- A crowd of people, some weeping, gathered at a rain-soaked amusement park in South Korea to bid farewell to a beloved giant panda before her departure to China on Wednesday.
Fu Bao has been a major attraction at the Everland theme park near Seoul since she was born there in 2020 to pandas Ai Bao and Le Bao, who came from China in 2016 on a 15-year lease program.

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical issue regarding the first giant panda born in Korea, named "Fu Bao."
Fu Bao was born on July 20, 2020, and grew up receiving immense love from the Korean people. Despite her popularity, Fu Bao had to be returned to China before turning four years old, in accordance with the agreement on the conservation and loan of pandas to enhance diplomatic relations. The entire Korean nation bid her a tearful farewell, hoping she would lead a healthy and happy life in China.
However, less than two months after her return, alarming incidents have come to light. Photos have surfaced showing Fu Bao with marks indicating the use of a collar and muzzle. During her quarantine period, which was not yet publicly disclosed, it appears that people were allowed to feed and touch her barehanded in exchange for money. The conditions she is in are appalling, with Fu Bao being kept on dirty cement floors reminiscent of pigsties, provided with dried bamboo, and showing signs of severe stress or possibly viral-induced hair loss around her neck and back.
There is also a concerning hole on her forehead that has been growing larger, and muscle spasms have been observed in her neck when she receives food from the zookeepers. There are claims that these symptoms are the aftermath of abuse involving electric shocks. Moreover, photos show evidence that her crucial sensory whiskers have been deliberately cut.
Please help bring global attention to Fu Bao's plight. If such horrific things are happening to this well-known panda, it is likely that other pandas are suffering even worse conditions. Fu Bao’s once bright eyes are now lifeless, and she struggles to eat properly. To accommodate visitor interactions, she is not being fed the appropriate bamboo diet and is instead given foods like apples and carrots, leading to abnormal white feces.
We need to save Fu Bao. She is deteriorating. Please expose this situation to the world. China is violating the Washington Convention by subjecting pandas to illegal practices for visitor interactions. Please help save Fu Bao.

the facility in Sichuan is waaaay better than in South Korea. the South Korea enclosure is small and too man made, meanwhile the one in Sichuan was big, and a natural enclosure, just like their wild habitats but well protected. if Fu Bao stays in South Korea, she would have no one to mate, and Panda is endangered animal. China was doing the job to ensure Panda to not extinct with no one willing to help but themself. but now that Panda got famous because of KungFu Panda and for their cuteness, countries trying to get a hold of Pandas lol
also, panda is used for diplomatic agreement. if you don't want panda to get used like a "circus" like you said, you should tell your country not to do that diplomatic agreement using a panda. if a country want to borrow a panda, they had to have a diplomatic relation with China. but if a country wanted to have diplomatic relation to China, they don't have to borrow a panda. simple, but countries want the former, so 🤷🏻♀️
First of all, Pandas were given to other countries from China to enhance the relationship between the countries, China doesn't give Pandas so easily even some countries tried for over 10 years and still failed to get one. Secondly, Pandas taken back from China is not for money purposes. In South Korea has no such nature place to rise Pandas and Pandas are endangered animals and it is the national animal of China, so they are well protected and cared. It is forbiden to hurt or hunt pandas in China. Yeah there are strict laws that protect Pandas way strict than US protecting their citizens. They can't live in such small place for their rest of live to entertain people, they have to learn how to live like real animals as well.

I'd like the Chinese authorities to rethink the way they view pandas. They call them their 'national treasures' on the one hand, on the other hand they consider pandas as their 'property'. I agree with the former, but I disagree with the latter claim. Pandas and all other wild animals 'belong to nature'. We humans have taken away so many animals' territories. The consequences are, as we all know, lots of endangered species on earth, one of which is adorable innocent pandas with full of charms. Their use of the word 'property' contradicts what they mean by 'national treasure'. It sounds like they think of pandas as an object, not a creature 'with life'. I've seen some documentaries on China's conservation effort in (north)western provinces and found it praiseworthy -especially the protection of snow leopards- but I can't say the same for the care of pandas. Please select the best people - those who genuinely love pandas- not those who think pandas are only an 'object of their observation and experiment'. If you truly care about pandas, you don't shout at them nor throw food at them. The Chinese government must be more vigilant in protecting and safeguarding pandas, their national treasure and our delight to see. You definitely cherish 'treasure', but not necessarily 'property'. You can sell property or even do harm, or do whatever you like with it. Their choice of the word 'property' reveals how they have thought of pandas. Maybe that's why some keepers/breeders keep treating pandas roughly and ordering them around like a robot. I really hope the Chinese authorities make a substantial effort in making pandas' lives better and teaching both new and old panda staff to respect pandas and treat them with great care and love.
