This is a great series for beginners to learn alongside someone, which requires a really different mindset than improving while knowing the game, since you arent stuck with any preconceptions

Although there has been already a lot said about Lucky I think it worth mentioning that it's essentially a skill boost like Guts/Overpower, etc. that doesn't have to be committed until it's really needed. In practice it can as effective as multiple Guts.
It prevents you from overcommitting and enables taking more risks.

As a teacher, this was a great activity. There may not be a right answer, but figuring out which is better than the other under what circumstances leads directly into investigator differences (which could be another video): Jenny vs. Preston, Yorick vs. Tommy, Ursula vs. Rex, etc.

A missed opportunity to bring up difficulty and chaos bag composition when discussing Shriveling/Azure Flame. Dunwich only starts with 4 tokens that trigger Shriveling, but that can rapidly increase to 8 after 3 scenarios. Meanwhile, if you play on Hard, there's only ever 3 that trigger Azure Flame (and if you play Jim or Jacqueline, they can and even like to cancel elder signs, so that leaves only the 0s)

Good points, but personally the chaos bag doesn't influence my decision on how I put these cards in at all. The big part of this is the reasoning that we only play on standard, so our chaos bag always stays the same. Eric is only ever going to play on standard, so discussing hard mode is literally wasting brain space for them. The other part is that I don't think it's a big enough impact for me to care if my deck is actually built properly which I think is more important than the odds of a card dealing damage or horror.

Wow I never thought of skill cards in this way. Including two perception as a cluever is the equivalent of being able to reduce your deck size by two because you're investigating anyway.
So simple but so powerful to understand. Thanks for that

Oh, Eric. I'm excited for you to play the neutral investigators. Lola was the strongest neutral investigator for years. They actually had to taboo her. You should really give her a shot. And then they released Charlie Kane. Charlie is very, very strong. My favorite type of card is the ally card. I just love allies. And Charlie is a great excuse to throw a lot more allies into a deck than you'd normally get to play. And it works well! It's not only fun but also very effective.
Though I'd rank both neutral investigators as harder to play (Charlie a bit harder, Lola a lot harder), so maybe get at least a couple more plays under your belt before you try them. Maybe play each color at least once before trying out a neutral? Regardless, they are a fun puzzle to figure out.

Great idea to have a newbie comment on cards. Being a very inexperienced player myself, I found this great source of info

There is also something to consider with live and learn - since you dont pay any of the costs of the test again, it can protect your assets with uses on them, and it lets you basically redraw a token. Lucky cant save you from autofails, but this can!

I think "I've had worse..." (2) had been designed for Diana. Because it has cancel effect to trigger her ability and she can take it in her deck.

With Thieves' Kit, you **may** substitute your Book with Foot. So you can still do work with Book using Perceptions, Deductions, etc as needed, while getting paid. It is like a "Uses()" Dr. Milan for Rogues with flexibility in clueving. Skids, Trish, Finn, love it.

As a new player, Lola was fascinating to me due to the flexibility in her deck building! Charlie had not been released. Another that stood out was Carolyn for the same reason.
However turns out having so many more options of cards you can play, makes deck building more difficult in a way

I can confirm that Justin is pronouncing Gené perfectly.
Beauregard in French is pronounced with a silent D, but because it's a name that has crossed over into English quite a bit it's much more natural to pronounce it with the D when speaking English, exactly like Justin is doing.

On the remarks of 'Try and Try Again'.
Wondering as you folks often mention that Survivor class characters typically have a lot of surplus XP: IF a deck would benefit from 'Try and Try Again (1)', by the time you reach the 'surplus XP' phase of the campaign would you still consider upgrading to 'Try and Try Again (3)' to be a waste? Care to elaborate on that?
What if the deck had 2 'Try and Try Again (1)', and decide to go for a one-off 'Try and Try Again (3)'?
What if the context is that the character being built is specifically Stella, and would be exploiting timing windows to perhaps use 'Predestined' or 'Signum Crucis' or 'Take Heart' or 'Unrelenting' and intentionally aiming to fail a skilltest for benefits AND using 'Try and Try Again' to get those skill cards back to recur the benfit over and over?

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  Před rokem +1

Outside of Stella, I'd rather spend my XP on other better cards than going for Try and Try Again 3. Maybe if it's going into the last scenario and there are literally no other options, but even the Survivor class has enough good stuff to spend XP on now that their lower XP costs aren't really as much of a thing that they were earlier on in the game's life.
And of course, with most cards in this game there is a definite use case for them. Stella could certainly use Try and Try Again 3 well, but even then, Grisly Totem 3 is still a better option. Because this is broadstrokes learning, it's more about the general use of the card, that's why it wasn't covered in such detail.

thanks on the "Plan of Action" as it also apply to "Quick Learner", right? I really thought that card was trash for anyone other than Stella, because it is too much exp for most characters that can have more than 3 actions.
