I am glad to see PC OEMs are focusing on user experience again. I would love to see this compared with the Zenbook 14/14x with a bit of a deeper look at GPU performance and battery life.
God, I have seen many reviewers who tested pen just by scribbling random shapes or writing fast. Then they label it as "good pen performance". Well, I would say with today's power and screen refresh rate, pen lag is no longer an issue in modern 2-in-1. However, the pen's true challenge is to draw straight diagonal line (you can use ruler) straightly. I have seen many 2-in-1, premium devices, struggle with diagonal-slow-line test. Many devices failed and produced jitter/wiggly lines.
Please do such test before labelling a 2-in-1 pen performance good.
The webcam is better than video taking from the front facing camera in some phones
The webcam is just amazing.
It literally looks equal to the macbook pros
Thanks for the review Matt.
Honestly fair play to HP for including the necessary adapters if they're going to keep the port selection light
At least they provided it unlike apple you have to buy 100$ adaptors 😅😅😅
@@patrickmallari1411 haha even Macs have more ports than this HP useless brick
@@bluehonour02This is supposed to be a thin and light like the MacBook Air coming in at 3 pounds. Last time I checked a MacBook Air has 2 thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack for its port selection hahahah💀
I bought it and didn't get them
Honestly, I was thinking the same thing. Lord forbid Apple does anything like this
I have the intel 1255u model, which is a bit older but has pretty much the same chassis. The downside of this model is that when the lid is closed the little standoffs the screen is resting on will scratch quite deep into the glass and the screen will manage to scratch the glass touch pad.
Other downsides (for linux users): If the new model is similar to the older ones. This is not the easiest laptop to get everything working.
Powerprofiles will not work,
Battery health reports can be all over the place,
no fan control,
gyroscope could mess with wifi and bluetooth (meaning all wireless connections get disabled when the lid closes or the laptop is moved around),
no s3 suspend to ram only s4 susped to disk works,
and the camera will not work at all even in the future, very proprietary drivers.
I still love the laptop, It just takes time to set it up for linux to work as best as possible.
stop stop stop, hp spectre is incredible
(low) fan noise is so important to me
I'm gonna try this laptop
Very nice laptop, similar in design to the Dragonfly G4, but a 2in1.
The touchpad is huge - did you encounter any accidental touchpad clicks or swipes while typing on the keyboard?
Looks good! Thanks for the review. But would you be up to making a video on the 5 best hybrids? Meaning tablets with detachable keyboards. I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro 7. It works fine. I have been using it for more than 3 years. But I would like to know if there are better and more cost effective options out there. Thanks Matt! 🙌🏻
Great video. A little off topic. Did you end up getting the M3 MacBook Pro? Was it the M3 Max configuration?
I have the older model (2019 or something like that) and have had constant heating issues since I bought it. Complained multiple times to HP during the first few months but they weren't able to fix the problem completely. I don't know whether this is a problem with my specific model or because they weren't able to implement proper cooling is such a thin chassis.
Other than that it's been a great experience. Linux runs great on it too, in case somebody wanted to know.
06:20 thats the reason why I am going to buy this laptop. I always value slience over performance.
I originally loved my current X360. But the thermal issues when used in the 2 in 1 mode, and the soldered on memory have made our company move away from issuing these to any employee.
Unfortunately the move to meteor lake means ram is soldered onto the motherboards regardless of vendor. Good news though are the thermal issues are gone in this model. What laptop do you issue to your employees?
Find that interesting. Usually don't find enterprise IT departments issuing this form factor to their employees unless it's the surface line from Microsoft.
@@MatthewMonizThat's why I'm so disappointed in 2024 laptops. Too many middle fingers to the consumer.
@@MatthewMonizsir, LPCAMM will fix these issues very soon.
Funny I have never had any probllem with any of the x360s I have purchased for myself or others.
how is the low brightness PWM flickering on this? Also thanks for this review, I'm seriously considering it as a developer. Would you recommend OLED or IPS for work?
I don't like hp anymore. Bought and HP Envy x360 a few years ago and due to a factory defect HP never chose to address, I lost alot of money (my parents' money as I am a student). As such, I cannot trust the company anymore.
Same Here with HP. Now I bought MacBook Air, And I am not going back.
HP has worked out great at my job. However, we are using HP EliteBook. Their business line laptops are far better quality than consumer and prosumer laptops.
HP EliteBook 840 G10 (Intel Core i7 1370P) and HP EliteBook 845 G10 (Ryzen 7 7840U CPU) are excellent business laptops.
@@abhishekchowdhury6094 I can't trust Apple after the 8 GB = 16 GB comment they made. Too expensive and unupgradable for what you get.
@@abhishekchowdhury6094 Good luck with Apple screwing over consumers...
That's why I love framework so much. Though it isn't available in my region yet😢
Long-term experience, one data point: I have a Spectre x360 from 2017, and the bottom half has bowed out slightly (it's no longer flat), so when I type, it wobbles a bit. I don't know how common that problem is. Overall I like the design, thin, light and very portable.
I was so sure last year that I was gonna buy this year’s HP Spectre because i was hoping for the small QoL changes(120hz, haptic touchpad, intel arc) and they gave me everything I ever wanted. But in the process, they took away the biggest selling point for me of this laptop - the design. It no longer looks the luxury piece it used to look, but instead like any other basic lenovo yoga laptop. Sadly will have to lean towards the Dell XPS 14 this year. Awaiting your review!
Xps line got so overpriced for what you get in terms of performance.
Now the Galaxy book pro 4 is out how do you compare the two? Im looking at both 16" X360 and 16" pro 4 but not sure whats best, certainly the 360 is cheaper.
just watch the same video from him a year ago, absolutely same, and again incredible
My last Spectre was the late 2017 model. Loved that laptop and really glad to see they’ve improved the series quite significantly. Going to be really hard to pull me away from the M1 MacBook Air though, such a good machine and it’s aging so incredibly well. Would love that 120Hz OLED though.
How are you doing friend?
How would this compare to the Yoga 9i?
100% agreed sir.🎉🎉🙏🙏
Thanks for super excellent and super genuine review.
Thanks for the review. Is it the Space Blue Aluminium or Nightfall Black Aluminium?
great review
Bought one a week back. Very happy with my purchase so far. Here in Canada, my retail unit bought directly from HP website did not have the dongle in the box. This thing is blazing fast. Battery is at MBP levels and I am not exaggerating. Speakers sound a little tinny. I moved to this from my long in the tooth surface laptop studio and no regrets. Yet. Hopefully this does not run into HPs infamous reliability issues.
Glad you’re enjoying it! They nailed it this year. Hoping you have no issues
@@MatthewMoniz😂 still waiting for your "Full review" of the lenovo:yoga pro 9i ! after even ten months later 😂
Wow🎉. Everyone saying same thing that METEOR Lake has MacBook 2023 level of BATTERY LIFE even though Intel is using Chiplet architecture.
Mind blowing.
Many many Congratulations for laptop.🎉🎉
Did it come with a U.S. or Canadian bilingual keyboard?
@@lost-prototype Canadian bilingual.
The webcam is terrific, and mic actually very good as well. Very solid device all around.
I miss the more adventurous colors on the X360s, hopefully they'll bring those back at some point.
Ya the webcam surprised me! HP is coming out swinging this year.
Can you suggest me whether it would be a good decision buying Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i?
Just ordered one and had to pay for the MPP 2.0 pen as an accessory. Also ordered with the Nvidia RTX 4050 option which raises the price a lot.
Between this spectre x360 14 inch and zenbook 14 2024, which one would you recommend?
Every Windows laptop needs to have a haptic touchpad
💯
@@MatthewMoniz Not unless it's well implemented like Apple's is. Dell's for example is horrible.
As long as the simulated click can be disabled, then yes. I've grown accustomed to a solid state touchpad, so I hate physical or simulated clicks. Gestures all the way, I haven't needed to push down on a touchpad in a decade almost.
I wish the gives HDMI port to this laptop like the HP Dragonfly.
Awesome package!
Out of the question since I learned about the HP power port burnout issue
The screen is blinking in grey color areas randomly, so frustrated. Need to return it now. Also opening the lid is a pain.
Does the adapter support 110 ~ 220 Voltage and Frequency 60Hz?
Would you pick this or the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo for music production?
Great video! loved the cat meme!
Have this model arriving tomorrow. Great to see this positive review. Dont buy HP printers though, obviously.
Ya I agree with you on the printers lol
I wish I knew that before I bought one in 2019...
Can you please check if you can disable the Fn+Shift combo as Fn-Lock in BIOS? This key combination they've chosen is an absolute nightmare for programmers...I do have that on my work Dragonfly but cannot access the BIOS as company blocks it.
@@marcusst8809 Happy to help. Yes there's a BIOS option 'launch hotkeys without fn keypress' which when disabled means the function keys default to normal behaviour, much to my relief! One thing that bothers me a little is the combination of OLED and touchscreen means there is quite a noticeable grain when viewing light colours due to the digitisation layer. Not the end of the world but ideally for my use case for the machine an IPS screen might have been better.
@@marcusst8809 one more niggle! The haptic touch pad is very sensitive. You can turn this down in settings but I'm still getting used to the behaviour. Pretty normal for the first few days with a new machine is that you spend X hundred and want everything to be perfect immediately!
always have loved HP Spectre
Cannot decide between Spectre x360, asus zenbook 14 oled and msi 13 ai evo. HP and Asus are both same price, msi is cheapear around 300usd in my country, which should i choose?
How does it compare to the lenovo 9i 2 in 1 with core ultra? Especially fan noise, heat, performance and battery life?
Matthew, hows the screen on this laptop? I'm returning my ASUS Flip 2023 because the screen had such an annoying "screen door" effect on it. Really hoping HP's screen tech is better, if so, this will be a must buy for me!
This laptop has that issue. It's so bad. It would have been better if it had an IPS display.
Isn't there a programm you can run to overcome such issues?
I'm pretty sure the issues are because of the touch screen layer. I've been on the hunt for a 14-inch 2.8K laptop for ages and tried a bunch. Those with Touch screens (no matter if it is IPS or OLED) tend to have these issues all the time. I pick up on stuff like that easily - something about being super sensitive, I guess. If you ditch the touch feature and go for a non-touch screen, it usually fixes the problem. Right now, I'm using the LG Gram Style 14'' - it's got a sweet matte 2.8K 90HZ OLED screen that's not touch, but yeah, there are a couple of things about it I'm not too keen on. If touch isn't a big deal for you, I'd say just grab a laptop with 2.8K Non-Touch display. There's a few out there.
Very nice review.
I would like to replace my Rog Ally with this Spectre, can I play any games as well on that laptop? Is it as powerful as the Rog ally, fps wise?
Do the Canadian versions come with U.S. layout keyboards yet?
Also, can you review the 16??
Is the 32 GB LPDDR5x-7467 RAM in this laptop dual channel? There is a warning note in the specs stating that arc graphics card works only with the dual channel memory. Otherwise it works only as an Intel® graphics card.
Does the 16" not have a 3k oled variant anymore? All i see is 2.8k full hd
I got this at day one in the UK but they didnt give dongles for me : / ! I got 2TB storage thoo and paid £1300 for it so im happy. (now £1699)Love the touchpad (its huge too) and the screen is crazy good. Also like how the pen just stick to its side (magnetic) Lightweight compared to my previous Lenovo Yoga 7i which just decided to not to charge anymore... Cool feature is that the power button is a fp scanner so when you press it it takes the scan as well and logs you into windows.
One con is that the keyboard layout is not ISO but it is a mix of ISO and ANSI...
Is yours the 32GB RAM model (the one that comes with 2TB SSD)? If so, where did you buy it? I'm in the UK & can only find the 16GB RAM variants.
@@Lee.S321 Hi! Yes I have a 14" 32gb and 2TB. Got it on the official HP UK website, it let me pick between 32GB or 16 and 500GB? or 2TB storage.
I checked it now and only found a 16" with those specs, but that is much more expensive. Looks like they went out of stock from the 32GB version.
@@Antal46 How is the battery life? And which colour did you get? Which colour looks better?
@@141290KAPIL i got the blue one, and battery life is id say average, survives all day use at school.
They could have added an RJ45 port in one of the dongles.
Great review as always 👍
Thanks!
Why does none of these reviewers look on the website hp doesn't include any dongle. You have to purchase them separately, they just send it to reviewers for free.
It looks awesome. Don’t need that good of a laptop rn, but would get it if I did.
I just got this laptop this week and I'm surprised that no reviewer mentions the terrible graininess of the display.
That's not issue. No issues in the display.
Have you tried changing the windows display resolution?
Maybe the support team could provide some help or takes it back.
Either its a software issue or a hardware issue specific to your unit, look it up
Graininess is from OLED touch panel.. my Lenovo Yoga 7i OLEd has that graininess..
Which version comes with dongles? Can anyone link it? The version I recieved didn't come with dongles.
Is it just me, or windows laptop dark blue paintings actually are getting better and looks really good 😂
What is the color that you experienced?
Which 2 in 1 is also good? I want an amd one for drawing purposes
Matt - was this the nightfall black or slate blue color in the review?
I am confused between Asus Zenbook 14 and Spectre x360 (both Ultra 7 with 32 GB). In India, Spectre x360 is INR 45,000/- (approx. 550 USD / 425 GBP) costlier. Is the Spectre worth the extra money ?
I'm wondering abt this too
@@TheAkira277 My research concluded at the point that if you can afford to spend that extra money, Spectre is worth it. If not, Zenbook faces a tough competition from Yoga 7i at around 1 lakh price.
@@vardanrathi7777 but then, I've seen MSI prestige 13 ai evo with wifi 7, does it makes a big differences with the 6E on the zenbook?
@@TheAkira277 6E and 7 have no drastic real life impact yet.
I had the previous three generations. Switched to the Lenovo Yoga 7 with AMD CPUs.
I like the keyboards better, sorry to say. The Lenovo teal color is very beautiful as well.
BTW, I don't know where you take these odd Cinebench 23 numbers from? Looks more like '24 bench?
I have 11440 multi and 1465 single core currently in cine 23.
And 590 multi vs 84 single core in Cine '24.
Greetings and best wishes from Gemany.
Is it very black inside or is it rather gray?
I have the 2023 X360 (non-OLED) model with 16GB/512 that I got at Best Buy for $999. It has been great. Standout features are the screen, keyboard, and battery life. The 2024 model checks most of the boxes for what I would want in an upgrade. Moving the screen size to 14 inches is a great move, which I deem the sweet spot. The 3:2 aspect ratio on the 2023 model is great for Excel but less so for CZcams. All things considered, I would rather have the 16:10 ratio on the 2024 model. Not only that, you now have the 120hz adaptive refresh rate. I use my Spectre on my lap a lot - Upward firing speakers are better. Arc graphics look to be a noticeable upgrade over IRIS.
That being said, I will stick with my current Spectre. I love the bright screen and the blacks on the non-OLED model is unbelievably good. It's quiet and the touchpad/keyboard combo is excellent. Webcam is better than most and I have USB-A when I need it compared to my MBA. I don't do much to push the IRIS graphics so that isn't a limitation.
Is it good for video editing?
Two fans inside, that's new I think. Usually you see one fan on these type of laptops.
As a student who will be using this view documents, make presentations and etc. Is this good? (I want a windows laptop so if not the spectre what else I can go for)
I think it'sperfect for those tasks.
Main question does it still overheat like the previous generation
Did they solve the issue of the display getting scratched (getting white spots) when the lid is closed (scratched by laptop chassi/touchpad area)? This is a very disappointing design flaw of the last few generations. Happens after a relatively short time of daily use. I had my screen replaced under warranty twice, Reddit if full of threads for reference.
What is the display size? I did not notice heating it in the first minutes
14 inch
The camera's really good
Ya it is
The position of the power/fingerprint reader & Delete button will cause a number of deaths
Will this come in a 15in model?? Thanks
What is it with laptops not having a delete key.
Is it a good laptop for adobe stuff figma and design stuff? I'm doing some UX UI design courses
Thanks
Actually both USB Type-C ports support Thunderbolt 4 with 40Gbps signaling rate
How about linux/ubuntu experiences with this notebook ? Have someone any ?

I believe both USB-C ports are Thunderbolt
One of the best design 14 inc laptop the 1st is xps 13 plus

$1899 that's all I needed to know
This, or Air 15" with 16 and 512?
I just received a fully loaded Spectre 14 (March 8) but arrived DOA. Battery was completely dead and once it was charged, I got several blue screen errors and it restarted 5-6 times before it let me get to the main screen. I probably used it for 1 minute before it crashed and I'm now stuck with a blue screen menu and the restore option is not working at all. I'm curious if anyone has had any issues?
WOw that's some bad luck. Just send it back and ask for a new one.
@MatthewMoniz your review insights are spot on though, especially regarding the keyboard/touchpad. I called HP and they immediately offered to "have it repaired". A bit annoying to go through the process for a laptop that almost reaches $2k MSRP
The headphone jack being all the way in the edge of the corner is a weird choice
Will you prefer this laptop on Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro with same specs but with very less reflective screen or XPS 14 2024 with same specs but with beautiful bezel less display?
Galaxybook 4 pro 360! But I already have the Galaxybook 3 pro 360 and I love it.
@@HoldMyBeerFam
As of now HP spectre has best overall package.
If galaxy book 4 pro 360 provides better overall package than HP so Galaxy Book will be better.
We have to wait for reviews.
Web looks decent on my phone. That mic sounds ass, but usable.
I have the 2021 Spectre and still one of my favourite laptops to use. Interesting about the Bang and Olufsen collab slowly disappearing
NOTE: The dongles DO NOT come with the laptop in countries outside of USA!!
Is it metal?
My plan was to trade in my M2 Macbook Air towards this HP. The display beats the Air. The battery life and speed are a disappointment. Did web searches on both at the same time, did simple Excel tasks, switched from app to app on both and the Air always came out ahead. I was reading on the Kindle app and the battery kept going down. Left it sit and the battery went way down. The charger got really hot. I bought the 16GB, 1T SSD on sale at BB for $1100. Great deal but it is going back. Really was hoping to break away from Apple but the Macbook is just too good.
I always wonder why these Windows laptops have such a thick screen. It's as thick as the bottom part that house the battery, all the electronics and the keyboard on top.
Check Galaxy Book 4 series if you want thin screen but it will be not as good package as HP spectre X360.
Tech reviewers be like: This is the best laptop that ever existed... but i will still use my macbook.
Ughhh i just need a laptop with great build quality and maybe a CPU tbh😂. I just need something to edit documents and presentations on the go. O have a beast PC at home😭
