"Rechenka" is an old folk song. A young orphan girl is about to be married but has no one to bless her on her wedding day. She goes to the river - believed to be the border between the world of the living and the world of the dead - to talk to the spirtits and ask for a blessing. A Russian commenter said that the yodelling here represent the wailing/lament of the unhappy bride.

In my opinion I believe she is proficient in throat singing. If you research this type of singing, you will find many of the women who can sing in this style are from Mongolia and Russia. Many can sing even lower than this. I am not trying to take anything away from Diana because I am in total awe of her talent and stage presence. The whole world will be applauding very soon.

👉 Rechenka/ River - This is an old Russian ritual song: An orphan girl should / wants to get married and goes to the river, the border between the living and the dead, and asks her mother for the blessing (mother's whisper)... The horses are in the courtyard. The guests are gathered and the wedding celebration begins. In Russia, it was customary to sing sad songs at weddings to scare off evil. This should drive away evil spirits and bring good luck. Such songs were called 'crying'.
Diana's rendition of this song is spectacular, mysterious... great!... everytime. Here, in 2018 she sang this song in the singing competition 'You are super' (she was 14 years old). She won and received inter-national attention. Since then, millions of people have followed her on CZcams and her worldwide fan base is growing rapidly.

I'm so happy you found this unique talented girl! She was 14, they made a show for kids with tormented background, and they make funny, beautiful performances.
Then Diana enters, with voice of a Earth godess. And since the crew was highly professional they did excellent job giving her the opportunity to shine. She took it,
won season 2, and season 3 super season at age of 15.
There are many many songs by her and they all amaze me do to his unique voice and style, but in my opinion only the TV show and it's concert
gave her the professional enviroment to really shine, including background, stage director, sound engineers for audio quality, etc.

International Children's Vocal Competition “ You are super! Ты супер!
Season 2 2018 (winner Diana Ankudinova)
Season 3 Super season: best of the best called back including Diana Ankudinova, won again.
It's an incredible show in which talented children without parental care have a chance to express themselves and demonstrate their vocal abilities to the whole country.
Over the years the project "You are super!" the show helped young stars to reveal their vocal talents and take their first steps into
a professional musical career. Some participants fulfilled their dream and found their long-awaited parents.
In the first two seasons, the project involved children from Russia and the CIS and Baltic countries
- Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Estonia and South Ossetia, as well as from Germany and Syria.
There are no chosen mentors, nor turning chairs, they only vote to decide who should go to the semifinal and final. (Sometimes early to reassure, also when they hear something unique,
sometimes when there is pause in the music, or they just watch and experience the performance and push late.)
Fun fact: Igor Krutoy the bald jury is a composer, he supports Diana, even offered his apartment in Moscow so Diana can move there with her family
and learn music in the best places.
So I got my ticket for this journey by subscribing, and happy to go with you on your journey exploring her talent.

Good afternoon from Scotland! You picked up on the emotions of this song without understanding the language - such is Diana's ability to convey the story to the listener! You will have alternate explanations in the comments I'm sure but from what I have been told by other Russian folk singers this is my very compressed version of the story here - "A young orphan girl is being given away in marriage to the unloved. She goes to the river (Rechenka) - (the barrier between life and death) to ask her dead mothers’ blessings for a marriage that will not be a happy one. The spooky voice is her dead mum answering back! The mood of the song changes and we hear the children in the yard playing and laughing, asking why the girl is so sad. Then she cries uncontrollably. She is lifted into the boat to be taken to her wedding with resignation for a sad life". It appears to be a kind of compilation of Russian folk songs, not just a specific song? The end result with Diana's unique vocals, her immense ability to convey the emotions and story is breathtaking for any age but at 14 years old!?!?
Here Diana was singing in an amazing Russian competition "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage. She is a dramatic contralto which is rare in females but exceptionally rare in someone so young! Diana was born way over in the far eastern side of Russian in Arsenyev, about 160 kilometers northeast of Vladivostok. Her adoptive family moved to Togliatti, in western Russia near the Volga River. After Igor Krutoy (one of the judges on the show) gifted Diana an apartment in Moscow she moved there and still lives there!

Здесь Диана пела в потрясающем российском конкурсе «Ты супер» для брошенных / малообеспеченных детей, потому что Диана провела несколько лет в детском доме. Она - драматическое контральто, которое редко бывает у женщин, но исключительно редко у таких молодых! Диана родилась на далеком востоке России, в Арсеньеве, примерно в 160 километрах к северо-востоку от Владивостока. Ее приемная семья переехала в Тольятти, что на западе России, недалеко от Волги. После того, как Игорь Крутой (один из судей шоу) подарил Диане квартиру в Москве, она переехала туда и живет там до сих пор!

Our language is in a very strong degree not only about WHAT you are talking, but also about HOW you do it. And the feeling of this girl-bribe are not only about missing her parents to bless her for her wedding, it's about her feeling of loss of herself... It,s clear she is prepared to be married by the people who do not care about her feelings and she has to be in front of the guests, the house is full of them, but she is't ther. she is here here - in front of the river - trying to talk with the soul of her mother and... with no wish to come back... There is no word in the song about exit like in "the "Mama" (Bohemian rapsody") of "Queen", but the river takes her, we can see it and Diana's voice tell us about it not by the words but by her tones... And we can not to keep our rears...

Hey, OZ, Habibi! I enjoy Diana's singing, immensely but today came across your reaction video and enjoyed your reaction as much. You are so natural and without understanding language almost guessed right what it was about. This song I like especially, because Diana uses almost archaic, ancient Russian words and phrases, which are no longer used in modern Russian language, though most people (in Russia) would understand them. But this language makes this song very colorful and tribal. It brings memories from deep history when Russia had very strong and bright spiritual traditions, but not religion, when Nature was our God. I wish you could understand the language. Then you would enjoy this song 10 times more.
