  • We had a leak!!! - Installing Shelly
Unfortunately we came across a waste pipe leak. Although a simple fix we have now took measures to help reduce the risk in the future.

Hi mate, I've never trusted those outlets that tap into the sink waste. The diameter isn't wide enough for everything pumping into it. You're better off putting in a new separate 40mm trapped outlet for washing machine and dishwasher. Only a fiver each from toolstation. Plenty of bore for an emptying dishwasher or washing machine. I bet the pressure has popped that sink trap off.

The waste pipe was not clipped to anything. So I presume over time with the weight of the water of the water and temp changes it has worked its way down and as its done that the fall has reduced so more water is held until it popped off. The waster is now supported to prevent it from happening again. I may eventually change the fitting for JG ones but I’m happy with it for now

We had a tiny leak (constant drip which flowed down the outside of the copper pipe) from a cold water feed isolating valve, under the kitchen sink. I only noticed when our floor tiles started sounding crunchy. It's frightening how much damage so little water can do.
