Tom: took delivery of a 2021 Fremont M3 LR three days after this video was uploaded (March 5). After seeing and listening to the panel gap problems that others have had, I was a bit apprehensive and very attentive to detail. I looked in all the usual places and some that were more obscure. I found no issues... it was perfect! Much to my delight!

The EV labels arrive in the mail (at least in NSW) about 2-3 weeks after car is registered.

The SR+ has the same size tyres as my car which can be very annoying to try and find stock for. Not many shops keep them for some reason.

OMG the frunk of the white 3 is so easy to close 🤯 The frunk on our 2019 Model 3 is so difficult to close, need both hands and a lot of force - I'm so afraid to bend it and rarely use it.
I'll ask Tesla SC to adjust it since ours obviously isn't within specs 😊

I’m thinking the boot lid panel gap issue might be a consequence of the bootlid shape - it might need a bigger gap at the bottom there for clearance because of its curvature.

The Chinese model is only available outside of the US? I’m in the states (California) and getting my car in the next month. Wondering if I’ll get the Chinese or the US version. Will the US version get the new headlight and door panel wood trim eventually?
I believe only certain non-US markets are receiving Shanghai GF made cars
I never like the wood paneling, but now that the wood flows onto the doors it looks much better.

My son got his MIC M3 SR+ yesterday and it looks like much improved paint and panel finish compared to my December 2020 delivered 2021 spec M3P from USA. All panel gaps look very even and the frunk is perfectly flush all around, unlike the USA cars that tend to be higher at the front on the passenger side. There was a Tesla first aid kit in his car. Is this a new thing? I also noticed the charging screen doesn't have a split for daily and trip levels, appears to recommend charging to 100% all the time.
Congrats to your son! I’m glad you found that your Shanghai car seems to be of better build quality. Yes the red Tesla bag (featured at 12:29) is a roadside breakdown kit - apparently new anyway with S/X
That’s interesting with the charging screen that only states 100% - that seems to be in line with the general recommendation that the newer LFP batteries can tolerate a regular full charge with less long term consequence compared with the older NCA batteries
Hi great video. Do you know if the MIC Model 3 LR uses NCA or LFP batteries? If it uses NCA batteries which is recommended to be normally charged to max of 80% wouldn't that make the practical range difference between the LFP SR+ and the NCA LR marginal?
The Shanghai Model 3 LR uses NCA currently (May 2021) and yes for daily use - 80% NCA is of similar range to 100% LFP but most people don’t drive 400km each day ...
Of course, on road trips, LR will allow you that extra 100km range if you charge to 95-100% which comes in handy to reduce charging stops and also to alleviate range anxiety 😅

Are the headlights different between the US and China 2021 versions?
They’re different for us Aussies - we had the non-Matrix lights before the changeover from Fremont to Shanghai
Do you have any update since whether the boombox speaker was in fact installed for later use? From various sources, the speaker is not even installed so the Boombox option is never an option in Aus unless it becomes regulation.
I believe it is still not installed in Aus deliveries (Dec 2021)
When a person from Australia puts in an order for a Model 3 (currently, and even Model Y in future), do they get to choose if they want their car made in USA or China? or it gets auto allocated as only China made one from now (March 2021) on?
No I don’t think a choice is granted, you get what is allocated

Was it my eyes or did the black window trim on the performance have an oiling effect on it potentially caused by whatever was used to clean it? My friend had a BMW 1 series that also suffered oiling on the trims because of what someone used to clean it. Is there a way of avoiding it?

Yes - I'd just cleaned it but hadn't wiped it down (and didn't notice before filming). A quick wipe with an alcohol wipe and my microfibre cloth had it off in a few minutes. It's definitely something people should be aware of with the new black trim.
@@shanelord1666 thanks for that. My mate actually rejected his BMW because they couldn't get it off, it was their in-house valeters that had cleaned it. If it comes off with alcohol wipes that's fine for me!

Having had multiple Audi, Lexus and BMW in the last 20 years, I've finally ordered my first Tesla Model 3 Performnce. I actually consulted my friends working at body and car detailing shops, and their opinion is the paint quality of the Shanghai built copies are much better than the US ones. I had a major paint defect on my brand new 2007 Lexus and a very minor paint defect on my 2015 US built BMW X5, as well as 2017 German built BMW M4. All of which were fixed under warranty. IMHO, the paint job on the Tesla is not far behind the go-to luxury brands. However, the panel gap consistency is a whole other story. Even my VW company car is more consistent. Let's see what the German factory can do in the not too distant future.

Hi Scott, Tesla have updated their ranges across the Model 3 variants in Australia to WLTP which is fairly accurate for real world driving. The LR (from Shanghai) is now 580km WLTP 👍

@@ScottRawdin Again I think the 614km may have been the NEDC range which is greatly exaggerated. I personally ignore all NEDC range (or at least subtract 20% from that figure). WLTP and EPA is far more accurate for real world range
To be clear, the US Tesla site states the Fremont Model 3 LR as 353 miles = 570km EPA which is similar to Shanghai Model 3 LR 580km WLTP
I can’t stress this enough, do not use NEDC for real world range, it is not accurate and greatly exaggerated

I believe the newer cars have a thicker rubber seal to prevent this but may be worth testing

Seems to be a similar price compared to orders taken last year. But the local Chinese buyers get a cheaper price - some A$20k cheaper for an SR+ I believe ... so perhaps a price reduction is imminent?

@@LudicrousFeed Sandy started a tear down of a Freemont-built Model 3, but stopped after discovering the rear section was not cast. Elon has said that he doesn't want single-piece castings of the Model 3 built in Freemont, because he doesn't want to re-tool the line. He said he'd do it in freshly built buildings. Since Shanghai is freshly built, the Model 3 should have a single piece rear section, but no one has confirmed that. If it doesn't, then I'd be disappointed.

They’re different for us in Australia. The last 2021 Fremont batch Model 3s didn’t have the new matrix headlights. Hence our excitement!

Somehow only just realised that Tesla is rocking the left hand side indicator on the steering column. Thats a -1 point.
Like all European cars (or cars predominantly developed for LHD markets). It's something you get used to very quickly if you've never had it before so I wouldn't rule the car out over this - I've had European cars most of my adult life so it was completely natural.
You get used to it. Even a manual car with indicators on the left isn’t that hard.
Most capable drivers wouldn’t have too much trouble whichever side of the column the indicator was on
FSD will make it almost redundant eventually

Unfortunately you hit the window where Fremont, California stopped producing cars for Australia and Shanghai, China took over. Only problem is Shanghai currently don't manufacture the Performance models - hence the delay for your car. Sorry to hear!

@@LudicrousFeed Unfortunately the Shanghai did not fix the main problem. There was another video where the Fremont was better. Here MIC is better. So the main problem of inconsistency still stands strong even with the newly designed factory. That's not great at all

It’s a RHD Model 3 that was made in Fremont CA
@@LudicrousFeed I like your videos and this one, not trying to be an ass so i hope you don't get it the wrong way but just because it was made in California doesn't mean it's a U.S model, I'm sure they will ship that car to Japan, U.K or Australia where they drive on the left side, All U.S model cars has the steering wheel on the left side, except the post office, i have driven honda acty and supras with the steering on the right side and it feels wired driving them in America.
