As a plumber I've been in situations like this . I got called out to investigate a sewage smell coming from the crawl space under a house. Didn't even get under the house when I saw the broken waistline apparently had been dumping under the house for years the soil under the house it turned into a mixture of sewage mud I pushed the shovel into it and it went in about 3 feet before I got in real resistance there was no way that I was crawling into that I called the health department and the house ended up getting condemned. Fortunately the the people that live there were renting and we're able to find a new home . The owner was negligent and absent and ignored their request for repairs he got what he deserved .
You gotta know when to fold um. Know when to walk away, Know when to run. Great lesson everyone.
Raw sewage!!!! Time to go .. no charge have a nice day mam
Wow, what a disgusting place. Good move bailing on that one. You don’t need work like that in your life.
Yep, I think that they need to consider window units.
Sell em a mini split instead.
@@user-ln7of9gs4s yup least they'll get heat too
We are not obligated to take every job offered, nor to serve all customers.
Thats one methed up house!
Lol.
When your condenser unit is worth the same or more than your trailer 🤦♂️
Not hard when the trailer is absolutely worthless.
As soon as i saw the siding on the grass i would of left. It don't cost anything to be clean, these people don't care, probably the type of people who throw trash out the window when driving.
Raw sewage is a deal breaker, smart...You can't help others if you get sick
The return came out of the unit and went straight up into the floor. Pretty hard to miss. But I also understand wanting to get out of there. I worked for a government program that provided heating and cooling to qualifying low income families and we dealt with that same filthy situation on a regular basis. The things my eyes can’t unsee. Stay safe
Yep. Literally a 90 degree elbow.
Typical of 80s trailer design.
Yeah I mean either you’re saying he’s blind or he just intentionally didn’t intend on finding it
@@guitarstitch My exact crappy set up under my trailer.
Oh, at the 10:00 mark. I see it now but I missed it the first time.
I'd call the health department because of the raw sewerage. They actually have charitable organizations that help repair, and clean up places like that.
.. That is a Good Idea .. Some folks just simply do not have the money to improve their lives ..
@@donaldpedigo296 That's ridiculous. There's NO excuse to live in dirt and mess. That's the one thing today's America has different than in the earlier 1900's - even dirt poor people were clean. They had one good set of clothes - to go to church.
@@maddierosemusic .. You're Young .. "White" .. "Privileged" & "Socially Retarded" .. You've gotta Get-Out of Your Comfort-Zone and spend a few-hours each-week, helping people who live below the "official" Poverty-Line .. Best-to-You ..🥰🙏😇
I would tell home owner I couldn't help them and why. I would give them information on who they could contact. I would NEVER involve another party, unless children were there and in jeopardy. It's not your job to be the class room monitor. Arrive, access, advise, that's it.
@@maddierosemusic Lot's of people have mental issues.
This should not be left to some charity, but proper government should step in.
You seem to be looking with really warped glasses at the past.
Wow that was something else
Had to laugh because I once had pretty much the same situation, except there was a dead animal, possibly a opossums, in the puddle of sludge. I didn’t walk away. I RAN as fast as I could.
When I first became a Technician my first job was in residential I learned real fast it wasn't for me.
I moved in facilities and I work for a company with eight properties much nicer.
I never have to worry about going to a home owned by a hoarder I hated that.
I had a brief job with a residential company that also does plumbing. I went to school for HVAC and was hired for HVAC. They decided they were gonna keep putting me with the plumber to help him and some of the jobs involved clogged toilets and sinks. I didn't stay there very long and I swore to myself that I'd never take a job anywhere else that would put me into those types of situations. Still trying now to find a job I'll be happy with that isn't residential.
@@CountryRock2k1 Commercial or facilities management is the greatest.
The ammonia guys I know in industrial food plants have it MADE.
@@crabmansteve6844 yeah, that's the plan, but haven't had any luck finding a place that will work with someone like me who is still fairly green to this field.
@@CountryRock2k1 Find a half decent company just to get some experience. I have seen some pretty shitty places that people call home sweet home in my 37 yrs. in the field. One company did not want to turn down anything, I found out that when letting mgmt know of some of the crap , they said to call for back up to verify it. Told us to walk away from anything that might be a health hazard.
I’m a nurse who also is 608 certified etc.. this is why I don’t do homecare
Im a carpenter and ive seen the same...be safe out there brother
Think happy thoughts, Curtis!
Hi Curtis 😊😊 I got to help replace a txv this morning and almost had to crawl under a tralier til the job was canceled!!
Did the right thing
My old boss would have just said, "Go back to the shop and get some plastic". Nonsense like that is why I am my own boss now.
I am glad you Backed away.
The wide range of socioeconomic conditions of the houses on this channel are so interesting...from really nice homes, to this.
Yes, the USA of today is definitely having some issues. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
You can have a very cheap house/apartment and still keep it clean. No excuse for this regardless of how poor you are.
@@OShackHennessy im assuming the owner bought it recently, i do cut ins in norcal most of my work the clients get it paid for by the gov and ive seen things just as bad as this in trailerparks somepeople have no excuse while some are too old and disabled and dont drive
@@OShackHennessy *sigh*...Its so disappointing to hear people especially Americans make arguments like this. Do you really think the people living in this trailer have the ability to install a proper septic system.
If you live in an apartment, you certainly have no control over the common elements of the building.
Unless your "issue" with the situation depicted is the mess in their place and you think that the lack of a proper sanitary system is fine.
@@DanielBrotherston I think they can control at least part of their situation can they not? You going to give them a pass for living in complete filth no matter how bad?
That's what we call a pig sty. I also will not do any work that involves coming in contact with raw sewage.
I’m shocked you didn’t run into any snakes with all the tin and trash laying around
I thought that tube he threw near the beginning was one at first haha
good call!!!!
I don't blame you I would have turned around to👍
I dont blame you for walking away cause when i become an hvac guy if i was too see i would have just walked away too
The outside unit looked fairly new. Looked about like my nephews unit I worked on. Nasty
When I was in my early 20s, 5 guys that were friends of my Brother and I rented one side of a run-down duplex. It had a smell that was a mixure of Shit and old Food. Everybody called it *"The Dump"* 😵
Don't blame you one bit for walking away from that mess. Looks like it had an old Coleman gas pack originally. That was reason enough to hit the road LOL I'm not so sure you shouldn't have ran away from that LOL. The leaking sewer was the deciding factor for me :)
That's not a "Coleman gas pack'. It was the original Coleman gas furnace. If it had a/c with it, that would make it a split system. Only 2 types. Package unit or split system.
That return should dry that up in no time!! 😅
28+ years as a LEO revealed MANY situations where folks lived like that.
A tech that taught me most of what I know told me at some point you need to walk away or you just might become married forever to this machine. best advise, it still happened a couple times. I felt bad customer did not have the money to replace it, just be clear it might not last very long. thanks Curtis
Fun fact: grasshoppers and locusts are the same animal. Locust swarms are created when the males get into too tight of an area and their legs start rubbing together which triggers the swarm.
Once you see a toilet in the yard, it's time to leave 😅
Lol. And a door laying in the yard.
I would have pulled up and backed out right away clearly a health hazard
yes brother i do love 2 sniff my feces nd i like 2 dump in the palm or storage container but the sweage is not so great rly
Run Curtis Run!
The return is pulling from under the subfloor and from the looks of it someone replaced all the sub floors but probably never put in return vents like it was from the factory. That whole place should have been condemned.
I’ve had the same situation to me last summer but didn’t realize it was sewage until my boots were stirring it up lol
How some people live or manage to live still amazes me, I am a retired respiratory therapist, I couldn’t handle some of the home situations and worked out of a hospital.
Some people are just degenerates and dont give a damn about their living conditions. It always disgusts me.
Being poor is not a excuse for being a disgusting human being.
@@sinjin8576
Amen
I’m glad that you walked away. Not worth risking your health. I’m thankful that we do not get into those type of places.
Ive seen worse living conditions, but what makes this so sad is that the ac unit is worth more than the home.
Unfortunately, people living like this is not as uncommon as you might think. There was a brief period in time where I thought I'd be a house flipper but I didn't have all the much to invest so I was buying these dirt cheap properties out in Pennsylvania. Literally was buying houses for a couple grand a pop. Well, there's a reason they're dirt cheap because they're ex-hoarders houses. I bought this house out in Mt. Carmel one time. Couldn't even walk through the front door, there was 4 feet of garbage that littered the whole house. Got the story from the neighbor that the lady that lived there was morbidly obese and basically lived on her couch and never left it. Literally, she'd lift the cushion on the couch and do her business right there under the cushion. All the feces and urine rotted out the floor and subfloor underneath and fell through into the basement. I guess it got to the point where it was too much so she started using plastic bags because she was too big to get up the stairs to the bathroom (which was the cleanest area in the whole house ironically enough because it wasn't being used). She passed away on that couch. Took years, but I cleaned it up and fixed it up and rented it out believe it or not. Property manager rented it out to a couple meth heads and they wrecked it on me so I sold it but still made an okay profit on it.
The things I've seen and how people live over the years, nothing shocks me anymore. It's sad, animals are living better than some people are out there.
being a landlord;best way to find out how disgusting ppl can be...and it's always worse than you could believe possible!
If I ever get like this just shoot me in the back of the head
Curtis , I have seen go into some pretty nasty stuff and always with Grace . I can’t see how people live like that but a lot do . As always you do your best to help but then there are times when have to draw the line and walk away !🤔
Yeah, gotta draw the line somewhere and raw sewage is the place to draw it.
Its crazy and sad how some people live. Trash hoarders are the worst. I've seen my fair share of this working in the RV business. The thing I don't understand is how this is just normal life for some people and how they can bring their trailer in for service with trash and other things I refuse to mention just thrown everywhere.
On a side note; I also watch another HVAC channel and that guy was called to house and it was filled with trash. The owner was pooping in a bucket in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I'm sorry but there no excuses for this. At least try to hide your shame before you bring someone in your place.
I have several siblings with vehicles packed with junk. No me. I don't understand it either and they are related.
Never apologize for calling out slobs and pigs. I remember my grandparents telling me about living in the Great Depression in the big cities, like Chicago for example. A lot of people were out of work but, in the poor sections of the city where a lot of eastern Europeans were living, they didn't have much but, their homes and apartments were CLEAN. They would find any old pot or box to put flowers in that the kids would collect. Just so the place looked like decent people lived there. To be called as a bad housewife was just unbearable and it made the husband look bad, as well.
@@BlackPill-pu4vi sometimes I feel like it's a mental issue and that's when I feel bad. Other times it's just laziness and not giving a F. Also sometimes people grow up in a household that was a mess and they continue the trend. I grew up with a kid that was exactly like this. Unfortunately it's was normal for him. All I know is I could never live that. Its kind of like you said, I might not have a shit ton of money but I try to make the best with what I have. It's a pride thing I guess.
There’s nothing wrong with pooping in buckets.
Which channel? Steve Lav?
We ALL have our Limitations and we Can’t Blame you a Bit for Reaching your Limit and walking (actually Driving) to the Next Job on your Busy Schedule. 🤔👍🙏
I have gotten bed bugs twice and fleas about five times from places like that. I no longer work for slobs
I didn’t see any vents maybe they’re covered up by the plywood on the floor
😳 makes me sad they live like that. Maybe they need to move back in with Mom & Dad.
I call that bulldozer bait
That ol boy should reevaluate his life circumstances
That place was a $hit hole.
It makes other $hit holes jealous. Lol.
I'm a mechanic and I've seen 100x worse than that trailer. I was called out to change the alternator on a 98 Ranger once, got to a horse farm to find the husband and wife waiting outside. Fixed the truck and they invited me for dinner, being polite I said ok and oh my god I entered the trailer and the air was STALE with cat piss. The floors had holes rotted straight through to the ground outside, there was PILES of cat sh*t at minimum a foot high just sitting in the kitchen. Several dead partially eaten cats lay on the floor. No AC of any kind in the 100F + arid New Mexico desert made the smell unbearable, it was inhumane the way they lived. I can still smell it...
.. You Did the Right-Thing .. That Place was Way-Too-Dangerous for You ..👍👍👍
Now we all understand why there is a civilian flame thrower on the market. Anywho... did you at least advise them to burn it down, and collect the .89 cents insurance so they could start anew?
Lol. The insurance would probably give them $5 and a can of gas to start the fire.
Need to pop an air freshener in the truck after a call like that
Run.... don't walk away from that job. Hope you took a shower afterwards. You should have called the Health Department.
Sad that some people live that way.
My worst customers, 35 years in. I rang the front door bell, the husband opened the door and the thick stench of cat urine hit me in the face, never smelled anything like it. I stepped in, and my eyes started to sting and water, the urine was that strong. I went to the truck and put on a chemical mask, and completed my 15 minute inspection. The homeowners sat on the couch reading a magazine like nothing was wrong. #2...I went to a different house to give an estimate for interior work, and the stench inside the house while standing at the front door hallway was so bad, I declined to enter-- don't even know what it was. I knew if we got the job the crew would refuse to go in there to work. #3... I went to an apartment, and an older lady answered the door. The airborne spore level and stench from mold in the inside air was so high, it was choking, like like inhaling smoke. I couldn't believe believe she could stand it. I went to the truck and put on a mold mask. She told me that no one would sit next to her at church because she smelled to strongly of mold. Water was seeping through the block walls that were below exterior grade soaking the carpet- for years. The landlord refused to pay to fix it and do a clean-up.
I think that package unit costs more than the house
I think the air filter cost more than the house.
Curtis was there any vent cut outs on the floor? Everything was covered with wood
I worked installing cable for 10 yrs. The worse case I saw was a guy wanted internet in his daughters room. Her desk was right next to her bed. Their cat had been shitting off the side of the bed near her pillow so much it was piled from the floor to the top of the mattress. It also was up around four inches over the nearest desk leg. I told the guy he needed to clean it up if I was to do anything near there :( I would of been fired if I had reported this to the police, Timewarner's policy was to never call the police on our customers :(
I think you made the only decision you could in those circumstances. It wasn't the tidiest place inside but having raw sewage underneath is asking for trouble. Maybe they got it at a 'special rate' but didn't know how bad the place really was? I don't know. I've seen some of the places you've visited and felt bad for you dealing with such unclean property and equipment left in such a poor state of repair. Very sad.
The Spy from TF2 would say "What a Disaster!"
WoW Curtis, i'm Pleased you gave that job a Big miss 😧
Been there, done that. When you are on a site that you know, you don't want to be back too, you can't take the job. Boy have a I learned that lesson the hard way
man i love this channel. this is some great content
Thanks for your videos Sir 🫡
That was a customer you needed to fire. Awful mess and terrible stench of raw sewage. How disgusting some folks are!
Well, at lease there were no snakes, alligators, or rats under that mobile home; that was a first class dump. 😎
They couldn't stand to live there either. Lol.
No comment great video 👍👍
Had a few calls over the years like this. One house in particular was so bad (the smell) that I uncontrollably threw up in the guys attic. House smelled like wet cat, feces, garbage and mold. I said I was sick, bailed and told the guy to call another company.
I've been in a few of those. I do not return.
This property should be referred to the "Tin Flipping for Snakes" channel
The snakes can't tolerate living there either. Lol.
How do people live like that. Nasty
Raw sewage is a deal breaker for me too! Also if I"m afraid the small roaches are going to get in my tool bag!!!
Awesome video! After seeing the electrical I would of walked off the job 😂😂😂
People shouldn't live like that, there are resources and organizations that will help them, all they need to do is ask for help. I don't blame you for walking away Curtis, I wouldn't jeopardize my health on a job like that.
You are ASSuming they even new sewage was leaking underneath.
@@mikeanonymous669 How could you not smell it?
All they need to do is ask for help? lol, so naive.
"Help" would only come in the form of an eviction and condemnation of the property. Nothing else. I remember when I was a kid, my mother had to swallow her pride and ask the Salvation Army for help, it was Christmas and we had no food, nothing. They straight-up told her "NO, they only offer assistance to people on welfare." They literally refused to help her because she had the audacity to be one of the working poor instead of another welfare statistic. That is just one of many such examples I can give.
BTW, today my mother is 64 and making just over $100k a year and she's still angry. She tells the Salvation Army people collecting money to go f*ck themselves when she walks past.
I thought that was a junk yard.
My word for sure.
Sparky here, Had a duplex a couple years ago, went to crawl under it and came across a load of needles. Told the owner i'd either walk away, or I was going to do things my way. He gave me the go ahead, and I wired the rest of the one side of the duplex by cutting an access hole in the middle of the apartment. The crawl entrance was like in the middle between the two units. Got the work done, put a piece of plywood back down, all gravy, but I'll never go in a crawl again without looking out for that. Jeeze. Don't blame you at all for noping out of this one!
I wouldn't have walked away I would have ran away as fast as I can.
That was sad but you did go the distance.....well done!
No! Don't go in that house!😮
Dam im kinda curious where the return is now😂
Go there and try to find it. Lol. They're probably still looking for help after all the local hvac guys gave up on it. 😅
Covered up with plywood, the subfloor os rotten out
I just snorted beer out of my nose at the 9 min mark when my man moved the dirty air filter and there was no return air. Keep up the good work brother!
that was the old dormant air handler
I sold kitchens a sales pitch on minnesota dr willow glenn ca they were cooking in a hugh pot with hugh roaches running around the pot/ I mean big.. acted like nothing wrong.. I did not put any thing down he was a contractor I ball parked and ran.. i itched for hours.. another was a home redo and roaches rat poop was all over owener didnt care?????? I sure did..
"Just walk away..." quoth Lord Humungus
Run!
I was waiting for a flesh eating zombie to jump out.
First, I appreciate you for not showing their faces and causing further embarassment. But, I've told people a hundred times, being poor doesn't mean you can't be clean. I remember listening to my great-grandfather as a kid, he talked about how they bathed in a creek and used an outhouse. They had one pair of school clothes that they washed and hung up every night. If they could do that nearly 100 years ago, these people have no excuse to be filthy.
WOW‼️
honestly, the air conditioner unit is worth more than the whole property 😕
I used to clean furnaces for the gas company in Minneapolis. Yep, that was pretty nasty but I'm sure you've seen worse. I was cleaning a dryer vent for one lady and pulled out 2 gerbils that were dehydrated with the tail sticking straight out. It was like 2 furry popsicles. The lady says, we were wondering where they went.
My favorite call was from a husband who hired his ex-brother-in-law to sand his floors and the guy didn't used a dust collector on the machine. Homeowner was freaking out. His wife was coming back from a week away and she hated the ex-Bro-in-law hahaha. I told him, you be screwed. I had to walk away from that one.
Wow. Someone is in survival mode. Sad
I feel bad for those people. May God bless them.
Must be nice to be privileged like you. Why do you dislike low income people they deserve respect and rights.
My worst nightmare, first that poor unit outside doesn't deserve to sit next to a place like this. And that pilot light Coleman? Yeah f that, I'd be out.
You know sometimes people are in that situation for a reason and it’s not because they can’t help it wow
It's going to be mental illness, addiction or laziness. Probably a combination of all three. Two young people like that should be more than able to work and should be able to afford at least a livable place.
