This is truly the best of Saturday night live right here. Weird, creative, slightly crazy and wonderful. This cast was one of the best of the best.

The one with Christopher Wauken talking about doing "Shin-shee Shin-Shee" always gets me.thinking of it days later, and laughing 😃 out loud usually in public 🤣 . As people step aside fearful of laughing lunatic man.
CW was in two of these sketches that I know of. One with Maya Rudolph and one with Ana Gasteyer. Both hilarious!

I happened to spot Rachel at a bus stop in Midtown. It took me a second to process who she was but when I figured it out this big smile came across my face and she sort of smiled and blushed, kindred spirits recognizing each other. I leave celebrities be and we went on our way.

Absolutely love these characters. So funny. With so many past SNL cast members making cameos and guest hosting, I wonder why SNL doesn't occasionally surprise us with random reprises of gems like this with Ferrell, Dratch and a couple current cast members, for example. Seems like wasted opportunities. Can think of several bits people would love to see randomly revived now and then just for the hell of it.

The late 90s early 2000s cast of: Farrell, Parnell, Gasteyer, Poehler, Dratch, Hammond etc. was arguably best ever
So spectacular casting especially since they had a hard act to follow: Sandler, Farley, Spade, Schneider, Myers, Hartman, Nealon, Carvey and Rock.

No Sandler era was better more consistent. Sure the Ferrell era had sketches like this but also far more duds recurring sketches which I just skipped over every time, Boston teens were only occasionally somewhat funny, the fictional webcam show with Fallon in dreads feels very dated, Mary Katherine Gallagher overrated, the Canadian radio hosts or whatever they were supposed to be (gasteyer Shannon and a guest host) skipped every time, ladies man, cheerleaders, gasteyer and Ferrell doing the singing couple on stage, Ferrell's nude art model guy. Some Kattan stuff also wore out it's welcome, notably Mango (can't be the only one that fast forwarded a lot of those sketches), I can't really figure out what was that funny about Mango, celebrities fall in love with him that's the "joke" I guess?? Some of the mr peepers stuff was quite funny, other was quite redundant. Antonio Banderas talkshow a dud, goth talk only occasionally funny (mainly when Breuer and Farley were beating up Kattans annoying emo freak), Christmas band thing didn't get it, Geminis twins was that funny? Lorne is partly blame for this since it seems he chose these sketches over better ones like Ferrell's gold prospector guy
I remember watching this skit and thinking Will Ferrel was actually on fire and he was going off-script. His acting was so good and so in the moment! Ditto for Rachel Dratch who got off him and fled like a bat out of hell. It all seemed so real back then, and I felt for her. But then when I rewatch this clip, thanks to CZcams, I see the smoke special effects added just before he said that, and it wasn't in fact the fire from the fireplace growing stronger; rather, it was the illusion of that fire spilling out of the fireplace and onto the hearth, due to the special effect of the smoke. Which makes me even more impressed with the acting on both their parts.
