    really good review, could tell you didn't enjoy it but did not instantly give it a bad review. you saw its high points and pointed those out for people who do enjoy it, knowing there's a crowd out there that likes games you don't necessarily enjoy.

    Well I suppose its what I thought. It really was impossible to summarize Pathologic in two minutes.
    I can see this format working with other games, but fuckin hell not this one. I've been marathoning reviews, Tv tropes, playthroughs , and video essays for this game and im still sure I only kinda understand what the hell its about.
    It was a valid attempt tho.

      It's interesting, but also pretty janky, repetetive and hard, like looking for diamond hidden in a pile of broken concrete. You'll need a lot of patience and perseverance to appreciate it.

      Its pretty much have the same issues the first game but a lot of that is actually intentional. If you can't stand walking to point A to be B at a constant basis or get frustrated for having quest straight up go incomplete or difficulty spikes or monotone color pallets and convoluted story then you might not like this. I making sound like a flawed game i assure its all meant to be intentional for the sake of the game.

      @Alwoke78 I know I'm really late to this, but... I love the feeling of anxiety the mechanics of this game makes you feel. It's unlike anything else I've ever played. If you like music/TV shows/ movies because they can make you feel things you otherwise would've gone without, this game is for you. The "concrete" you're searching through to find the diamond *becomes* the diamond

      @@sofija1996 broken glass to be precise. All but bugs was made intentionally hard. You are a surgeon in a city with plague break out, also your father is dead and citizens hate people who cut even dead bodies. All the time you are in a state of uncertainty and anxiety choosing whose life you should or shouldn't try to save and what you need to do next, which task is important and which one can wait. Also, time frames your day together with your stats. There are people to die however hard you try to save them, there are people to survive by luck, and someone will definitely be betrayed. By you. Also, sometimes you'll probably have to kill a child (not letting them die, more like stabbing them) you tried to protect just to survive another hour by yourself and get a chance to save the town with thousands of habitats. There are dozens of things you'd like to explore, but clock are ticking.
      If you are having lot of fun doing it, probably something's wrong.
      I walked through the game with default difficulty and after finishing it immediately lowered it to minimum possible and started a new game just to see what I missed. Again, that is what player is expected to do. Being unable to be everywhere at once is an important limitation of the game, probably the most realistic one together with random luck.

    Icepicklodge games just aren't easy. Ever tried the void? I still didn't make it trough after years now and countless tries. (i'm too stubborn to install the easy patch) These games you have to at least play several times and know the game inside out before you have a realistic chance to make it to the end. You can also lower the difficulty in pathologic 2 so maybe that's what you should do.

    Selling resources is never a good idea, things that you should sell are jewelry (bracelets and rings), and spare/damaged weapons.
    But the review is fair. I agree, it has not the best gameplay idea: you must know beforehand which events await you and what resources will you need. So, the only way to play this game is play, get screwed, reload, play again. Which is notourious given the amount of walking and lengthy dialogs. Very repetitive.

      don't forget trading nuts and marbles with the children for drugs/ammo.As well as good ol' breaking and entering with a lockpick.

      @brunol.8608 Před 4 lety +4

      On Day 6 now, haven't had many problems as long as barter is *heavily-utilized*. I did play the original game, but this is so different from the original Haruspex playthrough that knowing this was the only thing I had going for me. The only thing I had to save scum was Day 5's doctor mission where you have to give 3 people the right antibiotics. That was dumb since I had to reload saves to figure out what each person wanted (rather than wasting 3-9 tinctures).

      An easy way to get food is to get lockpicks from the kids for stuff like scissors and then bread from the guards for lockpicks.

    I dislike the Pathologic 2 fans' propensity to dismiss criticism of blatant technical problems as "failing to understand the game/what is a conscious design choice".
    Repeated crashes are not a gameplay mechanic.

    • @OneShotBruh
      @OneShotBruh Před 3 lety +6

      I personally didn't have many crashes, I think that I had 1 crash in 16 hours.
      It's true that this game has problems, but people often fundementally misunderstand the game mechanics and then say that the game is bad.
      Case-in-point combat. Combat in the game is supposed to feel bad, you are playing as a doctor, not a fighter (though some things could be improved so it doesn't feel buggy).
      Also, it seems like the reviewer didn't understand that you are supposed to trade much, much more than you are supposed to utilize stores.

    I sunk a few hours into it and can't say I'm too impressed. The dialogue seems pointless and is often confusing like the characters are talking in some kind of poetry. The combat isn't great. Visuals are ok, but look dated. There's an interesting story to be told here, but I don't have the patience to sufficiently commit myself to this game to figure out what it is. Wasted $20 on it, but they're selling it for $10 now so if you want to check it out the buyer's remorse won't be so bad.

      the pointless dialogue is VERY important and intentional and the game is portrayed as a play so thigs wud be like that. and sum things i can not be bothered to talk about how the dialogue is used in very VERY interesting ways.
