- Welcome to Movie Shortens. A father is devastated at the death of his young daughter five years previous. He has lost everything, and his marriage dissolved. On the night he tries to take his life, he finds a portal door that can take him backwards in time to the day she died giving him a chance to change it. Kind of weird that you go straight to killing your other self right when you meet him and don't yet know what's going on. If I ever meet another me, first thing I'd think of is how much multitasking I'd get done.
I'd be asking a lot of questions rather... and if the other person really is my other self, I'm sure there would be a lot of explaining on their end as well.
"Doppelganger? Am I going to die now?" "No, I'm not your doppelganger." "No? Damn." "Yeah, I'm sorry."
I'd ask myself a lot of questions, too.

That's one of the paradoxes of time travel. A very popular one is called the "grandfather paradox", which is a potential logical problem that would arise if a person were to travel to a past time. The name comes from the idea that if a person travels to a time before their grandfather had children, and kills him, it would make their own birth impossible.
So in a logical sense, you are correct. The writers here don't have to stick to a certain rule regarding time travel just to make it more realistic or believable to the audience simply because time travel doesn't exist. I, too, was surprised by one of their rules here wherein they would have to kill anyone that didn't come from the future finding out about that secret portal which includes their past selves, and how they would have to continue living their lives there in the past in their older present bodies. Surely, they didn't come up with this concept first, but it's definitely not your typical time-travel movie.
@@stevenuez5941 well time does not work that way... the truth is they did not went to the past rather to another timeline which means they are in another parallel universe, the original time line where the future selves are still intact only that the two of them are gone, just like in Avengers Endgame.

Also, when you say "time doesn't work that way", you meant time travel, right? Coz if you did, well again, like I said, they've got nothing to base that on so there really isn't a "correct" way on how it actually works. While some would stick to certain rules and theories on how it _should_ work, heck, even if it's been proven and we all know how it works, in the end, the writers are still the gods of their own creation so they can do away with whatever they want it to be.

Lol I had to do a little research someone further up said it was called the “Door” but it’s hard to find just putting that in the original name is “Die Tür” and it’s on Amazon for free but in German
There are sooooo many fails in that movie If its about Time travel.
The only explanation that would make Sense is that These is Not Future and Past but two different worlds who are exactly The same but one world is a few years ahed of The Other one.

It's not about time travel. It's mystery, not sci-fi.
I actually feel true about the theory that if you kill your past self, then that self wouldn't have aged further. That means you would be erased from existence.

There are reasons time travel is not a valid thing in science. No matter how tempting it is, by messing with it, we are messing with ourselves.
Because time is an illusion...
That and earth is flying through space at thousands of miles an hour and is millions of miles away from any point in the past or future.....and the math to land in a time and space would be impossible

It's always left me dumbfounded how people will begin affairs with others who are already involved with someone else and think it will work out. They are already starting off an unhealthy relationship is no many ways. They are willing to get involved with someone who already has a partner and that person is willing to cheat on their partner. Neither one has any respect for themselves or others so exactly how they think it is going to last is beyond me.

Not sure about that as a parallel universe would still be on the same timeline. I’ve watched a lot of movies on both. All of them are entertaining, and make you think on a deeper level.

How on earth did the girl get trapped in the bottom center if the pool. Could she swim? How did she...I can't even, this is ridiculous, her shoelace got got? If she could make it that far down she could swim. WAS SHE LOOKING FOR BUTTERFLIES UNDERWATER?
Also it's not difficult to kick a shoe off. There are just so many things about this that make zero sense. She was murdered, or killed herself because she couldn't catch a butterfly.

This story line doesn't add up. If future David went to the past and killed his past self then his future self should cease to exist too. Unless the two versions of himself were from different multiverse not just different timelines.
Same timeline would work .... Imagine there are two alternate timelines that split the morning where his daughter dies .....
He doesn't go back to the afternoon of himself ... But the afternoon of the himself in the other Branch of the timeline.
