  • Some weird sci-fi show from the 60s that no one knows about has a ship I thought was worth a look into.

    Like given, well deserved as always. But I'd like to point out my dismay with the common sentiment among many fans and content creators, that the visual redesign of the Enterprise in Discovery and Strange New worlds means a refit took place. This is like to say Saavik had plastic surgery because she was played by another actress in The Search for Spock.
    Unless of course, the refit after Talos and before TOS was specifically referenced in a dialogue in "Strange New Worlds". (I haven't seen it because I'm German and don't know how to sign up for Paramount+ using a vpn. 🤷‍♂)

      I get it, and I wish there was a solid answer to this refit/visuals question. I really do. I mainly went with a refit due to its upgraded armaments vs. what we've seen in TOS.

      The SNW interpretation imo seems more realistic to becoming the TMP re fit
      just have to wait and see when SNW’s finally comes to a end.

      @@escos0410 you can't just brush aside TOS design aesthetics it is WELL ESTABLISHED CANON. This is a problem when prequels take place 60 years after a established original show steeped in Star Trek lore. If the showrunners wanted to modernized Star Trek New shows should have taken place after the TNG era.

      @@MacsLore It's literally better budget and affects, that's pretty much your answer. What it would have looked like if TOS was made today. Not in the 60s.

    Just ignore all the nonsense from "Disco" onward. Despite their protestations to the contrary, the producers just blew off pre-existing canon so they could do whatever the hell they wanted. So their "continuity" should be rightly blown off in turn. Oh, and the disc at the back of the refit Constitution-class Enterprise is actually the top of the warp core, and has nothing to do with the impulse drive.

    • @filthycasual8187
      @filthycasual8187 Před rokem

      The warp core isn't located in the saucer section. It's in the engineering section. Therefore, that dome couldn't possibly be the top of the warp core.

    • @mb2000
      @mb2000 Před 10 měsíci

      @@filthycasual8187I think they mean that the warp core runs from the bottom of the engineering hull, through the neck and ends at the dome behind the impulse engines.

    No matter what CBS wants, I don't consider Enterprise, Discovery, or any of the other new shows to be part of the prime timeline. The events just don't fit together, and that's the problem with prequels. I won't engage in the mental gymnastics required to try and fit them together.

  • @AceVendetta

    I like the theory that the tech of the discoprise was faulty, resulting in a retrograde. Once the kinks were worked out, the constitution refit was rolled out fleet wide

    Robert April was not a black man, that was established in TAS where he comes aboard the ship after being retired for several years, and Jeffrey Hunter is Pike, not that woke Strange New Worlds imposter. Discovery and SNW don't belong in the prime timeline and should have been set in alternate universes, they probably would have had a better response from fans but then the whole Star Trek going woke crap just turns me away from those shows.
    Some people like them and that's fine, I just won't be getting in your way to watch them. I'll stick with my classic Trek.

    • @nathanwilkins3039
      @nathanwilkins3039 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'm with you. The Discoprise seems so much larger than the TOS version. Also, from an engineering standpoint, it makes no sense to refit her from the 1st pilot to the Discovery version, with state of the art futuristic systems etc, then refit her back to her original look, but as the second pilot version as seen in, "Where no man has gone before"(Also the 2nd pilot wasn't mentioned in this video or even in the Eaglemoss Illustrated guide to the Enterprise), and then to the production version. I also believe that the Discoprise is an alternate Enterprise and not the prime Enterprise that we know.

    • @johnsedivec395
      @johnsedivec395 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@nathanwilkins3039 If they'd have set Discovery in the 26th or 27th century or even later, I think it would have been received better for the prime timeline; the tech, uniforms, ship's, and even the Klingon's could have been considered plausible and then their version of the Enterprise could have simply had a higher letter behind the 1701. SNW should have definitely been set in an alternate universe.

    • @nathanwilkins3039
      @nathanwilkins3039 Před 4 měsíci

      They could do that. The Discovery Enterprise is a cool design, and I could see it as a later part of the linage of Enterprises. Just leave out Michael Burnum being Spock's half sister and boy band Klingons.@@johnsedivec395
