  • The Holosun 507k, Sig Sauer Romeo Zero, and Swampfox Sentinel M are all very popular compact red dots. In this video we review the three sights side by side comparing and contrasting. While the 507k has the best shroud - the RomeoZero has the best dot - yet the SwampFox has the best button adjustment.

      The Holosun 507k, hands down. The combination of the robustness of the shroud, the battery tray, and the co-witnessing rear sight just seal the deal for me. I couldn't care less that it's a Chinese brand. If a Chinese company builds the superior product for the money I'm willing to spend, they deserve that money. If an American company wants to innovate and build a micro red dot with the features I want at a price I'm willing to pay, I'll be happy to buy one at some point.

    As far as the 32moa ring of the 507k, I find that it helps to establish the red dot to your eye quickly. So it's a plus in my book.

    • @RyanNash20
      @RyanNash20 Před 2 lety +1

      Call me crazy but I have been carrying mine using the 32 moa ring with no dot in the middle. I'm faster and just as accurate with it after trying all 3. From 5-10 yards the circle is very easy to pick up and it's not so much going on and overcrowded without the precision dot in the middle but still very easy to place shots wherever you want them.

      @instructorkuchman5488 Před 2 lety +4

      The quickly aquireable 32MOA by itself is a fast threat based redical. It's simple, move the big 32 moa circle to high center chest, pelvis or eye area of the head and go to work until its no longer a threat to you or those areound you. Try it and see for yourself.

      I actually had a hard time specifically trying to find decent reflexes with a circle dot reticle (or similar, like ACSS horseshoe), incidentally these are the ones I'm considering as they offer circle dots. It's not that I don't like a regular dot, but depends on what my setup is, if it's the only optic on an intermediate range gun such as an ar15 I'd rather a dot than circle dot. But for close range on a pistol, shotgun, I like a circle dot, for the reason you mentioned of fast acquisition. Atm I'm planning to put one on a 45* offset on my AR10 to supplement the 4-14 scope, and see how that works out, if I don't like it it'll go on a p365 once I get one. I was going to get the Sig at first, but have seen a lot of negative stuff about it, like the lens scratching easily. Torn between the swampfox and holosun now, I like that the holosun is more durable, but also seems to take up more real estate and have less glass real estate, or at least that appears to be the case without seeing them in person.

      @samuelscharfenberg483 Před rokem +1

      That’s what I came to say. You can plink steel at 75 yards even with a compact pistol and the circle helps for quicker acquisition.

    I own all the optics listed from Holosun, Sig and Swampfox that you reviewed and I'm a Holosun fan 100x over! I have replaced the majority of pistol, PCC and AR/AK optics with Holosun products. I personally love the circle of death aka 32 MOA for fast target acquisition and the 2 moa dot for precision longer range shots.

    Excellent review! You covered the pros and cons to all three. I have several Swampfox optics (Kingslayer, Liberty and justice)sights and have been very pleased with them. On January 25 2022 we picked up a sentinel for the Kimber R7 mako and it has not disappointed. I am curious how long the battery will last and once I remove the optic I will need to sight it in again. I watched your review and decided to try the Holosun 407K X2 6 moa green on my Sig X Macro slide. I love the idea of not having to remove the optic to change the battery and it gives me an opportunity to see what Holosun optics are like. Thank you for your thorough review!

    Holosun 507K. I have 3; on my G43X MOS, G48 MOS, and S&W 9EZ Performance Center. Personally love the circle dot reticle option; helps me pick up the "dot" faster. As I get better at draw and acquisition, I may transition to just the dot. Having the option is nice.

    I run a 507C. 2moa dot combined with 32moa circle. The big circle makes it very easy to find your dot if you happen to lose it and just quick shooting at very close range. The 2moa dot provides good accuracy even out to 50yards on my FNX-45 tactical.
    The 507c is nice because it has that solar panel on the top and doesn't run on battery if you have some sunlight.

      I bought that from the gun shop when I purchased my pistol and asked them to put it on. They had such a hard time putting it on I felt bad for them. Then I got home and was like why can I see the battery underneath of it while im looking at it on my pistol( SA Hellcat). It wasnt all the way down and it looked awful. I hated that it never came on when I presented it at the range the next day. I took it off and took it back. I felt bad because the guys at the shop like got a dremel and cut the screws down for me and everything. I just hated it. They took it back gave me mymoney back so i bought a couple boxes of ammo and a owb holster for it while I was there.
      I ordered the sentinel and will be putting the shroud on it.

      Not at all man. For practical accuracy I can put headbox shots in at 25 yards with an 8 moa dot . At 50 yards there is no difference due to how imprecise pistol shooting is. 2 moa is a lie about precision - near no one can exploit it - it can be done - but not by me or most.

    Lo and behold, I just received and mounted my HS407K on my Sig P322. Not unobtanium, got it from Brownells (The Holosun, not the P322). For me, the side access battery tray was a must for mounting to an aluminum slide. Don't want to go anywhere near risking stripping those threads with a battery change. I agree that 6MOA is the best dot size for a pistol.

    Holosun 407 k for me. I also have a Romeo O siting in a drawer somewhere. I got it with my 365 XL when I bought it carried it for about 9 months, 2 batteries a scratched lens and several zeroing in sessions I said enough. I went with the 407 k ,torqued it to recommend specs and when I went to the range to zero it, it was spot on. I have only changed the battery once because I change them routinely every 6 months especially on My EDC's.

    Great comparison video. I started with the Swampfox on my 365XL but replaced it with the Holosun. No regrets. However, I also own a S&W M&P 9 2.0 Performance Center Shield with 4" barrel which comes equipped with a Crimson Trace optic. I haven't swapped it out (yet) but it is auto-adjust only. While it is satisfactory indoors and outdoors on overcast days, it suffers from a badly washed out dot in bright, sunny conditions. I am interested in the Hellcat RDP which comes with the HEX Wasp, also an auto-adjust only optic. I suspect it also will have a washed out dot in bright, sunny conditions. If you would review these two optics (and pistols too) and compare those optics with the three from this video, it would be appreciated.

      Auto adjust doesn't work properly, even on $500 Trijicon RMR sights. I don't know if they set the brightness low to boost battery life, but it doesn't matter if it takes 5 seconds to find the too dim dot on a well lit target.

    I got a deal on a Romeo Pro with a Foxtrot light for my Echelon. The pair was well under $200 shipped. The Romeo Pro has a metal frame you can use if you fear damaging the unit. The brightness button is inconvenient, but there is a function that allows you to hold it down for 5 seconds and then just tap the frame to choose among 8 brightness settings. Having to take it off to change the battery is a bit of a hassle, but they do last 20,000 hours. The performance is absolutely spectacular, and I prefer it to all of the others in the test.

Not only do you not have to re-zero, but not having to remove the sight means you don't have to risk stripping the screws, which is easy to do --- especially if you used a bit too much lock-tite the last time you installed them. I don't have the Swampfox but have numerous Holosuns on multiple weapons and like the durability , reticles and features. One point to consider is that those of us with astigmatism do not play well with red dots. Although I do have a 407A3 in red...the cluster of "dots" is unusable for me in any scenario where accuracy is required. By contrast I have a 507K with green circle dot reticle and the 32mm ring and green color are very usable. Even the 2moa green dot is more definitive with my astigmatism than the equal size red dot. Not sure why...but the green 507K reticle works well for me. In addition, the Holosun circle dot reticle...for me ...is quicker to pick up on a pistol than a singe dot. Especially in a busy or highly contrasted background. So is the ACSS reticle found on the larger 507C Holosuns when the slide is cut for the larger 507C footprint. Any sight that requires removal from the slide to change the battery is a deal breaker for me.
