Supreme Court Refuses To Entertain Pleas Seeking Ban On PM Modi Over Hate Speech

- The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a PIL seeking to ban Prime Minister Narendra Modi from elections for making alleged hate speeches during campaigning.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Satish Chandra Sharma said that the Court was not inclined to issue any directions in this regard to the ECI, as reported by Bar and Bench. The plea was filed against the speeches delivered by PM Modi and Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and the posts made on social media handle of the BJP.
The apex was hearing a plea filed by Fatima, through Advocate Anand S Jondhale, seeking a direction to the EC to disqualify PM Modi from elections for six years under the Representation of People Act.
