So I had the chance to spend some time inside the 2018 Audi A4 Prestige trim and figured it would be a good idea to go over one of the coolest features of the car. Audi hit a home run with this option in my opinion. It's a little pricey to get it here in the US, but its still pretty awesome. The Audi Ambient Lighting in the Audi a4 2018 gives people the opportunity to express themselves with a little bit of custom color lighting on the inside of their cars. There are tons of customizations that you can make with the color on the inside of the car, from the cup holders, to the footwells, to the doors, to the light strips by the door handles. Audi really gave us a chance to change the look of the inside.
There are so many different options that you can choose with the Audi Interior LED Lighting package when it comes to colors. Blue, Teal, Green, Yellow, Purple, and Red are just a few of the options that you have.
We dig through the settings in the MMI system for the ambient lighting to see the different options that are available.

Here's what the Ambient lighting package in the Audi lineup looks like. This should provide a pretty good overview and how-to on how to adjust all the settings.
The best looking interior for me. Not just in it's class but overall. No other car combines traditional dials and buttons so nicely with modern technology. For my taste this beats the new A8 by a lot

Amazing spec. On my EU A5 I don't have as much color s you do on the individual mode. If you have an odb eleven, could you please send me your coding settings for the central electric module?

It's funny how trends change. 15 years ago I had neon lights in footwells of my civic and everyone thought it was rice, now it's factory.
Hahaha that’s so true. I remember crawling under my first car to put neon lights under it. We thought it was awesome at first and then stated to realize it was rice. Now it’s coming back again as a factory option. Not gonna lie I like it.

2020 Azera limited Hyundai , the led interior lighting comes with the car. Plus it's a bad ass car only 40 K

Its definitely classy looking and it's nice that you can customize it to your liking. Just not sure its worth upgrading to the Prestige package just to get it.

The $9500 package comes with more then the lights. So I saw all that comes with the package and it with it.
Yes that is true. You get all the additional driver aids, but the only way to get that lighting package is to add the $9500 Prestige Package.
ThatBlueS3 wait you can’t individually chose options in the US? In europe you can choose every single option individually but packages are cheaper.
Nope. They lump a bunch of things together here in the States. We can’t option our car a la carte like Europe can. Really sucks.

as of 2018, you DO NOT have to upgrade to Prestige. I'm seeing a lot Premium Plus models with Ambient lighting.
Thanks for the video. I just got my 2019 RS5 and have been playing with the ambient light settings. What I find very strange is how the different color choices seem to vary in brightness even with everything dialed to max brightness setting. For example, the Maritime Blue selection seems to be 2x brighter than any other selection for both the contour and interior lighting, but the footwell is very dim. In Individual, you can change the colors but the contour and interior lighting seems a lot dimmer, with the exception of the footwell, which comes on really bright. Seems like your car is the same way so this must be normal?
Congratulations on the RS5. I actually saw three of them tonight at the local dealership. Drop dead gorgeous cars. As for the lighting, I believe you should be able to adjust the brightness levels for the footwells individually. This A4 was actually a demo that I had for a little bit, but in my S3 I can adjust them individually.
ThatBlueS3 Yeah, the car is an absolute blast to drive. I played around with the settings more and found the answer. There are really two places where you can adjust brightness for the Individual mode. If you select Individual by pushing down on the scroll wheel, you can adjust the overall brightness setting. If you press the function button to the right, you can further adjust the brightness and color settings for both the line, surface and footwell lights. So for max brightness under Individual, you need both levels of brightness to be set to max.
Yep that’s it. I couldn’t remember exactly how to do it but you found it. What color did you need up getting on the RS5 and did you go coupe or sportback? I actually just posted a few pics of the ones I saw last night in my Instagram story.

Thanks for doing this video. I really like the current gen A4s, specifically the Prestige models. I want to look for one on the pre-owned market, but they are super difficult to find in this trim level, new or used. Any idea why the Prestige trims are so rare, relatively speaking?
Yeah there really aren’t many out there. I guess people just don’t want to spend the money to get into the Prestige trim. I notice the same thing in the S3 market as well
1) Audi has several cars in their lineup that are about the same price
2) The mid-size sedan segment has been taking a nosedive of late
3) Prestige A4s are almost never found on-lot. You usually have to special order them from Europe and that's always more expensive since the dealership has less of an incentive to sell.

It does not. It’ll just come with standard white Lighting.
JMB Only the top package have that ambient light for A4 B9 but you can find the same type of lights in the market after purchase.
The good thing about this is that you can retrofit every part to another b9 audi that doesn't have this things.
Shame it’s not the same for the 2020 models with the new MHEV 48V system as I really want the matrix LED lights but the whole car reports electric consumption and will increase fuel economy

I found out that if you want it be on during the day you need to change your external lamps from Auto to ON (not yet tested, but makes sense)
Prestige package is not just interior lights. I think radar cruise and virtual cockpit too. The $9500 covers bunch of stuff, no?
That is correct but if you want the color changing ambient light you HAVE to get the Prestige package.
I wouldn't be surprised if Audi started offering ambient lighting on lower trim levels in the future. It's already on Volkswagens and I know that it will be on the new Mercedes A Class
It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the new A3/S3 that should be coming out next year. I feel like this will have to be an option that’s finally offered in that car.
i asked the local dealer about additional montage of this feature for my A5 Sportback 2018 will see if its possible to add it post factory.

No. The one that allows you to change colors is called the ambient led interior lighting plus package.
So I saw this video because I was searching for led lights for audi a4. And I am gonna be frank guys I don’t really know anything about cars, but I thought it would be a good idea to buy led lights for my boyfriends car. In my opinion it would look good. So anyway, can somebody please tell me if I can buy led lights for my boyfriends car model and if possible should they be special in some way or not??And also what do you think of the idea, are led lights going to look good in his car ( audi a4(I really don’t even know wich year but he said is pretty new )). So anyway I think people who like cars and understand more than me are the perfect advisors so yeah. Thanks!

How does the foot lights change color? Did you custom install them? I have the 2021 a4 prestige and my footlights are only white
my 2017 A4 US can change it in the settings as he showed, no custom stuff needed.

My premium plus has all the same interior lights but they are all white and aren’t configurable, any idea if the bulbs are just locked to not produce color? Or is there a way to purchase the lights from factory? I’ve tried searching Audi parts websites and can’t find anything

On my 2020 I have the ambient lights but can't change color nor brightness 😢

what does the 'Audi Drive Select' do?
The Audi Drive Select system offers four modes for drivers: comfort (basically eco+comfort suspension), auto, dynamic (most sporty) and individual. Each mode adjusts the steering and suspension settings in a way that makes the car feel more or less aggressive and responsive, depending on what kind of driving you are doing.

Really pisses me off that they only have that on the Prestige trim because they never have Prestige A4s on the lot. You always have to order them and it tends to be harder to bargain on special orders. On top of that, the white LEDs aren't conducive to nighttime driving b/c the blue-white light makes it harder for your eyes to adjust to dark road conditions.

Audi's basically come with a steering wheel and one seat. The rest is extra.

A4 ain't in the luxury segment. It's a tad more premium that Passat. What makes VW Golf the best seller in the VAG corporation is that you actually get a pair of wheels and an engine within the standard delivery. @@TheCenterLineAuto
I agree that the A4 is not a typical "luxury car" in how we think of them. But, it actually is considered and classified as a "Small-size luxury sedan" or as a "Midl-sized luxury sedan" and sometimes a "Entry-level luxury sport sedan" if the A3 hasn't been put in that classification by whoever is rating them.
The folks who put it into those classifications are Consumer Reports (which is as objective as any ratings company gets for whatever that is worth), KBB, Black Book, and so on. And, compared to other similar sized cars, it is a step above in terms of standard features, trim quality, engine and so on. But, what makes it judged as a "luxury car" is the price more than anything and how it is presented and marketed by the manufacturer. It is all relative, just like you said...it's only a bit more "premium" (I'd say plush) than the Passat (at least the ones from 2016 and earlier (for MY 2016 and earlier anyway, because the 2017-2019 A4 is legitimately a luxury car, just not a high-end luxury car).
The size plays such a big role and the room for each passenger also had a lot to do with it. Think of it this way...the 2017 A6 (which I think most would agree is a luxury car) weighs only 600 or so pounds less than the 2017 A4 and has only a little more rear and front passenger space.
The fact the Audi is the manufacturer makes it a "luxury" car when it gets it's ratings and when it positioned against other similar cars. Unless Audi intentionally markets it as something less, it's going to get rated as a luxury car.
The Passat is typically in the mid or large size sedan grouping. So, I guess the question is if the Passat also belongs in the luxury segment or if neither one of them does, ya know?
Anyway, something to think about.

Audi is terribly bad. Poor quality, especially in non-visible places. Cheap electronics from China. Unreliable software. Terrible value for money.
