Thanks for the helpful video! I started soap making backwards, going straight for Cold Process because I thought that was how "real" soap "should" be made. But I now realize that's a silly mindset to have. Cold Process is great, but there's nothing wrong with Melt and Pour! I'm excited to have an easier and safer method under my belt for times when I want to make pretty soap but I really don't feel like going the extra mile.

Well, I'm happy to report that my soaps were a huge success. I've made several batches with all kinds of beautiful essential oils, in many different moulds, for the family as well as my coworkers, and everybody loved them! I must have made close to 50 soaps, and have enjoyed my new hobby immensely. Once again, many thanks for your tutorials which were instrumental in the success of my endeavor.
One of my best friends and I bought a melt and pour kit from Michael's, and we were working in such small quantities to try and do layers that we ended up overheating the soap and it hardened SO FAST! We had no idea what we did wrong until I watched this just now!! SO helpful!!! We'll be sure to melt more soap down at a time so it doesn't overheat so quickly next time! xD The quality of the soap probably also makes a huge difference, since Michael's soap isn't on par with Bramble Berry!! It would be SO COOL if you guys one day worked with Michael's to get some QUALITY melt and pour on their shelves!!!

Agreed. Sad when I see ppl making beautiful soap with a low quality soap base that has detergents and sulphates in it! That stuff dries out my skin. If ur gonna do MP, go for the higher quality soap bases out there. And Bramble Berry sells it.😊
Thank you! I am a beginner and found a recipe on the net for goats milk soap. It never said how much to heat the base so of course it got overheated. Thank you so much for the explanation of the results of overheating. It's in my block mold right now and I have hopes it will set up right and not flake into pieces when used but time will tell.

I need to purchase supplies for this since I’m taking a mold making and casting class in college and our current project is a plaster mold, and resin doesn’t like plaster so we can basically only make casts with melt/pour soap or candle wax. So now I need to learn all about this before my next class in 2 days aaaah hopefully it goes well for me!

That shrink wrap is breathable, so it does attract moisture even after wrapping it with that food wrap. Especially in hot and humid climates. I've tried it and then decided to buy a thicker plastic to wrap it.

I had to replace the food/shrink wrap (which is made of the same material) because my soaps (several batches) were all wet on the inside (glycerine is a by-product of the handmade soap). Replaced it with plastic sheets that were non-toxic obviously, and non-breathable. You can experiment with all kinds of wrapping sheets. Go with whatever works best for you and your climate.
Great video! I want to learn to do this because I don’t think messing with lye is a good idea for me. I’m sensitive to so many chemicals. 😥 I want to make my mother some non-irritant soap because she has skin problems when using a lot of soap. Olive oil or oatmeal looks good! I love pastels! 😊

I am getting conflicting information about dried flowers added to melt and pour. They say you shouldn’t add dried flowers to the melt and pour because it will mold. Any help with this would be great, thank you.

Hello! I have a question. I’ve been watching a LOT of soap making tutorials recently and have been learning about the science and steps to cold processed soaps. While it seems fun and rewarding, I can’t help but wonder why someone would go through all that work, money, and the safety risks when they could just use melt & pour bases. What are the benefits to cold processed versus M&P? (Anyone can answer). Thank you for making this video!
If you make your own soap, you can customize the quality of the soap, more or less lather, more moisturizing depending on what oil or combination of oils you use to make the soap. Of course you can follow recipes for this as well, but advanced soap makers will use their own favorite formulas. The three standard are palm oil (some people don't really like this option for environmental reasons) olive oil, and coconut oil, but almond oil and several others are also options. It is also more cost effective when you buy bulk amounts of lye and oils instead of buying something pre-made (even if the video says it cost effective to buy melt and pour) And even more cost effective when you buy oil from a soap making company where the oils are NOT food grade. Why pay more for something you are obviously not going to eat? haha! The last point is that there is something fun being the science of creating your own soap, it feels almost more fulfilling to make it from scratch and to be able to handle your materials safely. Of course it takes more work I hope this helped

Found out about your company through Royalty Soaps, and found you have YT tutorials. All these soap videos is making me want to get into it too as a hobby, make gifts for my family type of thing. I would LOVE to try cold process but it seems like just about anything that you can do with cold process you can also do with this melt and pour, considering glycerin is the only difference between the two, really. And I suppose with cold, you can have different mixes of different oils/butters. So here's my questions. Which is CHEAPER to make, sans equipment?? Say I wanna do cupcake soaps exclusively. How much would it cost to do a batch (12) as cold process vs a melt and pour??? Would I have to get a mold with the icing portion built into it for the melt and pour, or is there a way to make "icing" the way you can make with cold process?? How much melt and pour would it take, approximately? Also, I have Anosmia. Will that affect my ability to use scents? I'm thinking I'll probably need a test sniffer (hello kids, lol). Does Brambleberry offer scent samplers so we know what the scents smell like before we buy them for use??
Very important to mention to add the essential oil(I don't know about fragrance...two different things) when the soap is at a temperature that will not have a negative effect on the 'fragrance'. Too hot will ruin the soap.
Melt and pour soap should not get to a temperature hot enough to negatively impact your final scent, but generally we recommend adding it around 130 degrees.

hi .. i use clays only .. so when i have to add clay to the soap i first mix it with a tblspoon of glycerin .. make a slurry paste then add to the soap .. im i doing right ? or i should use anything else instead of glycerin???? thanks in advance fir this lovely video.

I bought plain unscented soap from the supermarket, tried melting the soap, it doesn’t melt! What did i do wrong? I shredded the soap and put it in a bowl and then put it above boiling water and it didn’t work. I also put a bit of water in the soap to see if that would do anything and it didn’t. Please help.
It sounds like you may be trying to make rebatch soap. For rebatch we like to place a saucepan on the stove set to low. You can also use a slow cooker on high. Add the rebatch/shredded soap and a few teaspoons of distilled water. Keep extra water nearby and add as needed. Stir until the soap is soft and spoon into a mold.

I just started making melt and pour soap. Never had an issue, but just recently my last batch or two of soap came out very rubbery?!, Almost bendable. I cut the pieces of soap evently before melting in microwave. Did I overheat it in microwave or reheat too many times? Heated in 20 to 25 secs intervals. I used 16 oz melt and pour buttermilk base, 1 tsp essential oils, mica powder, and 1 1/2 tsp ground oatmeal. Could the melt and pour base have gone bad? Any help is appreciated.
The leading cause for a rubbery melt and pour soap is overheating. A little too much heat can make your melt and pour base too hot, or burn it and make it rubbery in texture.
Hi, does the melt and pour soap still solidify if i keep it molten for a couple of hours (on low temp.)? Or does it need to solidify as soon as possible?
@@sl4983 yeah, i was suspecting this. The reason i want to keep it this warm for so long is because i want to add hemp. Just adding hemp is also good but you don't really get the active cbd into the soap. I think it's best i add some hemp for the scrub and add cbd crystals for the active cbd. This way the soap can solidify like normal, it's just going to be a little more expensive because of the cbd crystals.
Hi Anne-Marie, I love your video. I am so glad I found your video as I am about to add soaps to my candles and diffuser range. I want to make a large batch using double boiler method. Can I use my large metal jug to melt or should I use a heat resistant plastic jug? Also I have plastic soap moulds which are a version of wax melts moulds. Can I use those plastic moulds or do I have to get silicon ones? Thank you so very much. 🙏
I have prepared a batch of melt & pour soaps with clear glycerin soap base. Additionally added Aloe vera and holy basil leaves extract, Almond oil and essential oils. After one week its sides shrinked, as if someone squeezed it. Why is this happening? [Soap base used is not BrambleBerry]
We generally recommend not storing melt and pour in the fridge or freezer for long periods of time. Extremely cold temperatures can cause the soap to become brittle.

I make cold process soaps for over 7 years now :) I remember my first soaps were melt and pour . they so easy to make.

The shrink wrap does, or the saran wrap? Since you used both in the same statement.

They won't get moldy due to the higher pH of the soap base but they will turn brown.

I would LOVE to try cold process but it seems like just about anything that you can do with cold process you can also do with this melt and pour, considering glycerin is the only difference between the two, really. And I suppose with cold, you can have different mixes of different oils/butters.
So here's my questions. Which is CHEAPER to make, sans equipment?? Say I wanna do cupcake soaps exclusively. How much would it cost to do a batch (12) as cold process vs a melt and pour??? Would I have to get a mold with the icing portion built into it for the melt and pour, or is there a way to make "icing" the way you can make with cold process?? How much melt and pour would it take, approximately? Also, I have Anosmia. Will that affect my ability to use scents? I'm thinking I'll probably need a test sniffer (hello kids, lol). Does Brambleberry offer scent samplers so we know what the scents smell like before we buy them for use??

I’ve seen some comments in other videos where people say that using dry botanicals in melt and pour will cause turn moldy. Is this true?
This is true, but if you cover the botanicals with a very thin layer of melt and pour then it should stay lovely for quite a while.
Very important to mention to add the essential oil(I don't know about fragrance...two different things) when the soap is at a temperature that will not have a negative effect on the 'fragrance'. Too hot will ruin the soap.
Melt and pour soap should not get to a temperature hot enough to negatively impact your final scent, but generally we recommend adding it around 130 degrees.

We think Mica powders are the most fun option and the easiest to add!

hi .. i use clays only .. so when i have to add clay to the soap i first mix it with a tblspoon of glycerin .. make a slurry paste then add to the soap .. im i doing right ? or i should use anything else instead of glycerin????

I observe the soaps weight is shrinking (glycerin or goatmilk) even it was left enough hours to cure..

When the melt and pour soap is hard, we suggest completely wrapping it up in plastic wrap to prevent it from sweating or shrinking.

I bought plain unscented soap from the supermarket, tried melting the soap, it doesn’t melt! What did i do wrong? I shredded the soap and put it in a bowl and then put it above boiling water and it didn’t work. I also put a bit of water in the soap to see if that would do anything and it didn’t. Please help.
It sounds like you may be trying to make rebatch soap. For rebatch we like to place a saucepan on the stove set to low. You can also use a slow cooker on high. Add the rebatch/shredded soap and a few teaspoons of distilled water. Keep extra water nearby and add as needed. Stir until the soap is soft and spoon into a mold.

I just started making melt and pour soap. Never had an issue, but just recently my last batch or two of soap came out very rubbery?!, Almost bendable. I cut the pieces of soap evently before melting in microwave. Did I overheat it in microwave or reheat too many times? Heated in 20 to 25 secs intervals. I used 16 oz melt and pour buttermilk base, 1 tsp essential oils, mica powder, and 1 1/2 tsp ground oatmeal. Could the melt and pour base have gone bad? Any help is appreciated.
The leading cause for a rubbery melt and pour soap is overheating. A little too much heat can make your melt and pour base too hot, or burn it and make it rubbery in texture.

Hi, does the melt and pour soap still solidify if i keep it molten for a couple of hours (on low temp.)? Or does it need to solidify as soon as possible?

The reason i want to keep it this warm for so long is because i want to add hemp. Just adding hemp is also good but you don't really get the active cbd into the soap.
I think it's best i add some hemp for the scrub and add cbd crystals for the active cbd. This way the soap can solidify like normal, it's just going to be a little more expensive because of the cbd crystals.

Can I use my large metal jug to melt or should I use a heat resistant plastic jug? Also I have plastic soap moulds which are a version of wax melts moulds. I have prepared a batch of melt & pour soaps with clear glycerin soap base. Additionally added Aloe vera and holy basil leaves extract, Almond oil and essential oils. After one week its sides shrinked, as if someone squeezed it. Why is this happening? [Soap base used is not BrambleBerry]

Do you recommend refrigerating at all, after pouring into soap mold?
We generally recommend not storing melt and pour in the fridge or freezer for long periods of time. Extremely cold temperatures can cause the soap to become brittle.
