    Actually, I believe you've heard Scott sing even lower...it was he who picked up the bass line in Hallelujah when Avi sang that second verse. He has amazing versatility and a very, very wide range. I had to chuckle when I saw you get the goose bumps with Scott's final verse...I've seen this video probably 100 times, and it does that to me too...every single time.

    You're kind of right in that "we don't get that much from them" with Matt going to bass there. Even with Avi, Pentatonix is way more sparing it putting in low and high notes. They do it for sure, and to great effect, but way less than the other big acapella groups. Which is honestly one of the reasons I personally prefer them to the other groups. The other groups tend to pull me out of the performance with too high or low notes or different shown off techniques. Still very impressive and I get why other people might love it. But personally I'm very fond of Pentatonix very intentional use of tricks and moments, leaving space for an easy listening experience while still being kind of "undercover technically impressive" at points.

    • @grischad20
      @grischad20 Před rokem +4

      i disagree, pentatonix just tends to shines on the high register with mitch more so than the low one. whereas a voiceplay or a home free will leave some place for the bass to bass, pentatonix gets their umph with higher notes than either of the other groups (i'm not even counting Kirstin) but they're just as showy with their technically impressive stuff
      It also kinda makes sense, out of the 3 they're the only group with a very high tenor and a woman, a big drop would be that much bigger since they hold the line higher

    • @kayecastleman6353
      @kayecastleman6353 Před rokem +5

      I agree with you. Pentatonix tends to play a cooler game, holding their best cards for those spectacular moments when they are most impactful, and often sliding them in where you might miss them if you aren't paying attention. I think a lot of that comes from the broad range of musical training Kevin and Avi had at the get-go, plus the genius of Ben Bram, of course. If you watch their early performances on the Sing-Off, they're really all over the place trying to show off everyone's talent. It didn't take them long to sort out the 'less is more' principle, and now we wait expectantly for those exquisite displays of unique skill they slide into a masterfully crafted arrangement. The low bass notes don't ring my bell like Mitch or Kirstie's highs, but they do make my belly tremble, just a little! 🙂

    • @PtxXtp
      @PtxXtp Před rokem

      @@grischad20 I agree with Rebecca. You tend to see home free and voiceplay using their highest of the highs and lowest of the lows almost as a show off moment where as Ptx uses them more sparingly and where it will highlight the music. Ptx may come across as highlighting the highs more but part of it is that’s Mitch’s natural singing voice. Usually singing in same octave as Kirstie. Where tenors in the other groups can hit the notes but it’s not their main register. They have lower speaking voices where Mitch’s is naturally higher resulting in a higher placement when he sings.

      @lengould9262 Před rokem +5

      Imagine being the arranger of these expert vocalists! Get them to individually sing it through their way, notate each one. Merge the notations together, then after their first run-through ask Kirsten "so on the 3rd and 4th beats of the fifth bar of the second chorus, could you add a pullout from the harmony and drop 3 semi-tones?" A chuckle runs round the group because they know she was planning to cook Easter dinner but she just nods, grins and kicks Mitch lightly in the shin under the desk. He responds with a dramatic Shakespearean death scene, winds up on his back on the floor with Kirsten on top beating him mercifully with open fists and a big grin.

    Loved the reaction, I always enjoy informed commentary on how good they are! New subscriber in the hope that Pentatonix will continue to be in the mix. You’re right (of course you are) that Scott has tremendous range. He released his first solo recently, called Mars, in which his range is totally on exhibit. If you decide to react to it, you may want to include the teaser he released just beforehand. It’s an a capella snippet of the song that shows what a vocal beast he is. The teaser is called Mars Now Available Everywhere or something close to that. I’m off to check out Amazing Grace. Peace from Ohio …

    This version is my second most favorite version of this song (1. Disturbed: Live on Conan 2016; 2. this one; 3. Simon & Garfunkel :Live in NYC). I love the harmonies here and Scott blew it out of the park on this one. Loved your spot-on analysis (as always) Jen. I count on you providing me with new insight whenever I view your reaction/analysis videos and you delivered as expected. Thanks for what you do!

    I love your reactions. Just found you and am up at 2:25AM, can't sleep, and I keep saying one more. This is probably my favorite PTX song (prolly cuz I'm old). Honestly your analysis goes over my head as I cannot sing. I cannot carry a tune at all. But you are fascinating. Your knowledge and passion have me mesmerized. I mean it's like watching how astronauts train to go the moon. I know I'm never going to be an astronaut, but am still fascinated by it. With you, I know I will never be a singer, or sing well for that matter, but still you have me wanting to hear about it and how these singers do what they are doing. Thank you for the energy you put into these videos.

    Thanks Michelle32855, the group never stop to improve but as you're pointed out, nobody seems to notice Scott' base line , which not only add to the group but give him a new stance

    Jen just love 💕 your reactions of PTX….This song is perfection in my mind. I’m pretty sure Ben Bram does their arrangements. Can’t wait for another reaction. You know there is over 100 PTX songs to reacted to. The Lion King will blow your mind…..You are now a true Pentaholic. Judy D

      It's not really that Ben does the arrangements (I guess some), they more do it as a group together with him. They are all very involved in the creation of the arrangements.

  • @isinlarsa5996

    The five of them collaborate on arranging, but there is a sixth member --Ben Bram, who does a lot of their arranging and producing. He met Scott in college, and was instrumental in forming Pentanonix.

  • @margretrosenberg420
    @margretrosenberg420 Před rokem

    As a general rule, all five of them will participate when they're arranging, but the primary arranger is usually Ben Bram, sometimes known as "the sixth member of Pentatonix." If there's a dispute I believe that Ben's judgment is the one they're most likely to depend on. Each member knows his or her voice best, so it's important for each member to be consulted, especially on that member's solos.
    There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. When it's an original song the primary arranger will be the composer, for instance.

    Scott is a baritone that has a w i d e range to his voice. Pentatonix states that they do not produce music that they cannot perform live with the same sound. When Avi would take the lead, Scott would cover the base line, he also does it when Matt takes the lead.

    Great reactions. You are the best. So much more ptx ,ateerial needs your analysis. Prayers for the world is one run to you another and mad world too. Imagine a high school,choir with Scott Mitch and Kirstie in it… arlington texas had these three. The arrangements are a secret sauce of this group,and Ben bram was the one telling Scott the arlington trio,neeeded a bass and beat boxer to compete and the rest is history, Ben was an arranger for the show they won. I believe he just married Kirstie too. So close tight family group.

    Scott is doing the bass line, I saw them do it live and not looping track involved, They Pride themselves on being able to do all or at least most of their songs live and have it sound just like the recordings

    Jennifer! Missed the live stream but I'm here! So in this one, at 10:05, listen to Matt sing " ... songs, that voices never shared ...". He hits, I think you said it was an F# on "songs". The original song goes up two more notes on "that voices" but Matt chooses not to. Like someone chose to do with "the world" in a cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World I heard somewhere. 😁 So was it an artistic choice by Matt or did he just not feel comfortable going up those 2 more notes? Maybe close to his transition point? I can't blame him though, the man is an incredible bass! Anyway just something I've always noticed in this performance. Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊

      Good point! Hahah, yes, way too low for me…! We’ve got to remember that all voices are different and rather than do something that another singer has done, if it feels odd or isn’t showcasing your voice at its best, change it up! 😊

    Avi did something similar in the No video. He would lean back and turn his head to the side when he went really low. I thought it was to get different intensity on bass line
