The power of this scene is incredible. There is a reason why the staircare is shaped like the double helix of the DNA. The metaphor of Jerome climbing the stairs is to symbolize that now, finally, he lives up to his genetic potential. But he does it not for himself, but to help a genetically "inferior" man to realize his dreams. I actually teared up during this scene. Finally, all those millions of Dollars that Jerome's parents spent to give him the "heart of an ox" and muscles of stell finally paid of. The symbolism of this scene is that of genes bending before Human willpower, and serving the purpose of Human fullfillment. This is one of the most powerful scenes in movie history, but most people missed the symbolism.
Wonderful analysis, my friend! Although the symbology of everything else that you mentioned has always been equally as important to me as it clearly is to you, I'd not previously noticed that the staircase is shaped like a double helix, further representing deoxyribonucleic acid - nice one!
Cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under', mate...Matt.
As I considered the news from my cancer guru that the next stage after the cancer explodes my spine will be paralysis I realized that I needed to start planning on a lot more upper body strength like in this scene.
I'm already planning out how can I keep doing what I need to do to build solar synthetic fuel power plants even if my legs won't cooperate anymore.
@@fm2dmax Best of luck. You have everything it takes to keep with your dream. Please let me know how it goes.
Is that heroin in that needle? 👀 I'm starting to get a little itchy...
Dude... your comment is too good
"How the hell did you get up here?"
"Oh, I could always walk, I've been faking it."
This is probably the second greatest scene in the movie next to: "I never saved anything for the swim back."
I wish Jerome would show the same love to himself as he does for Vincent
He could not let go of his shame, or the hate he used to control it. He could not grieve the past, and be water. He was fire, and his ego choose to die in fire, rather than cry and die in shame. The tragedy is he doesn't know it.
bro.... I was waiting for that...
"How are you jerome."
"Not bad jerome."
Love that part, such a great moment lol
"I was never very good at it, remember?" What an incredible but easily glossed over line
Jude law is such an underrated actor.
This is gold. My name is jerome and I’m paraplegic. He does a very good job on the stairs. Except my legs would be spasming like crazy.
Ive always found this scene fascinating, the kind of unsung hero. Being willing to do that is a sign of true friendship
Very good film lifted tremendously by Jude Law’s outstanding performance. He should’ve at least gotten an Oscar nod; a real breakout, riveting acting turn.
How Jerome says "hello" never fails to make me laugh
Lol
Haha me too!
I love that look on the detectives face when Jerome says Wheres my kiss?
Love this movie!
The Detective thought Jerome was His Brother!?
Like, Damn, did you get Face Surgery too Bro!?....
😂
Jerome climbs the stairs"Oh, I could always walk. I've been faking it."
When his hands hit the steel guide rails.
The way his veins popped when he pulled up his sleeve.
Beautiful scene
Jerome: Who were you expecting?
Anton: Nothing I suppose, why don’t you show me to the door…
Jerome: Shit..
Jerome the Metronome, indeed.
This is one of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema. And the best movie made in my lifetime. Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this movie.
There’s a lot of great camerawork in this movie. The tone is phenomenal as well.
This scene was so hair-raising and suspenseful. I was practically on the edge of my seat, hoping that Jerome would climb the stairs before the detective would find out about him and Vincent.
Overall Gattaca is a pretty mixed bag as a movie, but there are some excellent set piece segments like this one, and Jude Law is great in it.
@@ryrvoch4345 Uh, no. It's an underrated masterpiece and brings representation to the determination of the human spirit and the ability to persevere beyond physical limitations.
My top five of favourite movies.
Yeeessss! Excellent choice xoxox
They dont make movies like this anymore sadly
No big budget movies, but there are plenty of indi films that are great.
@@jacobitosuperstar Do us a favor and name some.
Plot holes be damned. This was a good movie.
Great movie ❤
RIP CLA Building
The way Jude fell off the wheelchair was super weir though
Watched this clip again, sooooo touching!!! The best movie ever.
nice plot twist that his brother is actually the cop
If the human centipede could climb the stairs Jerome sure could too
Comment of the century, this!
Imagine the authorities having the right to draw your blood with a needle, no warrant, no suspicion, no reason other than identity. Wow, I couldn't live in that world.
I hope you didnt get the c19 shot then
@@soccrdud77 I did not, nor will I. Pure blood forever.

So you’re okay spreading disease?
Tell me why it’s just fine for Trump and those other GQP’ers to get vaccinated, but not people like you who listen to those who mocked the worst health crisis in over a century? 🤨
thats my vacuum cleaner up stairs.....................
I want to get the dna helix tatted on my forearm
Wouldn't they build an elevator by now?
Builders, reports, why would a genetically made man need it and so on.
Please, don't upload videos with encoded black bars. This could fit perfectly on 21:9 screens, instead, it end up being letterboxed on all sides.
11-1-22. This is great!!! It illustrates HOW FAKE 99.9% of people are in their lives!!!!
Not me!!! What you see hear and smell of me IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM!!
Cheers to all good people and please live as honestly as possible
