  • While we were staying in Shropshire we visited one of our favourite historic buildings in England. Stokesay Castle was originally built in the late 13th century by Laurence de Ludlow. The castle was never intended to be a serious military fortification, rather as a prestigious, secure and comfortable home.
It consists of a walled, moated enclosure. The entrance is through a 17th century timber and plaster gatehouse and included a hall and solar block, protected by two stone towers.
