Song changed mad peoples lives for sure
đŻđ„Č
facts, and all over the world too. I'm from brazil and this song is easily one of my favorites, changed my life for sure
" i'll never fade away , i'll never fade away" as her voice faded away at the end of the verse ..
Blew my mind
shit almost made me cry, still does
This is my favorite song of all time in any genre. Itâs the realest shit Iâve ever heard and so many people could relate to it. Maybe not directly but they know people who are living these lives right now! His influence is insane.
The second verse is the sister of the woman he sang about on Keishaâs Song on Section 80. She got pissed at him for making that song, Keisha was a prostitute, and was raped and killed. Her sister got mad at him for making a song about it, and he doubled down. I donât know if the sister died too, but I do know that the dude talking to him on the first verse did get killed due to gang violence before he started to get big, so that line is extremely poignant. Survivors guilt is so real, in so many ways. This is one of the most potent songs ever written.
The sister got AIDS and died slowly; thatâs why her voice slowly faded away at the end. Thatâs also why she said she physically feels great, she was in denial when she found out she was sick and dying of aids and her fear made her double down âIâll never fade awayâ
@@Pinkpompoms591 man, honestly, I figured that with the fade-out, but never looked it up because I guess I didnât really want to know. But the implication there is pretty forthright, and thatâs what my assumptionâs always been. Well he sang about her. And it affected people. Shitâs important to talk about and illuminate
âSleep is a cousin of deathâ is an old saying, but was made famous by Nas on NY State of Mind
11:49 "Sleep is a cousin of death". Great ispiration from NaS in Illmatic.
also Shakespeare
âWhat if today was the rapture and you completely tarnishedâ is etched into my soul đ„ș
man, and he still lost the Grammy's to Macklemore - The Heist đ 100% bullshit
it makes sense, he was robbed đ
Right before you die it is common the people will ask these 3 questions, did I live, did I love, and did I matter, so I think he's being literal by asking all 3 with a single question "will you still sing about me". In this 1 question he ask all 3 because why would anyone sing about him if he did not live love or matter. If anything these are the only things to sing about, life/death, love/lust and what matters/what doesn't
Thereâs music and then thereâs this. I can still remember the first time I heard this song and Keishaâs song, shit dead ass changed how I listened to music.
There are leaders but they are drowned out by the others so they have to fight to have a voice .. the world donât want that they want mess .. but people like me keeps fighting !! Everything you said was on point !! How old are you ? You are rare!! GOD BLESS .. I have heard this song so many times I will forever be in love with this song been son it for years !! I love watching reactions like yours !! We need more people around like you đđđđđ
The intricacy of this song is on another level, itâs so damn powerful the way he used his lyrics to tell this story about his life and where he and his people come from. Itâs just on a whole different level than any POET, WRITER, ARTIST Iâve ever heard and probably will hear in my lifetime.
I think sleep is the cousin of death means that if your out here and not conscious of what's going on around you, your basically close to being dead. And this song is about his friend who died and the brother of his friend was the one kendrick was holding while he was bleeding from being shot. The second verse was about two sisters, one of the sister was raped and found dead and the sister is mad with kendrick because he spoke of her sisters death in the song call (Keisha's song)
Thereâs so many way that lines can be interpreted itâs my fav line in the song cause itâs so deep
Thatâs a Nas line from Illmatic.
Yo, i know it's been a while but you sorta interpreted it wrong. It's not about his brother. It's about the lives of people struggling to survive in an endless cycle of thirst.
The first verse is from the perspective of Dave. It makes more sense in the story of the Album (which i Recommend going into because it's amazing). Dave's brother is who died and Dave is thanking Kendrick for being there for him. You were right, Kendrick did hold him in his final moments but it was his brother, Dave is the one mourning, wanting Kendrick to sing about him when he's gone along with his brother. Kendrick saw him die and Dave wants to thank him for being there for him and being a real one.
The second verse is about Keisha's sister which you can hear she's mad that he put Keisha on blast on Kendrick album Section 80. She talks about how she lives the same life as Keisha and that the system put her in it but she can't do anything about it and is how she survives. She says she doesn't care what others think and that she will never fade away because she doesn't see wrong in her way of life while the song fades her voice our showing that she got the same fate as her sister representing a repeat in life that will never end.
Third verse is Kendrick speaking himself and reflecting on these two events in his life that did happen irl. He says how he wonders if he really is scared of passing away, how he wrote raps and wonders if it's worth it, will people remember him in the future if he kept going down that life? Kendrick says how he was a brotherto Dave's brother and that he did speak on Keisha but not to curse her bloodline like her sister believes. kendrick says basically how rap saved him and that because he rapped he saved her family and many others too, and how it saved him from being on the streets any longer.
Part 1 ends in people talking and one of them says he's tired of it all. He realized it's pointless, an endless cycle in the hood, one person kills one and then they kill someone else and it's revenge revenge revenge. It's pointless, like running no where.
Part 2 "I'm dying of thirst" is Kendricks prayer to the Lord to save him because he is desperate for a way out. He is dying in the hood, he knows he won't survive so he pleads for help. He is thirsty for something greater. God is what saved him from the streets and he shows it here.
The prayer at the end represents Kendrick and his brothers being free from the shackles of the lives they were living. It shows how even those deep into these types of lives can be saved whether it's by God or someone else.
I'm hoping u read this, because it helps Understand what i say is the greatest song of all time.
This has got to be one of the best explanations I've seen for a song. This is also what I consider the greatest rap song in history, and I'm glad many others like yourself think so too.
v accurate but i would argue that heâs not trying to say that he saved her family, instead that he chooses to acknowledge that ultimately the vicious cycle of gang violence/prostitution that he discusses will continue with or without the song- thatâs why he chooses to end daveâs brotherâs verse abruptly with his death and ironically have keishaâs sister fade out despite her insisting sheâll never fade away, showing how, despite her and everyone elseâs best efforts, sheâll just become yet another forgotten âvictim of societyâ amongst the countless others.
few things to correct, the first verse is from the perspective of Daveâs brother. Dave bled out at the end of Swimming Pools and you hear his brother screaming. and the second verse obviously being from the perspective of Keishaâs sister ends with her fading away and dying slowly from AIDS. thereâs. a juxtaposition of time and death with Daveâs brother dying quickly and Keishaâs sister dying slowly but either way death is inevitable.
greatest rap song of all time.
Love seeing people interpret his music you did a good job
Explanation
Chorus: if Kendrick dies, will people still sing about him, will they still remember and talk about him.
Verse 1: Dave got shot and Kendrick went outside and held him as he was proceeding to bleed out. Daveâs brother witnessed it and Daveâs brother wanted revenge, he respected Kendrick and hopes when Kendrick makes it big that he sings about this story, but right as he says it Daveâs brother dies trying to get avenge his brotherâs death.
Verse 2: Keishaâs sister (who is a prostitute as well) is mad that Kendrick talked about her in a song, and that he doesnât know what itâs like for women. She explains how itâs tough for them especially growing up.
Verse 3: Kendrickâs explanation of both perspectives
Really love that you respected the end of the song and you seem to truly understand his message
