Not a thorough review at all, Stacy. It's a 2-in-1 and he COMPLETELY avoided the unit as a tablet, neither he showed its touch responsiveness, nor pen input. With all such details left out, he has effectively covered about 55% of the unit's overall potential.

Lon - thx for this video and in fact all your videos. My wife bought the x360 a month ago and all is good. When she purchased it obviously a low capacity SSD so my plan was to upgrade it in the next few months.You made a comment that the HD is not easily accessible when you remove the cover. I have yet to remove the cover but based on other x360 upgrade video's I have seen the HD seems easily swapped. Can you comment on the discrepancy

. 2 in 1 compatibility if ur into that
. Quality Speakers
. Backlit Keyboard
. 16 GB Optane
. SSD hard drive (it turns on fast)
Cons:
. Battery life is disappointing
. Fan can get loud while streaming
Overall, it’s very good for a budget laptop. It should be recommended to students and everyday users. I do not recommend this if you try to game on it or edit videos. Hope this helps

S 400 sorry for the late response, you may want to invest in a macbook pro if you do serious video editing. If you prefer windows (like me) the surface pro is very good with programs like adobe premier

I got what was likely the last of the previous series (c-series; Prof. Seidman is showing the brand-new d-series) a few months ago. I agree that this is a good laptop. I recommend it.
The physical differences I see are a different placement of the fingerprint reader and thinner side bezels. There's also a negligible reduction in weight in the newer model (3.49 lbs. vs. 3.53 lbs.)
My particular configuration (HP has SEVERAL models of the "HP Pavilion x360 14") includes:
*similar 8th Gen i5 CPU, same screen size and resolution, same 128gb SSD, but
*16gb of DDR4 RAM and an HP Pen.
Also, mine has no video output from the USB-C slot, and a volume rocker in place of the HDD light.
My device cost $519.99. So, while the differences make for a slightly improved machine, I am pleased that I was able to get essentially the same quality device for less money.
Based on my experience with a very similar machine, I agree with Dr. Lon that the laptop shown is a solid choice for basic tasks.

When I tried to put Ubuntu on my older Elitebook it did not detect the wifi card in it, but Linux Mint did.
@Win32Application - System File When I had Ubuntu on here it ran pretty good, but wouldn't detect the WiFi card. But, because of that I didn't run it long enough to know if Mint ran faster or not. This system is a 3rd Gen i7 with 8GB ram and a 250GB SSD. Linux Mint runs like a dream on it; but I stopped running Windows because it was just running like trash on it.

Is this laptop good for Blender Animation, I’m asking because my career is Animation and I’m going to be using Blender Animation mostly for 2D Animation because I’m mostly gonna make anime.
Is the WiFi card a RealTek 8822 BE? I got the same on Linux (Bluetooth working, not WiFi) but for me the fix was as easy as going to a later kernel. On Linux Mint when I installed it the LTS kernel was 4.15.xx I went to 4.18.xx and it has been fine. I also had to disable secure boot and fast boot in bios otherwise it is like Windows grabs WiFi and won’t let go. Maybe this will help someone?
These are currently sitting at $649 for an i5, 12 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, which seems like a spectacular deal to me. I was going to splurge on another XPS, but I’m willing to give this more affordable options a shot given how phenomenal the specs are for the price.

Thank you for a review! I recently bought it (with i3 processor) as I saw your review and found it interesting. I love is so much, using it extensively for my job as web developer, watching movies, even some light gaming (pinball or retro games). This laptop is crazy useful. I no longer need to carry my mouse, touch works great. I can easily switch between laptop or tablet mode. Keyboard is nice although I don't like key positions so I bough new wireless keyboard for it. Battery can easily last for almost 8 hours, which is sufficient for any kind of work. For a budget laptop, I cannot find any bad things about it.
One thing to note, this laptop does NOT support, Samsung S Pen, or Wacom pens. You need original HP Pen (or probably Surface Pen, haven't tried it). Little bit dissapointment, as I have S-pen from Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Tablet.

With 8gb ram Photoshop will run okayyyyy, but not as smooth unless you get an external SSD. premiere will be pretty sluggish. I recommend a Samsung T5 SSD external. There's a 500gb version that's about 120 bucks.

Does anybody out there have feedback on the speakers when used in tent-mode for watching videos/movies, which would seem like an much-used-mode for a 2-in-1...??? Seems like a weird placement and somewhat useless in that case
I've read reviews of it being slightly muffled when in laptop mode but tent mode seems fine

HP - Stylus Pen that sells for about $65 does work with this HP Pavilion x360 2 in 1.
I do not know if the $99 HP - Stylus Tilt Pen works with it.

When you were playing fortnite were you screen recording or did you put the camera on the screen?
I found one of these with an 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD backed up with 16GB of optane. Would that improve the speed of newer games and the performance of video editing and live streams? And do you think the battery life would change significantly compared to the model you reviewed? The one I’m looking at is advertised to have 9 and 1/2 hours of battery life but most consumers report the battery life to be between 2-4 hours. That concerns me.
No you can’t really game on these
Regarding the RAM and storage upgrade, The older generation had few slots under the keyboard and this model is the 2019 model which has all the slots on the bottom side which makes it a a breeze to upgrade if you need to.
I have one and the only two things I would change are the windows 10 updates and the touchpad...I have bought a mouse to use instead of the touchpad because it is the touchpad that is malfunctioning and I have disabled all updates because it changes the setup I have for the machine

Fan is loud and it heats up after only using like for 20 minutes..... screen is great mine was the i7 version... standby time is just bad..tops 2 days..and finding out two days later the battery is empty...

No need to be condescending, upgrading this machine isn't difficult. Getting to the 2 screws underneath the rubber feet the hardest part.

Can we get some more technical details on your review? Like whether the Ram is single channel or dual channel, what is the exact WiFi card being used, 2x2 or 1x1? These will help us to decide whether to buy this or what kind of upgrade we need to plan for. These information are easily available without any third party software or may be just running software like HWinfo.
RAM is single channel on this one. Uncertain on the Wifi as it wasn't listed in the specs but typically these are 2x2.
@@LonSeidman you can use HWinfo to get the WiFi card details. Pavilion series comes with 1x1 as well.

Envy is better than pavillion then the best is spectre.
Its not bad. I just bought one from Best Bug for about 469. Its not very heavy, and not too thick, so it won't be too bothersome if wearing it in your backpack a while. Runs decently. Just using for Minecraft, writing, and doing genealogy stuff. Its not slow on those sights, which I appreciate. Tbh, I didn't ask many questions and the guy didn't offer much information. Just needed something inexpensive but useful so this works well. Just FYI. I had my phone on top of the laptop and slid it and twice the magnetics inside the laptop turned my phone screen off (not the phone itself), so keep that in mind. I only found out it was touch screen and folded into a tablet by accident.😂😂🤷♀️ Fan really isn't too loud. Only learning the otherstuff now while he's talking.😂😂😂 Wifi works connects fine for mine.

The entire time I was screaming for you to show the bottom of the laptop to see if there are any air intakes for the CPU fan. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is curious about this. Something to think about showing! This is important to me because I want to be able to set the laptop on my bed (or any soft surface while using it and I don't want a design where I will suffocate the fan intake. Thanks!

if it has less than a terrabyte of storage and used mem card ram/rom as the preferred OS medium this is why you had slow down and I doubt the Ram itself was past bare min of 8GB

I was torn between the two as well.
I do not recommend this laptop if you are going to use this laptop for gaming or for schooling (zoom). When my laptop overheats it makes this odd loud buzzing noise.

I thinkso, if you do task involving high cpu usage then get the quadcore version i5 or the i7 which is a lot of better. Photography, CAD. It should be suitable for those application look for one woth mx150 or 250 dedicated graphics . If you into gaming and rendering then get the LEgion y540 or Acer. Avoid hp gaming pc
