronics music told me a CM
I just hope they keep the same aesthetic like the music and the light effects
Tron in Florida being plunked down right next to DisneyWorld's Space Mountain is a strange choice. Shanghai Disneyland has a huge futuristic and beautiful garden you walk through that makes you feel like you're entering the Tron world. When Tron opens in DisneyWorld, Space Mountain will feel old and outdated - I'm thinking of a Disney ghetto. -Frank
Could they dig deeper and bury part of the ride below ground to use the same track but not lose the site lines?
The movie would have to do real well in order for Disney to justify any change to the attraction. Most likely that isn't going to happen with their current track record on attraction-based movies. They really wanted a lightyear overlay and that didn't turn out well. Also, any storyline or special effects that Tokyo Disneyland implements will be exclusive to them for at least 5 years before the other parks could utilize it. So, I don't see Space Mountain changing anytime soon. I do see a refurbishment for Walt Disney World after Tron opens, but no major changes.
I love the original in Disneyland but would welcome an upgrade. I think the launch technology used for Incredicoaster and the Space Mountain in France needs to be incorporate into the California version. An expanded track and building with some upgraded track rolls and turns would be great as well. Lastly, a new narrative would be good and begin to separate Tomorrowland from the Galaxy's Edge narrative.
While a update would be nice, I like the wild mouse ride. Not ever roller-coaster needs to be death defying or cause motion sickness.
I can’t wait to see what the do with space mountain. I’ve always felt that the original design was dated. This ride is much overdue for a new modern design
I love the structure redesign, but I hate the idea of changing it from “exploring space” to “viewing our world.”
I live on on earth, and I view it from the surface most days. I’ve never vacationed to other planets though, and as a child, the post ride section always excited me about the idea of visiting far off planets.
Instead of taking us to deep space to see the beauty of the universe, they’re putting us into orbit to chill with the satellites.
I heard about this and said I need to go to Tokyo! As of now I'm planning 2030 so that if there are delays it should still leave a big enough buffer to where the crowds flocking to this new Tomorrows die down.
In Tomorrowland, the classic Space Mountain ride will be closed for refurbishment and make way for a new revamped version of Space Mountain ride at Tokyo Disneyland?
Could someone please tell me WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
Here’s the thing…all the Space Mountains in the different parks DON’T NEED to look alike, DLP proved that decades ago. I think at the very least WDW’s Space Mountain will get an internal upgrade. Much of the tech from GotG could be used, a new track is desperately needed. Projection mapping would work very well of course. Beyond that I doubt they’d mess with the external appearance of the building, it’s too iconic. Bring a new nighttime lighting package. They’ve been doubling down on the original 1971 look of Tomorrowland which Space Mountain’s look ties directly into.
As much as the original is a classic, I really like the new design. I always said a new space mountain would be a Vekoma family launch coaster similar to Tron or guardians
In terms of wdw idk, is it a bit much to have Tron, guardians & then a new space mountain similar to both of them. Either way I’m really excited about it
Thanks Jack thanks square space😀👍🏼
I've finally made it, I have a Squarespace sponsorship!
I hope this doesn’t happen to the wdw one its too iconic
2027. I'll be so old then. Jack will be like "I've been Jack, you've been you and Ow! My back!".
I will be 36 years old! Scary to think about how long it will take to complete this project. And yet people complain about Disney's projects taking forever in he USA.
@@DSNYNewscast I'm that age now. Oh that's upsetting.
How long would a make over to the us versions take, 10 years? Tron which is a clone to the Shanghai park will be completed 5 years after breaking ground.
Here's hoping. It wasn't ready for the 50th. And it's taken Walt's beloved railroad out of commission ever since they broke ground on it.
Don’t worry about them doing it at Disney World, if they do you won’t see it. As long as it has taken them to build Tron if they update MK space mountain your grandkids may see it. Give me a break.
SPACE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
